    The third thing you hate about your GTI is that it's a hatch? Don't get a GTI, problem solved.

    top 10 things I hate about your complaining.
    1.when you say design flaw, please remember, the doorman at VW will be more schooled than you, imagine an engineer
    2. I have never seen a MKV Golf rusting, these are galvanized and 100% rustproof.
    3. You buy a hatch and hate the hatch because physics...
    4. wheelgap maybe.. Bodyroll however is however a bullshit. The GTI is one of the best in it's class, tested by hundreds of journalists and magazines...
    5. I've never had that much dirt in my car ever. I clean in weekly outside and every other week inside, but yours looks like it wasn't cleaned since new.
    6. You can't complain about the 12 v outlets. You just should have bought a better equipment. I had a 12v in my armrest and one for the backseat passengers too, just above the cupholders.
    7. Cupholders and the rest of the car have been designed in Europe. The place where people have their drinks in cups, not 1 gallon chugs like 'muricans.
    8. the R Golf has them painted because it costs 10k more than yours.
    9. your modded engine makes a noise? maybe you shouldn't have modded it.
    10. another design flaw huh. The stupid engineers have not figured out that someone is going to make upgrades to a perfectly good engine?! thats a shame.
    your like counter will approve my message

      +Daily Driver Dude...

    • @Zero_Ninety
      @Zero_Ninety 8 лет назад +1

      +Daily Driver The cam follower is a known problem with the early FSI engines, as is the crappy PCV system and the prone to fail DV, this is why on the later engines these components were all redesigned to some extent or another. The clicking noises that the engine makes are also common (whether modded or not), mine has always sounded like a diesel when idling.
      Your point about the cupholders is true. Americans seem to be obsessed with having huuuuge cupholders.

    • @TitvsCaivs
      @TitvsCaivs 8 лет назад +1

      +Zero Ninety I had the same engine on a 2009 Scirocco and never had any problems with the cam follower, nor the clicking noises. I had it for 80 k km, from 110 to 190k.

    • @Zero_Ninety
      @Zero_Ninety 8 лет назад +5

      Daily Driver Good for you, go find someone who had to replace their HPFP and cam because the cam follower wore through and destroyed them. You not having a problem doesn't mean that it isn't a common problem. VW changed the design because of this.

    Your 12 volt complaint was bullshit, majority of cars of all varieties I've sat in have a twelve volt in the center somewhere, usually 1 but more likely to fine more these days as you alluded to

    I wish they would create a simple, light, less weighty, less luxury equipped model. MK2 Forever. Have not been inspired since the 92 GTI 16v. Power Window Switches SUCK. Seems like an expensive car for such a young kid. My 92 GTI ticks the same as that car. I think it is a GTI charm.

    I also have a 2008 United Grey 4 Door... and I'm on the internet and have opinions, so here we go.
    1) YES. Also if cracking the window the slightest bit while driving and there is so much as mist in the air...
    2) There was a TSB for that which added a chunk of foam to redirect the water.
    3) Yes, by nature of physics - but at least you have the best color for it.
    4) You have gone and reduced mechanical grip for looks. Maybe I'm not so apt to complain about the gap and ride because mine is a 2008, and slightly lower from the factory, but you have, IMO, ruined your ride quality, and in FACT reduced grip and the suspension's ability to cope with surfaces that are not a smooth race track (ie, roads, which have things like trees and buildings on either side).
    5) Dude... clean it. Your complaint is the dirt you are bringing in to the car... Also, Monster Mats help.
    6) Kind of a frivolous complaint... hell, I wish mine made me coffee. Also, the trunk plug is pretty awesome when you need to power a compressor or charge a jump-pack, isn't it?
    7) Yeah it sucks - yours doesn't also come apart and time someone uses it like mine?
    8) Agreed
    9) You are hearing the injectors spitting bursts at ridiculous pressures - you made that worse with your HPFP
    10) Yes, pain in the ass, but you made yours worse for what, 20 more hp? You could have just gone Stage II, but I'm also going to assume you are running catless. Also, this design changed halfway through 2008 with the TSI, which also got a timing chain instead of belt, and other improvements.

    • @William9alex
      @William9alex 8 лет назад

      +Ruben Hoffmann Yeah me too. I'm not sure where this guy lives but where I live any metal there would be rusted within a few years. I'd rather have plastic rocker panels than rusted metal ones: they're a pain to fix, look like crap and then you can't even jack up your car using the stock scissor jack.

  • @gutterguy720
    @gutterguy720 8 лет назад +2

    1st: If the water drains into the window switches, you're not going fast enough.
    5th: Vacuum your car and wipe your shoes before entering.
    7th: Was fixed in the MK6, when I believe they perfected the design overall.
    8th: Was also fixed in the MK6 design.
    There are absolutely no things I hate about my GTI, except maybe the payment.

    # And your lack of cleaning your gutters. Yeaah, yeah! #
    7: Yeah. Waiting for better rear cup holders since forever. Nailed that one.
    8: You just said it: The R32 has it, and that's why they charge more for it. Why buy the steak when the cheaper burger "should" throw a complimentary free steak with fries and dessert?
    10: What did you expect? You upgraded the fuel pump and now expect stock parts to keep up with warranty-voiding higer fuel pressures?

