  • Watch as I transform a terracotta bowl into a mini desert-inspired cactus arrangement and share my tips and tricks for cactus care and propagation. I'll use various small cacti, including a Bunny Ear Cactus, blooming small opuntia as well as other succulents I've collected such as Haworthia and Baby Toes. Some of these cacti are prickly, so I'll handle them with care. The arrangement will be spaced out more than my usual succulent arrangements, and I'll use desert sand filler and rocks to add visual interest.
I'll share my favorite cactus and succulent mix, which is sandy and gritty, perfect for these plants. Cacti care is similar to succulent care, requiring occasional deep watering to mimic desert conditions. After arranging the plants, I add interesting rocks, a gopher skull for a unique touch, and finish with decorative sand. The final result is a beautiful desert cactus landscape. I love it! I have tried doing this before, but some of the plants just outgrew the pot. You’ve inspired me to try again. Thanks!

Yes, that totally happens (especially with succulents) they do need to be maintained... or moved to a bigger pot! Sounds like you had happy plants.

Depends on your location, where you grow it (indoors or outdoors) and also what kind of soil mix you use. I personally would make the soil mix more gritty than she used. When the soil holds too much water for too long you are looking at root rot issues.
If you use a very gritty mix and grow outdoors you can water weekly. If you are growing indoors under grow lights and the soil mix is retaining water more you can go a month sometimes a little longer. Hope that helps. It’s hard to advise watering for people without having all the details. 😅❤

I water very rarely. Cactus really thrive in very dry environments and that is where people usually go wrong as they water too often and root rot can occur. Once any tiny bit of rot gets on a small cactus they're difficult to rescue💀 I keep the soil completely dry until the cactus show signs of thirst, they will get a little dull and perhaps a little wrinked as they start to use their own internal moisture to sustain themselves. Once I know they're ready to be watered I give everything a really good soak. I put the planter in a tray to catch the water that drains from the bottom and let it sit and soak for about an hour. Then... don't water again for a long long time!

Looks like that Cactus soil mix you use from Target has a huge gnat infested issue along with mushrooms. Also many reviewers said that it holds water too much and root rot happens. Me personally I prefer to make my own soil medium mixture and steer clear from the cactus and soil mixes sold. They usually are way too expensive and you get very little for your money. Also I prefer pumice over perlite. Because perlite is too light and it floats to the top. Just my experience.
Great video on how to plant up a cactus arrangement though. BEAUTIFUL ❤Just wouldn’t use that soil medium. You couldn’t PAY me to use it. 😅

Ah good to know! I've never had an issue with it myself (and I always find mushrooms a sign of healthy soil) but I also usually keep my soil so dry I've never had any of those issues show up for me. Glad you likes the arrangement though, it's something a little different than what I've done before.

I like your arrangement however your music was terrible I'm so sorry but I had to keep muting it that constant drum beat and guitar pick it just was terrible it would have been so much more enjoyable if there was absolutely no music save yourself some editing time and leave the music out.
