Great job thank you for the info. My daughter sold some at a market yesterday, she did a good job, but she did encounter some difficulties. So would you say the key is temp consistency and time in the oil?
Definitely! And maintaining the oil temperature can be tricky. It's going to drop when you add batter but will come back up so you have to find that sweet spot to keep it from getting too hot or too cold when cooking. It can take some practice. :)
I just found your channel today and am watching many videos. Great job with this one. When I make these I tend to put a bit of cinnamon in the batter... not traditional, but adds just a little something. Keep up the good work.
Sadly, I think about the same as I've concluded with any other deep fried food - I don't want to deal with cleanup and/or storage to reuse that much oil more than I want to make them myself. I have to admit I'm really tempted this time, though, and the pan I do keep a half-inch of oil in for wieners and thawing/browning premade frozen breaded things might work with miniature ones.
Ya, cleanup is a lot of work. And saving the oil is a bit of a chore also. But peanut oil is pricey to just use once and toss it in the trash. So I went to a local restaurant supply store (Restaurant Depot in my area ) and bought the large "10 paper funnel filters (box of 50 for $15.05 ) and the big wire funnel rack ( for $8.65) to hold the filter that suspends over a tall stock pot to catch the filtered oil. Then the filtered oil gets stored in 1/2 gallon glass mason jars. For my "Farberware 4 Liter Deep Fryer" (model #201639) deep fryer it holds a gallon of oil. So, it saves a lot of oil and money in the long run.
Trin M this reply is late but you can add a small amount of the batter and if it bubbles around it (a lot of bubbles) then it ready. then you can add the rest of the batter 😊
I’m so sorry I missed your comment! The notification system is not the best until I get a bunch of responses. Honestly that test method tells you it’s hot basically. It doesn’t really give you a very accurate result. Your oil could be too hot. Amazon sells a bunch of thermometers that are around $7. It’s really the best way to go about it. The oil temperature is pretty important here. I’ve never had success without the thermometer. They are usually burned on the outside and not cooked on the inside or kind of soggy when they are done.
