God love her. Such style, class, and what a voice! I love absolutely everything she's ever recorded, as I'm sure you all do. Rest In Peace, our Dusty. We have your legacy. We have your voice. We still have you.
My eyes drops tears silently ... I miss you ... I miss your hug... I close my eyes and I feel you next to me, to look at you in the eyes and to tell you how much I love you ... To touch you ...and you whisper to me: "Give me a hug...." and I to lose myself in your arms ...
Such a wonderful voice, and one brave and beautiful lady. When she went to South Africa on tour, at the time it was forbidden by the government for a white person to perform before a black audience. Well, she promptly gave a concert to a mixed audience in defiance of that law. The government promptly deported her back to England, threw her out of the country. She knew what it was like to be the subject of blind hate and discrimination and tried her best to do something about it in the only way she knew how. One very brave and remarkable lady. RIP Dusty.
Thank you for this share Bruce Edward. I've always loved everything Dusty her voice. I was thrilled when the Pet Sop Boys introduced her to a younger Generation, including Dusty in their hit. "What Have I Done To Deserve This" Pet Shop Boys. She was fabulous! As Always.! She as brilliant inside as she was beautiful and talented outside. Kudos Bruce! Great post!
We sometimes lose sight of the great people of the 20th and 21st century and then come back to realize what a great singer and vocalist Dusty truly was. I was younger when she was popular, yet I and many others find ourselves enjoying her music and voice even more today. Thank you Dusty.
Dusty has a very powerful voice. There are singers of today with talented and powerful voices. The problem is today's songs are terrible and they don't allow talented singers to display their voices. Watching talent shows such as American idol or the X-Factor contestants sing older songs like this and for the most part do very well but when they win or get a record deal they resort to hip hop, rap, or some other kind of mumbo jumbo junk.
Joe G That is a spot on of todays display, and that is because they rely on the music of yesterday because it was produced with pure talent as the anchor. No smoke and mirrors or auto tune / studio wizardry, or 20 dancers distracting you from what you paid to see. Go and see a Gino Vannelli concert TODAY and you see the real deal....Pure talent. I just wished I could have been fortunate enough to see Dusty in concert live, she was and will always be one of the greatest female vocalists of out time, right there with Dionne, Barbra, and Diana.
+Joe G I pretty much agree with you. Lady Gaga, I guess, is sort of an exception in that she's lately been recording old standards with Tony Bennett. And, of course, she's classically trained. When she did that "Sound of Music" tribute last year, which was magnificent, I got the feeling that type of music is actually where her heart is, not the music that made her famous. But she is only able to sing those songs now because she's already established herself in the current music world and has earned the right (and power) to sing whatever she wants.
#2 in 1967 Even back then, music was still great. We were lucky to have singers like Dusty!!!! No copycats here. Just Raw talent!!!!! Love & Miss You!!!!
A truly great British Singer. She had a beautiful voice, full, deep and that gave meaning to every song she sang. Too bad she is no longer with us and most of today's singers do not hold a candle against her.
shes on grade 5 cos to put in terms you can understand shes the queen,no 1, awsome. unbeatable, the best there was or will be. bluntly shes the best. nuff said.........
what a woman...perfection...there will never be another...no one can ever come close...this generation has miley cyrus and lady ga ga...they just have no idea...love you and miss you dusty....
Heard this on Mad Men, and immediately brought back memories of my mum and dad dancing to it - they've both been dead 20 years, instant and very unexpected sob. Music eh?
...to which she bought the rights to, and her manager wrote the words..the only thing in common with the "original" is the melody, which is what Dusty fell in love with. She actually died a very wealthy woman because she wisely bought up music rights and built a huge catalog which she soild several years before her death..at least she needn't worry about money..I Love Dusty!
Takes me back to my early teenage years in England.. She had a voice in a million. Still gives me the chills. Today she would be a voice for the LBGT community. Rest in Peace our Dusty.
Song brings tears to my eyes. My first love moved to Canada when I was 15..this song came out right before he left. What great memories it brings back, we were reunited 40 years later. Thanks Dusty for the great songs you left behind RIP

The irony is that Dusty gave so much to so many through the songs she sang, but never found what she was really looking for in her own life. when she was on stage though that was an escape from her own world, i'm glad she shared it with us.
THIS SONG DONE BY DUSTY REALLY HELPED PUT PINO DONAGGIO SONG AND HIM ON THE ON THE MAP , DUSTY AND HER PEOPLE GAVE IT THE THE POWER IT DESERVED,, IT HAD TO MAKE HIM VERY PROUD AS A WRITER !....////
This is not the original version, the original one belongs to the italian singer named Pino Donagio, and the name of the song is "io que non vivo senza te"

