Fernando Sor-- the way his music was supposed to sound. I love this man. What I like about Bream as opposed to Williams and the slew of the current generation's virtuosi is Bream doesn't make things sound easy--it sounds like he's sweating blood when he plays, and this effort provides an intensity to the music that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Sweating blood? you really think so? he seems pretty much in calm while playing. Not struggling at all with technical problems. The music is so fluid and articulate. Yes, he articulates a lot, maybe that's why it seems he struggles? He plays perfect in my opinion, with rhythmical power.
I love finding these old, rare videos! Can't beat Bream playing some of Sor's concert repertoire! As for the guitar, it's a José Romanillos Concert Classical guitar. I don't know the year of construction, sadly, but he used this guitar all the way through the 70s!
Julian Bream is THE MAESTRO. His musicality and the tone he produces sets him apart from other players. He is number one on my list of greatest classical guitarists.
@AndanteLargo Hola amigo, glad I stirred a memory! I have a hard time NOW, I must have got my studies the wrong way round!! Oh well. as long as I have "other talents"...See you soon Per!
I think its a Gibson J-200, those classical dudes liked that guitar, in fact, I think Segovia was in on the design of the J-200.They only played this stuff in concert, at home they played old blues, I think I got a film of Julian and Bukka White jamming, Julians guitar sounds real nice next to Bukka's National.
@MahlerianMuse This kind of sounds like it, but this isn't from sonata no. 1 (op. 22) if that was what you were referring to. Do you know the opus # for this one?
Please, I do not play the guitar but I enjoyed very much this performance.I would appreciate if somebody could tell me which piece is this, and the composer's name.

Why doesn't anybody else watch this performance? I have watched it 98,301 times.
Bream took the idea of the "guitar as a little orchestra" to a whole new level.

Soytu19 I think , by sweating blood” he meant to say that Bream played with all energy and ful heart devotion !

Why the hell people concentrate always in a bloody mistake...The whole panorama of Bream artistry is what matters!!!
@msutton2006 Woops. It was a sonata before the first. Its Op. 15 I believe.
Can you Post the whole Sonata please?!!!
Could someone please tell me what piece this is? I forget sometimes how beautiful Sor can sound!

This is a Jose Romanillos guitar. You can tell by his signature rosette.

Its Sonata Op. 15
And just think - NO high gain amps or effects. A lost art. Now we have brainless shredders.
Sonata Op.15 Fernando Sor
true, bream is the best, but i am surprised to see his make a mistake at 1:39 It is as rare as hens teeth!

IS THIS A VILLA LOBOS PIECE, CORRECT ??
he's o.k.! but I like her better ("Little North Korean Girl Playing Guitar")
haaha
boring......you MUST be kidding.
boring compared to Bach
i dont belive in destiny,
i dont belive theres a point to life,
but i do belive,
this man was made to play this instrument.
