Older streamers weren't feeling the con as much because in the past twitch went all out for comping the fees for flights, hotels, etc for a lot of higher end and the mid sized creators(most of otv). Looks like they focused more on cost cutting this year
Dude twitch is raking tons of money from sponsors from this big companies they even now a got sponsored by chevron and they can’t afford to pay partnered streamers who work for tho platform before twitch got acquired by Amazon pretty sure they could afford giving tons of frees shit to their partnered streamers
They are all millionaires. If their issue with the convention was that they didn't get free flights and hotels that is just pathetic. Twitch con sucked for many reasons and none of them have anything to do with that.
It's not about costs, but the fact you feel like you're surrounded by children. Most of them are older, and there are growing generational gaps between them and newer creators. Plus, they aren't as energetic and enthusiastic as they used to be.
I can understand Twtich not being able to comp a lot of the flights, hotels, and other misc fees for the (big) streamers because they have a lot more streamers both affiliates and partners than they did from back in the day. When being partnered was something special and seen less often than it is now, it was easier and much cheaper to comp the payments the individual was paying out of pocket.
@@revenger211 I see this all the time at my local anime convention. I've been going to my home convention since 2008. 16 years... I've seen people come and go. It's grown a lot and it's even more expensive than what it once was. It's still held in the same spot since like ~2004. I always tell myself it might be my last year. But honestly, I don't go to my home convention for the content, but I go for the friends. But even my friends who go as attendees aren't even at the convention itself anymore but nearby areas, hotels, parks. Granted, I don't buy a pass anymore but rather choose to staff since the team I volunteer with have become good friends of mine. If they continue, then I continue. At least at my home convention, it's not only the attendees that change and grow and evolve. The convention itself was evolving. The city employees run the center and have a say in how our convention should do things. Yes, there are negotiations. But our group cannot accommodate everything they ask for and they cannot accommodate everything we ask for. I'm sure it's the same for Twitch-TwitchCon-San Diego Convention Center-San Diego city employees. Things the city does, the attendees won't like either. Twitch moved it to Las Vegas last year because they wanted to make the attendees happy and hoping it cut costs and granting a bigger center.
I went this year just as a viewer and feel like i didnt get my money's worth but since i live 30 minutes away from the convention i decided to go. I dont think i will ever go again.
I haven't been to a single TwitchCon at all. I've wanted to go since meeting so many new online friends in a Covid and post-Covid era. But I always saw TwitchCon as a networking event which is why I never really showed interest when it first started and had extreme ease of going back in 2018 when it was in my area. Now, I hear everyone going to TwitchCon.
The real sad truth is nobody is going just because scarra went … they went for other reasons and met him. So there is no incentive for twitch to do really anything for him….but hey they do it for the fans amirite
its crazy to me how people in the comment section think just because you are in a place of having money you shouldnt complain about spending money. I think it shows that you value money cause you grew up with none. and at the same time i went to twitchcon but the event wasnt so great it was the people i went to see that was great i still think its crazy to charge people to see each other at least for as much as they are charging.
It's like yeah they're rich, but they can also complain about things being unfair. A guy could be rich and still complain for example, their Bugatti's headlights cost value of a new car (true story, 164k). That's a 100% value complaint. Scarra is basically saying Twitch Con is charging more for less, which is also a fair complaint if he's spending his time to attend.
it looks more and more like one of those cooperate conventions. yah know like a convention for middle managers kinda thing. except it also has a bunch of 18 year olds tweaking out for clout. like a bunch of people selling their souls in a world that increasing devalues genuine human experience, and twitch con is an event for the overlords to explain to you the best way to sing and dance for money.
Apparently the whole event was sponsored by Chevron, and a lot of the bigger stage events all had big sections carved out for a lot of sponsor businesses. So yeah the vibe this year felt very corporatey. All this paired with Kick streamers harassing a lot of the other streamers it’s become a big mess
No partner discount is telling of the economic plan of Twitch. They fired 500 people earlier in the year because their business predictions were not met, and looks like they're cutting losses when it comes to their events... is this necessarily the right business move? Only time will tell. But if Scarra, a long time partner of Twitch, does not feel the value of paying full price for these events, it should give everyone pause to consider the why. I've been to 2 Twitchcons. One in 2018 San Jose and the other in 2022 San Diego and I will say, if you're going purely solo, the event is okay... oh 2022 Twitchcon... remember the foam pit that broke people's backs? To think I was in line for that and stepped away from it last minute because it was taking too long is the only thing I find memorable about that event. 2018 San Jose... the only thing memorable was everyone commiserating together under the hot sun for standing 5 hours in line to get their badges for the convention. $149 for a one day ticket is not worth the price. You'd probably have a better time at Anime expo, Comic con then Twitchcon (and better yet, at HALF the price).