Beutiful Dusty was and is still one of my favorite singers despite the fact she is no longer with us. She had an outstanding voice and sang like an Angel. All her songs are full of feeling and are very deep too. Nice to hear and enjoy.
+Patrizia F. Excuse me, but I beg to differ: The music was written by Ivor Raymonde, british musician, songwriter and arranger - the lyrics by Michael Hawker. The song became the first hit in Dusty's solo career, and peaked at #4 in the UK singles chart in January 1964.
ollarik Oh no ollarik...this is not true. just do a search on Wikipedia, and it explains everything. The singer Dusty Springfield was present at the Sanremo festival in 1965 where he heard this song. I inform you that in Sanremo you can bring only new songs. When he heard this song, Dusty Springfield, she decides to make her his, and to record it once back in London. In its English version, entitled You Do not Have to Say You Love Me, the song goes around the world entering into the sales charts in many countries. The British singer claims to have it recorded in the stairwell because it sounded better. But the authors are Pino Donaggio and Vito Pallavicini. Pino Donaggio is a great author of soundtracks. The English lyrics I think it's Dusty same.
I always liked Dusty and still like her now. She had such a magnificent voice she makes one feel ser really means what she sings. Most of her songs get me because of that. A beautiful lady very feminine who knew how to dress and to do her hair and had a remarkable and outstanding voice. Grand!!!
On this day in 1966 {May 15th} "You Don't Have To You Love Me" by Dusty Springfield entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart at position #76; and on July 10th it peaked at #4 {for 1 week} and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100... It also reached #4 in Canada and Ireland... Between 1964 and 1970 she had eighteen records make the Top 100; with three making the Top 10, the other two were "Wishin' and Hopin'" {#6 in 1964} and "Son-of-A-Preacher Man" {#10 in 1969}... In 1987 she recorded "What Have I Done To Deserve This" with the Pet Shop Boys; and it peaked at #2 in both the U.S. and U.K. Ms. Springfield, born Mary Isobel Catherine Bernadette O'Brien, passed away on March 2nd, 1999 at the young age of 59... May she R.I.P.
Fabulous Dysty Springfield is still one of my favorite singers despite the fact she is no longer in this World. But she left us her records which were uploaded and we can still enjoy them because of that.
@Crazycatperson66 Well, see, that would all depend to what of the 60s and 70s you listen. ;) Just kidding! Why fall over me on this? It's the other dude who first brought up your generation. I was simply explaining in general 15 year olds have no taste because they are just 15. They haven't had the time to develop taste. Of course there are always exceptions to any rule. I happen to know two now 18 year olds who are both awesome musicians themselves. Check out Sarah Jarosz and Sierra Hull.
@skontch1 Ah well, I get your frustration over that but let's face it...what 15 year old does have taste in anything?;) Popular media spreading the myth that 15 year olds are the only demographic of "importance" is of course not helping. btw speaking of this generations real musicians..have you heard of Brandi Carlile?
I was in 11th Grade when this Dusty Springfield song was released. What a lucky young man I was to live in a time of great music like this.
I was in 7th grade and couldn’t make up my mind between Dusty or Petula Clark! 😮I think Dusty won!
I close my eyes and I feel you next to me,
to look at you in the eyes
and to tell you how much I love you ...
To touch you ...and you whisper to me:
"Give me a hug...."
and I to lose myself in your arms ...
Incredible. What a goddess, a diva, an immortal songstress of the soul!
What a beautiful voice, and a beautiful girl. There are no words to describe how she sang this song. "Timeless perfection." Dusty...never forgotten!
I just got into this song this year. This is great. I play it when I Dj. She is great.
Oh Dusty you put all the modern day half naked diva's to shame .... you could sing anything in any genre and make it sound great
I really laughed at your comment because it was so true! Go Dusty!

Bruce Edward Thanks for this story. I don't know anything about her, just know the song. I'm glad when people post interesting info!
I didn't know that. Great woman!

MAD MEN (season 5 ep. 1) brought me here:D
A truly great British Singer. She had a beautiful voice, full, deep and that gave meaning to every song she sang. Too bad she is no longer with us and most of today's singers do not hold a candle against her.

Elvis version is my 2nd choice!
Her tempo, interpretation and hand and foot work is legendary.
as an English born dude...this takes me back to the great times in England during the 1960's...
It was an anthem...
+Vincent Knattress That looked to be a very good time to grow up. Lots of creativity, youth and questioning.
Gotta say, this song sounds a lot better than the mush we hear on the radio, and I'm 18!
Thank-you for saying that...18 years young and you appreciate melody & classy style...

Beatiful English version from the italian song Io che non vivo senza te, by Pino Donaggio. Thank you Pino, thank you Dusty.
I always feel better on listening to one of the best female singers in our generation (I hope she is happy in the afterlife) RIP Dusty
Good comment, Dusty never did any wrong in my eyes, I still have her pictures around my house.
músic of Pino Donaggio, of Veneza, hit parade in Brazil 1963.

Beautiful song and beatifully sang by Dusty.
To me, her use of gestures adds a lot over and above her admirable vocal delivery.
Great Song Great Voice
THANKS FOR POSTING
MEMORIES ARE GREAT
The MOST soulful British female vocalist ever. Underrated in her time - we never knew just how good she was till we lost her.
When I said I needed you
You said you would always stay
It wasn't me who changed but you
And now you've gone away
Don't you see
That now you've gone
And I'm left here on my own
That I have to follow you
And beg you to come home?
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me
I can't help but love you
But believe me
I'll never tie you down
Left alone with just a memory
Life seems dead and so unreal
All that's left is loneliness
There's nothing left to feel
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me
You don't have to say you love me
Just be close at hand
You don't have to stay forever
I will understand
Believe me, believe me, believe me
THX !
Thankyou for this song with the beautiful Dusty.Great musicians backing the song .Wonderful to listen to.Real music.Cheers, John.

Dr. Who brought me here. Matt smith loves Dusty. :))
A song from the italian Pino Donnagio, he sang at the Festival San Remo at the 60´s and become a big sucess.
One of the few who dared to sing live in those days. Love her.
She is exceptionally beautiful here....
My moms favorite song...the 60s good times
I agree with you
This is Dusty's song...iconic!
SO TRUE.
such a fabulous voice and talent!
A beautiful song. Love this version.
I like both versions. The Dusty Springfield version is more polished, the Lesley Gore one more raw and aggressive.
Magic song,love

Yeah, they are beautiful strings, and I just love strings in music. I just wish they made this kind of music today.
I do too, Larry. I do too.
