Nicely done, another excellent review Patrick! A couple of things to mention: #1). These ENVE SES 4.5 wheels are slightly tighter/harder to mount tires on them because ENVE makes sure that the rim to tire interface is tighter and more secure so that there are no issues with tubeless tires spontaneously blowing off their hookless rims. #2). A good method for mounting tubeless tires is to use a soapy sponge and lightly wet both edges of the tubeless tires before mounting. This makes mounting the tires extremely easy, fast, and the tire bead will snap into place on the first try after adding air. #3). The somewhat harsh ride you were feeling from the wheelset could be the result of running tubes inside of the tubeless tires. ENVE designed these wheels to have a certain amount of compliance in them when they are run tubeless. #4). ENVE’s new Innerdrive hubs are really nice, and much better than their previous hubs. However, I had a custom set of these ENVE SES 4.5 wheels built up with a set of Tactics TR01 hubs, and the overall performance of the wheelset is truly impressive! Also, because the Tactics hubs are so extremely light, the complete wheelset only weighed a total of 1,314 grams, which is crazy light for a wheelset of this depth. #5). I agree with you 100%, the value of these wheels is very expensive compared to similar performance from some other Chinese brands. One of the reasons it might make sense to pay a little more for ENVE wheels is because these wheels are built in the USA (Utah) by an American company, and ENVE’s customer service is excellent if you ever have a problem with the wheels.
After watching Patrick for few years I have learned few things. Tarmac SL8 is King, Enve is King and Shimano is King. Can’t say that the men had no tried alternatives 😊

So I sold the Elites and got some Enve 45 Foundations. The foundations were more comfortable due to the steel spokes but just felt dead. After a few months I bit the bullet and went all in on a used set of the new Enve 4.5’s. Game changed. All I can say. Not sure what magic is in them but they are the best wheels out there.
My neighbor’s dad started Enve. Before the company got really big I got good deals on all the products back in the early 2010s and will always be an Enve fanboy.
@@PatrickLino I think it was 2012 to be more accurate. I was still a fairly new cyclist, only using my bike to get around town. Went from shallow alu wheels to carbon 67s and was mind blown, first carbon items I'd ever owned so the weight and strength baffled me. After a couple years I broke a wheel in a crash, walked to their front door and they handed me a new one right there as part of the warranty. I should add technically the wheel didn't break. I hit a pothole so hard the tire exploded, the rim hook was just severely scratched because I slid on the asphalt for a bit.
I own a set of these (w/ DT 240 hubs + 60T ratchet) that I bought from Pros Closet in early ‘23 RIGHT before the big boom in far east carbon wheels. That being said, it’s my dream wheelset, and having my hands on them is surreal. Given a second go around with money being no object, I’d get these same 4.5s with Chris King hubs.
I have these, i chipped 2 rear wheels in the last 15 months one from big rock on the corner and other time had someone rear end me and scraped the wheel. Enve sent me new set each time within 2days after i sent them a pick. I even used the hub from damaged wheel to mount on my training wheel set. They don’t ask u to send old set back just need to damage the wheel and sent a pick. So yea i love Enve for their crash replacement and warranty

