- Just a quick video of getting the rotating assembly together. Check your model for the specific torques specs.
I didn't mention it but I always put loctite on the rod bolts and you always use new rod bolts
When I was young and poor with a wife and 2 kids I overhauled my 3020 in frame. Was so proud, I used plastigage, lubed everything, then tapped the wrist pins in the rods to connect the pistons. This was before the internet and being older and still dumb. Engine is still together with no noise….i don’t know how, must be luck, I keep waiting to hear something…. Yes I had bushing material when I drove them in….that was 20 years ago. Wish I had the info on machining the pins to match rods but she still does 50-60 hrs a year with no issues. I’ll take her down and make it right if I ever sell her
Nice!
Excelente video gracias por compartir tus conocimientos,
aca tenemos John Deere linea 20 y 30 buenisimos. saludos desde Argentina.
Glad you made the trip from Argentina!
How are things looking down there?
@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 Todo bien aca tenemos dos JD 2420

Great vid, the fine lady is showing you how to make a top vid, Jon 😊
@@CraigyFarm ha, you should have seen her behind the camera dorking around
@ 😂
The master at work! My dad still has the same torque wrench you do, they are nice. Personally, I HATE torque to yield bolts. Thanks for sharing, Jon! Hope you have a good one
@@evanaustin2636 I got this one the fall of 93 when I started college.
Turning into Jon Stevens Maple Grove Mechanic
You changed your name!
@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 yep. See if it does anything
Very satisfying work.
Dish soap in engine assembly! That’s a new one for me, won’t it blow bubbles lol. Good video guys!
@@dustinadams9136 If you can't push it through the top o ring by hand, you need more lube.
Another good one
enjoy your channel, looking forward to hearing your presentation at our meeting in Fairmont
What should I talk about?
Introduce yourself.
maybe good to here what drove you to make the changes to your farming system, successes and failures along the way, where you want to go from here, I will introduce myself - see you on the 5th
That's just mighty interesting
Thanks Alex.
Hey John. That was an exciting video. Especially like imagining the outdoor temps while you are calmly hanging out in a t shirt. If you had time could use your brainpower on a 4440 question. I recently noticed when using a hydraulic pump sprayer that when I' in b1 or b3 I get the full pressure I want. When I'm in b2 or b4 it holds a while but then oscillates. I john deere dude suggested that this is an early sign the transmission is going out, something about the shaft running the length of the tractor, What would you think?
@@TwoHappyChildrenFarm so what that John Deere guy is saying is that there's a drive shaft that couples into the crankshaft and it goes through everything and then it hooks to the transmission pump. But usually when that shaft goes it just goes. And there's no difference of that shaft whether you're in low or high.
When you are in low it might be spring applied and when you're in high it's hydraulic applied. So when you're in high and you start losing some oil, the first thing you can do is rev the engine up to overcompensate for the leak or at some point you might have to pull the two-speed and investigate
I would have to say that the two-speed could have a slight leak.
@@TwoHappyChildrenFarm we are coming off of a couple days of 25 below
I'll happily take any 4020 videos. Next project, rebuilding the main hydraulic pump. Woohoo.
Is that an 8850 in background? Really like the 50 series. Just added an 8450 to our fleet and was surprised how the hood opened. Almost feel like our 8760 hood is a step backwards.
@@Derrick-t3o 8640 and 8650.
Would love an 8850,
Good evening Jon, what machine shop do you use?I live by Princeton, been looking for a good one, have you been happy with them, Thanks for the videos

What the wife doing cinn-a-mmin magic , I'll take 2 cinnabonds to go
How difficult is it to replace an engine in a 8630 ? I have one I’d like to but and restore and use a little, but needs a engine been sitting for about 15 years
"Not hard". Ha,
Remove the fuel tanks, guard and crossover tube
Jack or two under the hinge
Bolts for side frames to hinge
Hydraulic lines along engine on both side
AC lines and battery cable on left.
Then you can get bolts out of engine mount. Depending on radiator shroud you might have to pull the shroud and fan.
Brackets at rear engine from block to side frame
The front drive shaft collar
Drain pipe from the oil pan
Either weld some brackets on a running gear axle to bolt to the very front of the side frames so the whole thing don't tip. Over forward. You will roll the front axle with that big cast front piece, the radiator, all that stuff and the side frames as one unit
Then I start stripping the engine down. But if you're just swapping shane hook onto the engine and get all the other miscellaneous stuff off
Honestly it Takes me an easy 10 hours to get the engine to the ground. At least that's what I bill out. By the time you drive the tractor into the shop pump the fuel out, drain the water. Take all that miscellaneous stuff off if if you've got it under 15 hours, that's pretty good
Hello Jon I got your message about the price of the 4630 but I don't want to put the money in a low horsepower tractor thanks
What kind of oil are you sung on bearings? Thanks for video.

Should i rebuild my 329 or swap with 359 in 4030
@@bigwhane8603 that's up to you. Ha.
A good used engine could be a cheap fix to a bad engine.
@ well is a 359 that much better
Why does 329 get hate
@@bigwhane8603 not sure why people hate on them engines? They're good little runners. Not the horsepower and torque of the 466 obviously but their peppy little engines.
@@jonstevensmaplegrovefarms3754 i agree. Fuel efficient tooooooo
