Added Yaapu Telemetry Scripts to my TX16S radios

  • A quick peek at the results of the efforts to get a telemetry script known as 'Yaapu' script installed and tweaked and fully functional on both the primary and backup TX16S transmitters.
One might question 'Why two radios?'. The short answer is 'Redundancy.'...

Back in '99-'00 when I was in tech school, I would've never imagined radio gear would be so robust. Stuff like this really makes me miss playing with full scale aircraft. Keep up with the cool "toys"!

Yeah, I hear ya 5 by 5. Being an avionics type and special missions geek, I can't not trick my birds out with payloads that are pretty cool. For me, it's the systems integration aspect that intellectuallly stimulates me.

It shows no telemetry. How do I fix it?

On the left hand side you have Range, Home and Travel. Where do you change it to make it Imperial settings?

I'm away from my wares, on professional travel ISO my day job. I should be able to determine where these units are configured when I get back to the house this weekend.

I believe that it is done in the telemetry discovery page, once the telemetry elements are discovered, one can then cease discovery and click edit on each to drill down and identify how the elements are to be unitized within the radio and available for use by scripts. Gimme a bit and I'll verify.

I just looked on my radio. It might actually be set in the yappu config Lua script. After one sets yappu up on their radio, there should then be a config menu option at the end of the script listing (provided the scripts were copied over as detailed in the script setup guides).

I finally figured it out. You need to go into Radio setup. Scroll down to units click Imperial. Then GALT, HOME TRAVEL will show in Imperial. Then your displays will be displayed correctly on the left hand side.

Hey Craig. I'm keen to share/assist. Just know that I am still pretty wet behind the ears. These past couple of months are my first foray into FW FPV on the RC Hobby side of the house (professionally I'm an Avionics Systems Integrator, so the curve is a bit less steep, I suspect).
I presume that you're running a FC with some base FW thereon? I decided to cut my teeth with Ardupilot, as I am a control freak and wanted to be abstracted away from the HW as little as possible.
What does your setup look like?
Ifin your interested in establishing efficient comms, and you're a Discord user, that might be preferential to chatting back and forth in the video comments.?. I can suggest a server/channel we can chat realtime if you make use of Discord (or Telegram).
      EDIT:
Here are a couple relevant ArduPilot screenies: i.imgur.com/fi0dMBh.png i.imgur.com/K94acYp.png
Serial4 is my RC IO from the ELRS receiver.
      EDIT2:
Here are a couple of relevant TX16 screenies: i.imgur.com/OW6y3L5.png i.imgur.com/JkMSYbs.png
These are the ELRS settings for the transmitter module and the receiver on the aircraft.
In the case of my two FW FPV birds, I am using a 900(915) MHz RC link.
This should be synonymous if employed when using a TX16 with an internal 2.4GHz ELRS module.
I actually have a pair of TX16S transmitters with those modules, but am using an AirPort setup for Mission Planner telemetry between the aircraft and my GCS laptop, so not using 2.4 on the handheld transmitter.
One might ask 'Why use Yaapu if you have a separate telemetry link?' Response: I am still gutting my teeth and want to gain more of an understanding with both setups.
The TEL over ELRS/CRSF *RC link* is one-way in that it can't send data back to the aircraft beyond the RC Channel Commands (that is likely to change as things mature, I understand).
The TEL over an ELRS *AirPort link* provids a bidirectional serial port between the FC on the aircraft and the computer hooked to the TX module on the ground.
In my case, I have that port on the FC configured as MAVlink2 and Mission Planner connects to it when it is in flight just like if on the bench and a USB cable is hooked to the FC from the GCS. It is just a lot slower (i.e. 19200 baud over AirPort vs. 115K via USB). But it works and, subject to testing/verification, enables full control of the payload from MP (to include an ability to do things that would be very bad when the aircraft is in flight - be warned - lol).
      EDIT3:
One might note that I am running ELRS v3.3.0 on the TX module, but only have v3.2.0 on the RX module. This is intentional.
That is a work around for a bug that is in v3.3.0 affecting the receiver modules (it forces channel 15/16 to provide LQ/RSSI to the FC via CH15/16, instead of RC control Ch15/16).
I desired to have the ability to have all 16 RC channels to be used by the pilot, so I down-graded to 3.2.0 on the RX module.
It works well for me. Just a FYI...

      Thanks for the reply.
I'm on discord yes if that help? I did try to put my username but youtube took that down.