I like some of the eastern wheels but I had questions of quality, stolen designs (hubs), strange design decisions (F/R inner width differences), and serviceability/parts even after a couple years. I would prefer if ENVE offered a hooked version.
I’m riding tubes in 2025 on my road bikes too! Lots of people still riding tubes. @PatrickLino Yeah, Campag sells the Shimano HG L2 and the SRAM XDR freehub body for their wheels. I even saved like $800 because the Campag N3W variant of the wheels were cheaper, so I just bought them and the XDR freehub body for $100. At 1530 they're nearly as light as the 4.5, but they're deeper and hooked. Campagnolo makes incredible wheels, you gotta check them out.
The trick with seating tires is to put a few drops of dish soap in a small bowl of water, and then run it around the bead before you inflate the tire. Voilà! For some reason this doesn't seem to be common knowledge in cycling.
Another great review my friend. But ENVE (Like many brands that pigeon hole themselves) I think are hugely overrated. I personally believe any brand with the right marketing team can slap on a logo to any wheel set (within a range spec wise) say they're premium, charge the price, and back it up with CS that's probably never utilized and Boom, a high end brand is born.
I have a previous gen 7.8 rear & 4.5 front on my Tarmac Sl8. The wheels are crazy fast and light feeling due to Enve's lighter outter rim weight. Now compared to my roval clx the Enve 7.8 is one pound heavier with the exact same tire and cassette but feels way snappier plus my Sl8 is still @ 15.10 lbs. Enve wheels can also get you a few extra watts with hiding the spoke nipples but you loose the ability to do an on the spot wheel true. As for thet price I see why Enve is expensive compared to other brands 1. All wheels are hand made in the US. 2. Carbon layup they use is top notch. 3. second to none warranty program. I do wish they still offered hooked versions though 🤷🏾♂
Naa. I just mounted new GP 5000’s on my 4.5’s and it took me a couple min per wheel. The trick is the rim tape. It needs to be done right and you can’t have it run up the bead walls too much.
It was funny when you said your ideal wheelset would be hooked rim with carbon spokes but then that you would choose the enves that are hookless and with steel spokes.
I love ENVE. I use their bars/stems/seatposts. But I would NEVER use a hookless carbon bike wheel. I just do not trust that design and I can't stand the ambiguity with tire compatibility. I actually think the UCI should ban hookless wheels; but that just my opinion.
As someone who doesn't have bear hands, I wouldn't manage to fit tyres to these wheels. With $3k, I'd buy a few sets of no.6 for spares and not worry about warranty.
Can't test against them if no one knows that they exist 🤣 Farsport Hypers look better on specs for fraction of price. Hell, even CRW Works CS6575 wheelset is less expensive and has better specs
I’ve got these wheels, always ridden enve’s (second hand) these 4.5’s are new. They ride great, don’t see any advantage in hookless or tubeless. I ride them with latex or tpu inners. To get the tires on and of is a drama. I trained myself to be able to change tires at the side of the road with use of a small handpump. The trick is to make sure to put the tire totally in the rim bed and use some lubricant on the edge of the tire. Still a drama but it works. The things we do to ride some nice wheels… Love them though.
Tried it, got 2 leaks which wouldn’t seal (small leaks at 60 psi )shortly after each other. Hate the mess and renewing the stuff plus one can’t fix it at the side of the road except for a plug which is another hassle.
@@simonwarmer8777must be some sort of installation error. When set up properly, tubeless is the most comfortable and also most reliable system for avoiding flats. Give it another shot!
At the time of my most recent build, I looked at this wheel set HARD. I bailed because of hookless. Price was no object. Personally, I just DO NOT like the idea of a hookless wheel set.
Can we talk about that naming scheme for a second? 50 mm front, 56 mm rear, yet they're called 4.5? I think whoever named these wheels was high as kite 🤣 Sadly, I'll never buy Enve/Ziipp/other brand hookless wheels, they're just a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and carry too much of a risk.
I have these wheels with GP5000 TTs in 28. I had no problem mounting them with some soapy water. Probably took 5 minutes to install and pump up each wheel, so 10 minutes total.
Hey Patrick, I love your content but I have to correct you. I usually just go ape shit on people but hecuase of what you do for the cycling community I will spare you. None and I am mean nothing as far as mounting should anyone listen to you. Those wheels should be run tubeless and that’s it. All the issue you experienced are non existent when you run them tubeless. I have one of the fastest times ever installing those wheels with gp5000 str. 1.43 seconds for both. Start to finish. (Yes I know I am a f legend .) As far as the measured approved width/ size tire 28 for gp5000 str is just fine. I have tested them for 10k with at least 10 customers ranging from 140 pounds to 245 pound riders, never we have had an issue. F what Enve or whatever idiot mechanic/ engineer on RUclips recommends. I got to be honest, at least 3 different friends and customers have been talking since you posted this video. Primarily making fun on the set up with tube. Last think Enve does provide warranty for crash replacement for original owner here in US. For the complete rim not just spoke. ;). As I am the very first person on RUclips to suggest these are the best wheels and have tested them more than anyone outside of UAE these are the best wheels ever…. By far… and have defended them even during campaigns against them for being dangerous…. With that being said What I can tell you for fact, is the following please: I beg anyone who plans to buy them do not ride these wheels with inner tube. I don’t care what Enve or Patrick suggest. They are wrong and they should not be ridden with inner tubes. From personal experience on : occasions me and my friends trying them with inner tubes we have have had major problems. If the inner tube pops, it will deflate faster, sometimes it doesn’t seat with inner tube and lastly and most importantly, maybe just for us but when you go very hard around the curve especially if you are very heavy rider like 220 shit can happen like tire pops out. Not one of these issues will ever ever be an issue if you run them tubeless. Cheers!
@ tubes are an outdated and objectively inferior product. Period. It’s not a debate. Just move on and enjoy a better, faster ride. No point in fighting. There is no reasoned argument for tubes beyond you just don’t like change.

