western sichuan will be the best place to go in autumn. you will see the spectacular snow mountains, deepest valleys and conyons in the world, lush forest and extremely beautiful lakes. it's a wild version of switzerland plus the tibetean culture.

i go to hotpot restaurants for ingredients you can't really (or it'll be too much of a hassle) have at home like duck intestines, tripe, or even good-quality shrimp paste. i can even eat hotpot every other day (even alone). so no I don't think it's just for the atmosphere or to gather with friends nor do i think it is remotely over-rated 😅

I'm fussy and dont get that skilled chinese chefs in Australia and prefer hotpot as I can control cooking times 😂😂😂
This one is my favorite in Chengdu, even it’s a chain restaurant, this particular one in the video is THE best. And it’s more spicy than other cold-pot chuanchuan restaurants in Chengdu.
你们回中国了唷 。欢迎呀。我自己是个专业厨师，做fusion，所以对世界很多国家菜都有不少了解，这个世界太多overrated的东西了。 而且这些overrated的东西很多时有共同特点，比如“不贵”，“情怀（吃着长大）”之类的。 我觉得Nico可以大胆点😅像我自己，为了研究菜，我是广东人，为了明白川渝的火锅，我天天吃牛油火锅，当完全驾驭辣之后，对牛油的理解就不一样了，而且这种重口火锅是主要涮内脏的，对西方人是非常难以理解的（除非逼着自己天天吃来克服）。对于一般人来说，feel comfortable和第一感觉是好吃的就行了。毕竟我们做fusion的需要文化反差，需要量化“好吃”。
I totally agree! I never like spicy food and spicy hotpot is just garbage! I do like hotpot but definitely not the spicy version and the place should have other good they can be order with the hotpot cause I suck at cooking.
Ur reasoning for hot pot being over rated shows that u only have hot pot in restaurants. Do it at home. Invite friends over. Its much cheaper as well.

Lots of suggestions requested at the end of the video. I'm glad I'll have my eyes back once you & Jack reach China. China is 40 years ahead in tech while it still respects its culture and fulfills its goals of common prosperity and shared future for mankind. I would like to see how the country side is embracing tech and using the same to showcase their traditions and culture

Some hotpot is overrated, it's like saying all McD is equal, it's not. Beijing style hot put and high quality ingredients and don't being your kids to eat, then it's awesome 🤦
I also don't like hotpot. Not sure how all the hype about hotpot started...

I agree spicy hotpot is overrated but I like beef hot pot which is very popular in Guangdong. Each province has their own hot pot and some of them are not spicy. You spend a lot of time Chengdu and Beijng but their food does not represent the whole China. Even BBQ food in each province is different. In Shenzhen almost every food street has beef hot pot and BBQ restaurant. If you refer video of Blondie, she try beef hot pot in Chaochau and she prefer beef hot pot more than spicy hot pot. When you are in China, you did not stay in Guangdong and Shanghai long enough to understand their food culture. I prefer Guangdong roast goose more than Beijing duck. Guangdong roast pork, BBQ pork and Dim Sum is very popular in oversea China Town. I recommend you them.

Well, guess what, hotpot is much more friendly to home cooking. Whenever we don't have the time to cook a proper dinner, we pull out our home hotpot and that way we can start eating sooner.
With maocai and chuanchuan, unless you're a Sichuan local and know how to make the base just right, you're simply not going to have the home maocai or chuanchuan experience.
Maybe Guangxi province？
My parents always said that hotpot is overrated. XD they would never go to a hotpot restaurant. (Oh we're Chinese btw) they'd rather order things that takes effort to cook.
Chinese here. My dad would always say this when we have hotpot:” What’s the point of eating food that all taste the same?”

Haven't had hotpot yet, but based on this video, I wouldn't have survived from it.😂I may give it a try one day but only if an emergency room is nearby.:)
You may try non-spicy hotpot, or very mild ones.

Spicy hot pot is popular in Siuchun. China has beef hot pot, chicken hot pot with coconut juice, vegetsble hot pot and mutton hot pot.

As a Chinese, we don't often eat hot pot, as far as my current ranking of hot pot, beef hot pot in Guangdong is the best, followed by coconut chicken hot pot, and finally spicy hot pot
Personally I prefer 麻辣烫 over hot pot as well. After having hot pot I become sticky, especially in winter. 😅
You guys should go to the temple called Dabei Temple ("大悲寺"), trust me, Jack is definitely gonna love it, hahaha I know Jack very well.

Hotpot sucks. What's so good about paying a premium and still need to cook for yourself? For gathering? maybe. But there are better choices.

Cold soy milk is the best! Especially when it is not thick ( filled with particles ), it smells good, and it is perfectly sweet enough and not too sweet. So so so so delicious!!!
hot pot is not for foods, but for gathering with friends and spending time with them.
Grand video, for alternatives offered, style and possibly because it also is an observation of your realities within China, it may change when you are back..... so you can appreciate hot pot, as well as other options.
i like spicy food, but honestly mala is way overrated.

Hi that’s awesome I hope you get the chance! I use Trip.com to book everything from flights to trains to hotels. You can pay with a visa or Mastercard as well so it’s really easy. With Chinese trains though they only release them a couple of weeks in advance so it is harder to reserve them. Just make sure you don’t travel on a public holiday and then you should be fine haha
Honestly, I don't like the hotpot because I don't like to cook and wait until my food got cooked hahaha In short, I just want a ready to it meal 😂❤ Loving this options you shared to us! I'm Chinese, I don't like hotpot either. I can eat it if others want, but myself don't ask for it. furthermore, I don't like organs, frogs, bloods, turtle, snake, duck head, rabbit head etc... 😆 maybe I'm not a typical Chinese. I just like decent meat, fish and vagetables.
and, I don't like most of food in Chengdu, because actually most of foods are variants of ma-la hot pot: ma la tang, chuan chuan, are actually different type of hot pot. everything taste the same because of the ma la Hotpot condiment
I never try the hotpot that you mention. I only eat the hot pot with beef, chicken, vegetables and fish which is very popular in south china.
I’m Chinese, I don’t eat spicy hotpot often. Like to eat plain hotpot tasted with other gradients of sweet,tasteful,sour,saucy.type. There are many other foods cooked with flour. Rice or noodle cooked with meat, beef, lamb meat, pork, even turtle. You can taste other food like tofu filled with fish slice.
Please change the title to spicy hot pot is over rated. Your video only have spicy hot pot but China has a lot of hot pot and spicy hot pot is only one of them. The video title is misleading.