    The noise from the engine is the chain, the tensioner is worn. Get it replaced and it sounds quiet again. Thats probably also the reason the cam follower for the hpfp needs to be replaced so often. I replaced my cam follower while i changed my chain (160dkm) (100thousens Miles) and it looked brand spanking new.

    What about the carbon build up on the intake valves, necessitating a $500+ cleaning for which the intake manifold must be removed? The symptom is usually a CEL, and P0302 code [cylinder misfire] etc. when read w/OBDII scanner. One other annoying thing is the hood liner is falling off on mine, just like yours I see. Other than that, I love the car, a red 2010 6-speed.

    I had a 2010 Golf TDI 4 door and I found the suspension rather adequate, it handle surprisingly well. I completely agree with the water on the roof problem, soon as its raining you couldn't even just crack the windows or you'd get water dripping on the door cards. I had my paint strip off at the same spot on the drivers door as you do, though it was weird, but I never had ice build up problems as my car was washed top to bottom, inside and out once a week.

    real things you should hate in a gti: turning circle is worst than lot of suvs, or stability control kills engine as you approaching to a curve on high speed, again, a suv like the outlander with super awc, will have better feeling and handling with more speed when taking a curve, the gti is a "sport" car for straight line acceleration, only. Same applies for golf R.

    I have a 3 doors 2008 Edition 30 GTI. It has a K04 turbo and reinforced engine internals like the S3 engine, so it's easy to make +300 HP with just a remap.
    1st: I never had that problem with mine.
    2nd: Where I live I don't have ice in the Winter so it's something I didn't know that could be an issue.
    3rd: It's a hatch, if you hate a dirty rear you'd been better off with a Jetta GLI. I don't care much about the dirty rear, it gets properly washed eventually.
    4th: It's something that needs to be sorted in all models, not just the GTI. The US spec GTI is even 5 mm higher than in Europe. I don't know why you get a different suspension setup. Worse roads? I went for Koni Sports with H&R -30 mm (similar to Eibach Sportlines but with a lower rear), H&R sway bars, SuperPro ALK and front suspension control arm front bush from Powerflex. I'm getting SuperPro adjustable ball joints next.
    5th: That gas pedal has the best design for drivers. The suspended pedal not that great. You can be more careful with your shoes before entering the car, perhaps?
    6th: I have a Golf mk5 since Nov/2008 and I don't remember using the 12V outlet except for phone chargers. It hasn't been an issue so far. I guess VW could have fitter a rear outlet with an easier access.
    7th: No one can eat in my car and I don't think the rear cup holder has never been used. It wasn't made to be used while doing hard turns, that's for sure...
    8th: Mine has the side skirts, front spoiler and rear bumper spoiler all colour-coded. I agree with you, it looks bad. You can always have those parts painted. ;)
    9th: The TFSI (it's a FSI with a Turbo) is noisy (injectors and cam chain). Yours might need the cam chain adjuster replaced too. ;)
    10th: You can replace that design flaw with a roller type like the mk6 has. Using a better oil also seems to improve the wear rate. I'm using Millers Oils Nanodrive CFS 5w-40 NT at the moment.

    Add to your 10 things, I have 3 more. 1. Possibly the worse of all bad things in the GTI in warmer climates...THE DOOR / SIDE PANELS cheesy ass material, plus the ROOF LINER.. They SUCK in warmer climates. I live in florida and have seen so many sagging roof liners and door panels fall off due to heat and cheap glue. Then comes the real mess.. Glue on your carpeting next to your seats and worse on your CLOTHES. VW could have used better engineers and tested these materials for humidity and heat. They don't stay on for crap. Driving can be a nightmare if your window is down and a sagging roof liner falls on your face or you get that glue in your eyes. Instant catastrophe. Look I LOVE MY GTI but shit the Taiwanese short cuts make really nice ride a possible nightmare and 2. The Ac Compressor from hell. Riding in a suana with a short shifter in 90° weather with humidity and your Ac stops working or while raining. Bad Ac solenoids the culprits. 3rd and finally the horn placement. Water and your horn are enemies. Forget to replace your under engine flap and quickly you are reminded that your horn might not work after the emerging from the wrong water puddle.. VW makes a good GTI but engineers in ground and body effects were hitting the lager a bit much in the design department. Back to the drawing board and leave the flipping beer behind

    OMG..... With the water how comes in when its rain, i agree. But rust on the door from this?!? Priceless. My Gti is manufactured 2006, and gots no rust anywhere. And springs - maybe your are broken. You drive a europe car, we got 12v in front by the ashtrey, and in the back for the compressor to fix a broken wheel. And our can sizes are not supersize me. Use good oli, make a planed interval and everything is fine, but thats an american problem.