Everything from Enve is expensive - but really good. In terms of the curious lightish responsive “feel” despite the overall weight - that is the effects of rim inertia. Enve uses a relatively light carbon layup in their rims, but their hubs are on the heavy side relatively speaking.
most companies that have chinese manufactured products like colnago and pinarello, canyon etc are just marketing companies for chinese carbon products anyway and the markup is excessive for just slapping a western branded sticker on them and enve is the worst overpriced example of this
@ no they're not. the rims are chinese made and american stickers now, the only thing enve makes are some custom frames and those cost upwards of 7K for something that costs 1K in china so they're on the way down charging triple for chinese carbon with an american sticker
@ except in the case of volkswagen getting caught defrauding its customers for a decade by faking smog tests with computer software which hurt the companies reputation so much it hasn't recovered yet. Please do a review on the chinese carrowter frames that resemble the aeroad and foil as I'm interested in picking one up but curious if they are safe. Thanks Patrick keep doing what your doing
Pros: flex your fat wallet to other posers at the coffee stop Cons: hookless, uses tubeless tape, made in usa, price, tire needs to be wider than frame will allow Most other wheels are better in all ways, i cant see any reason to buy these at any price. And for me personally at 86kg, id need to run a minimum 37c tire, so i basically need to buy a gravel bike to run them 😂

I'm sure a bike shop could do it faster. But this shouldn't be a deal breaker.
Naa. I just mounted new GP 5000’s on my 4.5’s and it took me a couple min per wheel. The trick is the rim tape. It needs to be done right and you can’t have it run up the bead walls too much.
Pros: Ka-kaaaw ! 🦅
more like...Ka-ching!
I view the ‘hard’ to mount as a safety factor . As if it’s very easy to slip
On…they are also easier to come off.
This is actually great logic. I appreciate this perspective, thanks.
Why are the tan walls not flushed to the wheel?
🤷🏾♂🤷🏾♂🤷🏾♂
It was funny when you said your ideal wheelset would be hooked rim with carbon spokes but then that you would choose the enves that are hookless and with steel spokes.
Please STOP ruining the day with the truth 😂
I love ENVE. I use their bars/stems/seatposts. But I would NEVER use a hookless carbon bike wheel. I just do not trust that design and I can't stand the ambiguity with tire compatibility. I actually think the UCI should ban hookless wheels; but that just my opinion.
Hookless? Nope. $3k? 😮😮😮 And not that light. By the way, I like my new Yoeleo Pro wheels a lot. And I also use TPU tubes.
Nice! Which Yoeleo set did you get?
Would you say these are louder or the Yoeleo wheels?
FOR SUREEEE
why are you against tubeless?
As someone who doesn't have bear hands, I wouldn't manage to fit tyres to these wheels.
With $3k, I'd buy a few sets of no.6 for spares and not worry about warranty.
Shrewd move for sure!
Good bike fitters in Chicago area ?
Peregrine Studio in the West Loop. Or Retul at Specialized Fulton Market. But it's gon run you $300-$350 for 3 hours.
Yasssss super Nice ❤
No Diddy! Lol 😂
I can't myself. It's automatic now sadly hahaha
Rolf Prima all the way. Fastest wheels that everyone is scared to test against.
Rolf Prima? Never heard of them. Will research..
Can't test against them if no one knows that they exist 🤣
Farsport Hypers look better on specs for fraction of price.
Why not tubeless?
Tried it, got 2 leaks which wouldn’t seal (small leaks at 60 psi )shortly after each other. Hate the mess and renewing the stuff plus one can’t fix it at the side of the road except for a plug which is another hassle.
@@simonwarmer8777must be some sort of installation error. When set up properly, tubeless is the most comfortable and also most reliable system for avoiding flats. Give it another shot!
Enve hookless no go...
That may have been the absolute worst Bill Withers impression i have ever heard. 😅
If I could pin multiple comments, I would hahahahahah
I’ll take 2 sets of No 6 any day
Smart move right there.
Tubeless plugs and inserts exist. I haven’t needed to insert a tube in years.

