I'm new to Tunisian (though not to crochet) what a great demo of the knit stitch for ribbing. I can see how this would work on doing a ribbed stretchy brim and then crochet from the bottom up to complete a hat as you suggested. As always, your tutorials are clear and very detailed and you DON'T DO the HIGH SPEED crochet. Thanks Kim, 5 stars !!
Thank you for this video. I'm new to tunisian crochet and so many other tutorials would get so wordy and I'd get lost and frustrated. Your are to the point clear and short enough to rewatch without having to fast forward to the spots I came to learn. And for that - you got a new subscriber & thumbs up.
Wow Kim this is fantastic I know I am new but I tried a row of purl and a row of knitting to make a stretchy fabric and it didn't seam very stretchy. Then I tried a purl, knit stitch combination and that didn't work very well. This is fantastic. Tunisian with your videos is fantastic. I wish you would make a regular two color video for beginners. I like your videos and yes your voice is soothing only problem is I could fall asleep listening to it once when going to college many years ago I tried listening to recordings to learn while sleeping maybe I could try with your videos . Lol
Thank you Kim! I really like this, I have to find the double ended hooks! I have a hard time finding the afghan hooks! Perhaps, I will have to order them online!
You can also just use cable hooks and attach a hook on each end of cable. Slide your work off one hook, across the cable and begin with the other hook. I do this because I don't have double ended hooks
Kim, I just finished making the tunisian ribbing and it came out beautiful. But I can't find a pattern for a tunisian womens hat that I can use it on. Do you have a pattern or do you know where I can find one? Thanks for the great video. KC
Hi...thanks so much for this video! Can you please help me...I started making a regular crochet poncho with sleeves and was wondering how can I add this Tunisian knit stitch to the neck and the sleeves as my ribbing? How do I go from a crochet project to a Tunisian stitch? Any suggestions will be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!!
You can add it with a slip stitch to the bottom of the beanie after you get to that side. Basically, you just pull up the last loop in the stitch and turn, then start closing your stitching immediately. You'll want to practice a little to see whether you want to skip one or two stitches for each row of ribbing. You could also start with the ribbing and work the beanie from bottom to the top instead of top to bottom.
Is there a tip to making this rib so it doesn't stretch out? I made it as a rib on a hat. It was really stretchy at first but a few rows into the body of the hat and it's stretched out 3 inches. i think working the body stretched it.
Hi Kim, Thanks for making this video. I don't tunisian crochet as much as I'd like to and I've never thought to do a double-ended ribbing method like this. I like the look though for a ribbing on a hat though. Question: since you are using two separate colors in the ribbing part, is it possible to only use 1 color for the part of the hat to the top? Or, do I need to stick with two colors and let's say, do TKS all the way to the top of the hat? I hope my question makes sense. Thanks.
I use two separate colors in the video so you can see the use of the different side of the work. Using the same color works even better and I have a hat pattern on my website called Mens Favorite Beanie which uses it as an all-over repeat. Enjoy!
Thank you for making the tutorial. But I have a question. Isn't this just exactly the same as doing standard reversible Tunisian -- except that you are doing a knit stitch, instead of the usual TSS? The procedure seems to be exactly the same as for reversible Tunisian. Please correct me if I am wrong. Thank you.
I have never heard the term "reversible Tunisian" except when making a fabric that is reversible. If you mean cro-hook, double-ended Tunisian, crochenit, croknit, or any of the other names given to double-ended Tunisian, then yes. Double-ended Tunisian does indeed make a reversible fabric in Tunisian, so that could be where you heard it. Since I've never heard that term for the technique, I can't be positive.
Please check out my other videos on RUclips. I have over four hours. I hope to make even more this year. I also have free patterns available: crochetkim.com/freepatterns/tunisian-crochet-its-time-to-learn/

As usual a great video. I love the feel of this and am going to use it to make a baby blanket. I think it will also make a nice warm scarf. Thanks Kim
Thank you for this I've finally managed to get it right & I've made a beautiful soft scarf for my granddaughter. She loves it.
This is a great video and very clear. Thank you!

Is this the same on the back as it is on the front? I attempted it and it ended up bing ribbed on both sides