    A lot your complaints are kinda pointless really.. I hope you were just trying to find things.. The water dripping.. Totally get it! My mk4 doesn't do it as much.. But still does.. And the gas pedal makes sense.. But you hate your car cause it's a hatch!? Buy a jetta then!! Problem solved! And the plastic is left to keep the price of your car down.. Plus the original gti and the mk2 and 3 had black plastic.. The r32 gets it cause it's limited! But again. Why didn't you just buy an r.. Or have it painted! And German cars are lucky to even have that many cup holders for us Americans.. I don't usually comment.. But damn your video annoyed the shit out of me! Complain about something real man! Or just get a new car!

    No. 3 and 9 are invalid. 3) every single hatch back has the same problem. No exceptions. And 9) it's just bigger injectors are making bigger noise. Besides, usually injectors with good spray pattern are making louder noise for some reason. The rest of the problems are rather unacceptable in fact.

    A shorter title would’ve been, “what’s good about my GTI”. The DPF, the DMF and the clutches on these golfs are absolutely useless. They also lose power almost weekly due to bad engineering. Avoid these poser pods if you actually want to drive a car! 😉

    Oh, you have wheel gap enough to fit your shoe in there? You have some body roll? Oh, that's cute. I can fit a grapefruit in there and have a good half inch left. 05 Pontiac Sunfire. Worst car ever made. Falling apart at 45,000 miles.

    Those are carefully under-engeneered designs from VW... They did it that way on purpose. They want us spending more on them so they can earn more money. It does not surprice me coming from such a corrupt car manufacturer. I´m restoring an MK4 for daily use and I´m finding so much crap in that car... It is ridiculous.... I´m sorry about your GTi. Maybe changing the brand all together is not a bad idea until they make seriuos "People´s Cars" again. Thanks for the video and now I know I wont get a gti even if they are giving it away.

    So much body roll? Shut up man. Go drive a normal golf and then you will see body roll. These have hardly any body roll standard and enough to make it comfy on the road. As for wheel gap? Don't get it with 17" then... And 12V outlet in the glove box... no most cars have them in the location its currently at. Cup holders in the back holds many drinks just fine. If anything the ones in the back are way better than the crap you have in the front!

    I had an 06 passat.
    Same complaint about the fsi motor.had many questions like "is that a diesel?"
    Same complaint with the drainage from the roof. Tons of water would run right down right into my car.
    The trunk would get nasty dirty too, like the rear of your car.
    My mk4 gti does the same and my mk6 jetta too.

    You know the rust and door poking into the car is because your car dosen't have the weather pack optional extra?!!?!? No wonder it's rusty. And the fact it drips on your electric window controls is because you need to either clean out that rut or put the rubber seal in place. and ALL CARS have the accelerator on the floor, it's just you shoes are filthy. etc., etc. It has nothing to do with the golf.

    ok so the ticking noises (some of them ) are due to wear... first swap out your evap solenoid for a new one(quick fix and cheap) second the chain between the 2 camshafts needs to be replaced most of the time (when the engine is sounding like a diesel), third the injectors tick but i dont know if fitting new ones clears that out .... aaand thats most of the ticking resolved! oh and i hope you cleaned your valves and injectors at 150k cause they get messy after 80k(dealer stated interval for cleaning them)

    I'm a VW fanboy. Grew up with them and have owned them all my life.
    That said...
    You couldn't give me any mk3 through mk5 VW for free. We had to suffer through those years, with few exceptions (My 05 TDi Jetta was great).
    VW really started hitting their stride again at mk6. The looks got MUCH better and the reliability got much much better.
    Even as a fanboy, I'd say stay away from any pre-2009 VW/Audi unless it's got a meticulous service history.
    I've been driving my 2010 S5 since 2013 and it has been pure sex....knock on wood.

    Ever look into VW rust and corrosion warranty? I have a 2008 mkv gti with rust at the bottom of the driver door and i should be getting it replaced and i know several other volkswagon owners who have gotten paint work done for free, apply online and get an appointment at your local dealer! Its a 12 year warranty on all vw's sold!

    My mk 2 Audi S3 which is essentially the same car as a Golf mk 5/6 also has that annoying issue with water on the roof pouring into the car when turn a corner with the window open. Also the same shitty plastic wrap instead of paint on the B-Pillar.

    HI! Perhaps you should check the euro spec cars as they are quite a bit different. Defiantly the bottom of the the doors dont rust but also your engine clicking noise is way louder than mine which is a euro spec. You may want to check the intake manifolds and pcv valve as they prone to leak.

  • @honestycounts9352

    There is a solution to the water from your roof dripping into the inside of your car: Take some self-stick edge molding strips and simply stick them to the A-pillar of the car, and continue them up and over the roof, to the rear of the car. This creates a RIB on each side of the car that will now stop water from coming into your car's window.

    What i hate about your car is that its everywhere in my country.. literally everywhere.. And i really dislike how it looks like, its not pretty and it has no special design features. Id prefer something else for the same money Dont get me wrong, its a good car, its a VW so yea, but i really hope they change the design of it to make it more futuristic.. all the golf models look the same to me.. sure the newer models are more curvy.. just not good enough imo..
