so many gems i didn't cover!
this month has been crazy busy but lol i finally got around to editing something. ngl i was quite demotivated from editing because of the mic issues ... i tried to de-noise and stuff as much as possible but i think it ended up sounding a bit gross ehh whatever
hope u enjoyed
Not canadian but that Hello song went triple platinum in my house. BOP
I fucking love your channel, it's my favorite. the style is so casual it perfect
this is the perfect compliment thank you
I'm belgian, I remember when Hello came out it was well-known. I used to hear it on the radio or they used to use it in some adds
You should definitely follow this up with CanCons influence on Family Channel as well! Canadian TV shows and Canadian music videos that played between commercial breaks and Disney channel shows! I know you said theres gems you didnt cover but i think Lights 100000% deserves her flowers here!!
Im American but my perspective is skewed cuz im First Nation and i grew up on the canadian border where the only radio stations were canadian ones (mostly) so i know most of these artists very well
I was personally super into metric, mother mother, tragically hip, billy talent, T&S
Same here, not first nation. But they are all very familiar to me.
I JUST CAME 2 SAY HELLO!!!
damn did not expect to be called out as a german today chapeau
Marsy im spanish and have lived all my life here and i can promise "Hello" was played A LOT in the radios here plus still gets played sometimes to this day! When i was youger i just asumed it was by some european EDM artist or something haha
I'm 40 and I grew up with Canadian Content. It introduced me to so much good music. CanCon was simply a rule that 30% of all music on Canadian radio stations had to be deom Canadian atrists. This, in my opinion, is a great thing. We should support our musicians.
in australia hello by dragonette definitely played on the radio
my first exposure to most of these songs is your karaoke, lol. I will say Canadians do hit way above their weight class music-wise.
papaoutai is also used in english french lessons, unsure if its a curriculum thing like canada or was just something the schools near me did, but most people i know who took french remember having to listen the song. Also Hello was a huge hit in the uk too!
Papaoutai a certified banger for real
I just love your channel, you're so creative and unique!
ty my love
legit thought cancon was going to be a canadian themed convention
did not realize metric was canadian but its featured in scott pilgrim which takes place in a fictional toronto so. idk why i never connected the dots
also teagan and sara is somewhat known in the us i think? ive heard a few artists reference them or mention them so i take that as them being kinda known
wait a canadian themed convention would be awesome… like the canada pavilion in epcot but huge
I don't know most of the songs listed here. That Martin Solveig "Hello" song that was pretty mainstream in my country and I think Walk off the Earth got kinda famous as youtube musicians (???) but as a clap/stomp/hey hater i guess i kinda forced those memories outta my brain and this video reminded me of them.
Metric and Tegan & Sara tho.. brooo I'm a fan. Kid emo me loved Tegan and Sara to death, especially The Con, which I regularly go back to.
My first Drake song was Started From the Bottom
Love the IC3PEAK sticker btw!!
This is my favourite video of the year cause wow…
finding out Inner Ninja was cancon made me have an ego death
troubadour by k'naan was the first CD i ever bought, cancon got me hook line and sinker
omg whats the ai voice u used for the outro
I worked for k'naan's management company in the early 2000's and it was a TIME. they had that sweet sweet cancon AND MTV money. he got like $500k min per year from Factor, plus BC touring grants and more. he probably grossed like $2M in taxpayer funded programs per year
if there’s one thing we’re gonna do its funnel a fuck ton of money into the arts
metric!!!!!!!! nobody in the us knows them :(
That's definitely a lie, every hipster that's over 25 and works in a coffee shop knows them. 😂😂😂
@@lolgtglmao247 Thanks for the info you’re so right!! Bc hipsters = all of America…it’s a lie and I’m a liar !! But thanks for educating me
You seem like you really need to chill man, I'm making an observation. Just calm down dude.
