🔖 Test sign:
Prints must be reprinted if a mistake is made in both small and large sizes. So, after dozens of tests on A4 paper, the final work must be signed.
✏️ Reasons to use a pencil:
I mostly use pencil. This is because ink components such as ballpoint pens fade quickly, whereas pencils whose main component is carbon do not fade even after decades. If signing in pencil, the print media itself must be pencil-capable. Usually, if you sign the front side, you sign on matte fine art paper, not on glossy photo paper, etc. Oil-based markers and name pens are never recommended.
⚔️ Sharpen your pencil like a sword:
The pencil to be signed must be well-polished, like the sword of a general going into battle. If it is cut too thin, it is easy to break, and if it is cut too thick, the writing becomes dull.
🖼️ The position of the sign:
Write the signature on the back or bottom right of the work and it doesn't matter in English or Korean. However, if the work is to be exhibited overseas, it would be better to write it in English. Also, if you are going to work on a picture frame, consider the location of the picture frame and have a suitable margin. When printing this part, it is good to think about frame margins and sign margins before printing.
💡Sine format:
Some people write the year of production or the title after their name, but there is no set format and it is the artist's freedom. It's cool to have a signature on the front of the work, but there are people who don't like it, right? Also, when signing on the back side, there may be marks or smudges, so some people do not sign at all and attach a separate guarantee.
☝️Edition notation:
In the case of print and photo works, there is an edition. If it is one of the five selected photos, you can mark it as 1/5 like this. The location of the edition is usually indicated on the lower left or right side.
👩‍🎨 Signature originality:
If you sign beautifully, it's cool in itself. An artist's unique signature becomes more valuable than a luxury item when it becomes famous later. Practice your own unique sign.