Hahaha smart human right there 🤣
@@PatrickLino Lessons learned from pain 🤣
Will NOT buy Enve as long as they are hookless!
Why not???
At the time of my most recent build, I looked at this wheel set HARD. I bailed because of hookless. Price was no object. Personally, I just DO NOT like the idea of a hookless wheel set.
Hookless to me is the only real deal breaker as an everyday set of wheels
Can we talk about that naming scheme for a second? 50 mm front, 56 mm rear, yet they're called 4.5? I think whoever named these wheels was high as kite 🤣
Sadly, I'll never buy Enve/Ziipp/other brand hookless wheels, they're just a solution to a problem that doesn't exist and carry too much of a risk.
Fair response for sure
In my Opinion the Enve 's are a bit Dated.
Think so?
I can't write left handed, therefore I can't ride hookless (Bill Withers is timeless).
Grandma's haaaaaaaands
@PatrickLino played the tambourine so well!! I hadn't heard "I can't write left handed" till last year. My point is, I'm too big to ride hookless.
Hookless is a big pro. All my wheels are hookless. Love them, especially with gp 5k tr
Hookless has more cons than pros on road wheels

@@PatrickLino hell yea brother
I have these wheels with GP5000 TTs in 28. I had no problem mounting them with some soapy water. Probably took 5 minutes to install and pump up each wheel, so 10 minutes total.
Duly noted for next time. Any durability or puncture issues with the TTs?
@@PatrickLino I have 341 miles on the TTs and no durability or puncture issues so far.
(Yes I know I am a f legend .)
As far as the measured approved width/ size tire 28 for gp5000 str is just fine.
Cheers!
Check my latest video. I am running 32c GP5000 tubeless. With sealant :)
@ nice!!!! Sorry I didn’t see that.

Bruh it's a Samantha doll from American Girl hahaha. It was a gift to my wife for our anniversary 😭
@PatrickLino haha sorry mate. No clue about dolls at all
@@U.s.e.r.3493 FAIR PLAY hahaha
Why against hookless? Most of the peleton are hookless.
Hookless isn’t an issue at all and you need to let go of tubes bro. Useless. Might as well use drum brakes.
Explain yourself.
@ tubes are an outdated and objectively inferior product. Period. It’s not a debate. Just move on and enjoy a better, faster ride. No point in fighting. There is no reasoned argument for tubes beyond you just don’t like change.
@@werb24 Well since you said "Period" and "No point in fighting" then I guess clearly that's the end of that! As if I would "fight" with a viewer who didn't provide any real tangible explanation, and be quick to dismiss any other views. Quality stuff right there ❤
Hookless isnt a problem yes but only for gravel/mtb... ,road no go ....
@ and what exactly is the rationale?
Everything from Enve is expensive - but really good. In terms of the curious lightish responsive “feel” despite the overall weight - that is the effects of rim inertia. Enve uses a relatively light carbon layup in their rims, but their hubs are on the heavy side relatively speaking.
most companies that have chinese manufactured products like colnago and pinarello, canyon etc are just marketing companies for chinese carbon products anyway and the markup is excessive for just slapping a western branded sticker on them and enve is the worst overpriced example of this
@ Enve wheels - including the hubs and rims, are made in Ogden, Utah.
It's like Volkswagen (compared to Honda/Toyota): You pay more but you get more.
Pros: flex your fat wallet to other posers at the coffee stop
Cons: hookless, uses tubeless tape, made in usa, price, tire needs to be wider than frame will allow
Most other wheels are better in all ways, i cant see any reason to buy these at any price. And for me personally at 86kg, id need to run a minimum 37c tire, so i basically need to buy a gravel bike to run them 😂
@@galenkehler hahahah! Does make you wonder how ENVE hasn’t gone out of business by this customer logic.
