How-to add iNav Telemetry Lua Script to Radiomaster TX16s

  • In this video I'll show you how to add the iNav Telemetry Script to the Radiomaster TX16s. With this telemetry script, you get an excellent graphical representation of critical data points.
    In the case of roll/pitch there is an AHI (artificial horizon indicator). Battery voltage, vertical speed, compass heading, current draw, transmitter power, gps coordinates, and a gps map are also viewable.
    This is a very trick setup and easy to do. Don't hesitate to try it out if you're running an iNav flight controller.

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 года назад

      3D GPS Lock as in > 6 or > 7 satellites? I don't think there's a 3D lock sensor; however, you can use logic to give you an alert. I believe Sats is the count of sensors. Use that value in a logical switch. L01 a>x Sats 6 Then a special function when L01 is active, play track "xxx".

    • @RCVideoReviews

      If you're using an iNav based FC, I'd think you would want GPS to get the most out of it. All of the nav modes and rth depend on GPS. I wouldn't get it for the script as much as the other functionality you get from the FC when GPS is added. You can get a BN220 for about $16.

    1. You have "150nz" written in the upper right corner. I don't have this label. What's it?
    2. everything works very quickly and smoothly for you, the radio draws a lot of frames per second. I have not so smoothly, slower, somewhere 1-2 frames per second. What is the reason?,
    My setup: inav260, lua172,
    matek f405, softserial s-port, rx: jumper r1 16ch, tx: radiolink tx16s

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 года назад

      1. 150hz is a Crossfire update rate and it's automated.
      2. I'm not exactly sure because both radios use the same CPU. You might try upgrading your SD card. Also make sure to turn off sensor discovery if you haven't already.

    Hi. I have followed your video and the iNav script is running nicely with the iNav "standard model" installed on my TX16s. The annoying bit is that if I change a switch such as SW A or SW D (back to the centre position) the Mode (Angle - Horizon - Acro) is spoken three times. Is that normal, or if not what may be wrong ? Oddly if the receiver (and thus model) is switched Off the Mode is only spoken once so the problem appears to be with the Telemetry script.

      It's a simple 4 wire connection outlined in the FC manual. To use UART #2: Ground, 5v, Ch1 = Rx2, Ch2 = Tx2. Then in iNav you just set the protocol on the receiver page to Crossfire. Telemetry is sent automatically from there, just add the sensors on your radio. This page has a diagram showing the connectivity: www.mateksys.com/?portfolio=f722-wing#tab-id-4

I'm using the TX16S with Crossfire Micro TX and Nano RX and MATEK F11WSE. All firmware is fully up to date as of 9/20/2022 and the iNAV Configurator shows that all the modes are being selected correctly.
    UPDATE - I thought it was Crossfire causing the problem but found it's actually iNAV that's doing it and it's specifically this version: inav_5.1.0_MATEKF411SE_FD_SFTSRL1. I needed the softserial port for the DJI FPV Air Unit. But now I've connected my analog camera and VTX to the F411WSE board and I can see that iNAV is using ACRO for all modes except Manual and Angle. I need to see if I can find the right place on Github and enter a ticket.

I haven't tried it yet, but you might want to try to "reset" the flight. Long press jog dial, reset, flight. Not sure if that'll work or not, but I've experienced similar discoloration issues with fonts. Rebooting the radio definitely restores the correct color.

      In betaflight you can set the mah of the battery and your low voltage cutoff. The flight computer can calculate mah consumed with a current sensor, therefore the fuel % can be derived. Honestly, I don't pay any attention to any of that stuff. I simply watch my voltage. Depending on the type of aircraft, I get it on the ground around 3.6-3.75v/s

      Yes, for any model that has iNav and that you want the iNav telemetry LUA to operate, you'll have to add it. There are options though, you can setup one model and use it as a template for others. That's what I do.

  • @rkorenek

    Suppose I am interested in iNav. But not interested in FPV. Suppose I am interested in flying using Line of Sight. Could I use these LUA scripts to recover after losing visual orientation?
    Suppose I take steps when mounting iNav Controller to isolate from vibration. Would this work when flying gasser airplanes in the 30cc - 100cc range?
    Thanks, Randy

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  3 года назад

      I don't know I would want to try and use a script to try and recover a plane after losing orientation. If I had iNav in a plane, I would rather just flick a switch and have the plane return to home or loiter while I regained my bearings.
      If you're suggesting you can eliminate vibrations as a problem I don't see any reason the computer couldn't control the plane. You may want to check on the current demands to drive the servos and you may need to power them externally. As far as the airframe goes, the computer won't care what it's in so long as the airframe is supported by the firmware.

    • @rkorenek

    • @RCVideoReviews
      @RCVideoReviews  2 года назад

      I'm not familiar with any error message that says, "disable navigation first, unable to connect". If you're using analog goggles, there is no interaction between the transmission/reception of data and the flight computer other than the overlay of OSD. In other words, there is no mode on the FC that can prevent video data from reaching the goggles. Navigation modes generally involve the GPS, so you may want to ensure you have a manual mode available and that it is active before attempting to arm.

      The radio works with lua out of the box. This lua script is designed for iNav devices and the telemetry delivered by iNav to the radio. It will not work with just an L9R. You've also asked about 6 different questions between the Rx, YaaPu, iNav LUA, Pixhawk, and A3. I can't answer all of them here....
      For the script in this video, you need an iNav device, a TX16s, and an Rx that supports telemetry.
      The A3 is a stabilizer and offers no telemetry info.
      The L9R does not support telemetry.
      Yaapu is a LUA script for telemetry.
      The Pixhawk PX4 is a flight computer.
