Great video. Simple and clear. I like how the artist says when she doesn’t like something and either changes it or explains that there will be a lot more layers. Thanks!
Oh Geez, it took me forever to get it together. But have several new videos up, and set up to film and post them regularly. Check out the ones on my channel, especially this one where I managed to get sound and light and editing happening :) ruclips.net/video/tl37yrAWXiE/видео.html
Hey Ellen, a bit embarrassed about how long it took to get more videos to you, but have a few new ones up, and more coming out ! Here's one you might enjoy with good sound and light ! ruclips.net/video/tl37yrAWXiE/видео.html
@@amycliser9083 Hey Amy, have some new videos up. It took a while, but...well, now they'll be coming out more regularly. Here's one you might like ruclips.net/video/tl37yrAWXiE/видео.html
Indeed this has been a very helpful introduction and insight into painting with cold wax medium and oil. Please continue to develop more videos. Thank you for sharing.
@@karenapana6306 I'm so very sorry I haven't been very on top of this Karen. I'm doing a workshop next Saturday in Healdsburg, but we're not focusing on cold wax. I AM creating an online class right now, since there's been so much interest. It should be live in about a month.
Hi Andrea. I've wanted to try using cold wax for doing impasto with oil paints, but I've read on a couple of forums that the wax never fully dries. Is there any truth to that? I decided to go with limestone flour for now, but I'd love to try cold wax... what do you think?
There probably is a little truth to it. It takes a LONG time to dry fully when used as impasto. There are other mediums that work better for that, though I use cold wax myself if it's not for a too heavy texture build up
That's so funny. It's very bizarre to talk to the camera while being "in the painting zone" but, having taught so much, I just imagine the camera are my peeps
Hi there! What a great video. I'm getting ready to switch from 30 years of acrylic to oil and cold wax. This was super helpful and INSPIRING! What are your favorite "get started" oils?
Hey Sheri, I have to say, that I've never gone for the "get started studio brand" of any material. You're best served by getting the best you can afford. You'll be a lot happier with the end result !
Encaustic requires heat to dry though I'm not an expert in encaustics. Cold wax doesn't and is far less toxic. That's why I started using it. Became allergic to oil paint mediums.
I don't think so, but am not sure. I don't use it that way. You can use it to varnish your acrylic water based paint though. It'll give it a mat surface with a very light sheen. Looks great.
Hey Amanda, YES ! finally got part two and three up on my channel. Take a look. ruclips.net/video/ft-j3Ilgu1M/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/tl37yrAWXiE/видео.html
Hello Andrea, I did a large Oil/wax painting on canvas using palette knife three months ago, it seems dry when I touch, but today I wanted to give a finish protective wax coat with a soft fabric, and the pigment comes off, especially where I used Prussian blue. I need to deliver it in two weeks and don't know how to make, I would appreciate your help!.
You know I've never tried that combination. The best way to find out is to experiment on a side board to see if you can get what you're after. I HAVE used cold wax on a regular oil painting to build up texture - not using a brayer but a palate knife. So no problems there. Not sure why you want it to warm up though...
Hmmmm. There's just a tiny bit of gamsol in cold wax, so there are very little fumes. That's why I started working with it. But always keep your studio or work space ventilated.
to a certain degree, but after a while, it'll be too waxy and you'll lose the translucent layers coming out from previous layers, It's a fine line. Again, I teach classes in this, it might be helpful to do a workshop. Let me know if that's of interest

Love your work and cold wax and oil is so interesting! I can't find part two to this painting! I am hoping there is! Thank you!
There isn't a part two to this one unfortunately but I have a bunch more demos on my channel that you might like.
Good demonstration and appreciated the attached links. Thank you.
Thanks very much for sharing! I hope you do another video :)

Use of the brayer is interesting.
This was really helpful! Can't wait to see part 2.
Ok, I'll make another one. I finished that painting without filming, but I'll do some more for you if it's helpful.
Me too! This was great.

Not related but I like the top (2 layers?) you are wearing in the video. 🙂
So funny. I've always been a clothes horse, and when things I get old, I just put them on in the studio.
So is this Encaustic? What’s the difference? Great demo btw!
Encaustic requires heat to dry though I'm not an expert in encaustics. Cold wax doesn't and is far less toxic. That's why I started using it. Became allergic to oil paint mediums.
Is it possible to use the medium with dry pigments?
Yes it is
I like this video because Andrea gets right to business. I am annoyed when videos begin by telling me what they are going to tell me.
I know how you feel. When you see my next videos please tell me if I drone on too much !
Great introduction. I work with hot wax, encaustic, love it but would love to try cold wax. Will cold wax work with water-based oil paint?
I don't think so, but am not sure. I don't use it that way. You can use it to varnish your acrylic water based paint though. It'll give it a mat surface with a very light sheen. Looks great.
Andrea Wedell just use the cold wax alone to varnish?
Yes it will.
Excellent information. Does it matter what kind of Gesso we use? Encaustic Gesso?? Thank you
Doesn't matter what kind of gesso you use
Is there going to be a part two?

Thank you very much Andrea, it is very interesting for me. A question, will cole wax warm with Alkyd colors and liquin?

Do you need an exhaust system with cold wax or will an open window do? Thank you!

Nice
Thanks
Can you use cold wax with acrylics?
I wouldn't advise that...best to stick with oil.
I love your work! I am wondering where/how do you sign your work? I notice a lot of oil/cw artists don’t have signatures on the front.
I sign them on the back
can we keep on adding layers and what do we do with the fat over lean principle?

Hi, how do you clean the brayer? Thanks
Use baby oil to clean it and let it soak about an hour then wipe
