I can totally relate to everything you have said. I've struggled for years with my mental health and always thought i was maybe bi-polar.
My head races at a million miles an hour. I quit caffeine, cannabis and tobacco in November. I have no motivation to do anything and day to day is challenging when ive only had 3 hours sleep.
Last week i caved in and got some weed, and completed my first portrait for months.
You video has rang so many bells as ive been a bit of a psycho in the past.
First thing Tuesday morning i'm ringing the Doctors and i refuse to be fobbed off any longer. I'm 55 and don't want to go down this dark tunnel any longer!
Total respect and admiration to you, Rob for being so honest about your struggles. Just watch your dribbles don't smudge your paintwork, dude! No retreat, no surrender!

I’m 71 in a couple of weeks and I have found that ADHD is probably one of the most debilitating conditions in later life. It is also all too often misdiagnosed, mistreated or ignored altogether. Everyone has a tipping point and I found mine at a visit to the doctors as I was really struggling and all he said was “man up” that’s when the red mist descended. Rob has been a great help to me being new to airbrushing but others have been real arseholes. The only good thing is that they are from over the pond. Still it got so bad that I haven’t even looked at the airbrush in over a week and right now not sure if I ever will but will still support Robs channel 100%

I've not been diagnosed with ADHD but i've been suffering with depression and suicidal thoughts since childhood and still struggling, i'm now 57, its the reason i lose my mojo every now and then, some days i can be so creative and zone in to my work, other days i can barely look at a piece of leather, i just want to curl up into a little ball, fall asleep and not wake up..I can't handle stress anymore either.. I'm saying this not to detach from your issues Rob, its more to highlight that no one should be embarrassed or to manly to seek help, However, the issues you have mentioned are so similar to what i experience.

I was diagnosed last year at age 54. It was such an eye opening experience. For most of my life, I thought something was wrong with me. I was “broken” and that’s why I couldn’t be like everyone else, but that’s not true. I started researching and understanding that my brain just works differently. I’m working with my doctors and things are better now, but I’m definitely still a wip. I identify with so much you said and I felt the need to comment. You’re not alone my friend. 👊🏾

I know kids with ADHD and it is difficult for them just to get through the day, I am very patient, but the Tesco thing gets me in flames with temper and with me, it turns from calm to red mist. I do understand how you are feeling, due to the kids I know who have it, their temper supersedes mine and they are only kids. One trashed the tv and kicked a social worker, he is 13 now and calming down, maybe if they found you had it early on in your life, maybe you wouldn't be as bad as you are. You have a great talent and it must be even more difficult with ADHD. I wish you all the best Rob, I admire you for opening up about your problem. Take Care.

Thank you for this video. I found out last year that I have this as well and just like you say, and are finding out everything falls in place. Everyday I find out new stuff and I go DANG thats why I _ _ _ fill in the blank. Its a bit horrifying and I'm constantly get hit with, why didn't someone else notice this.
The one that really annoys me, I get something, set it down and then I don't know where I set it. Spend hours looking for it. I've lost my wallet so many times I now take it out when I get home and it goes into a bowl right next to my keys. And yes I do eventually find it but its is so annoying. Thank you for talking about the anger thing cause OH M G that is me.
As you should finally learn, you are not alone there are many that have this and many more that they don't even know they have it.

I am unsure if I have ADHD, but I do have depression, with PTSD from being in the military (Army) I Have a caffeine overdose!!! 2x 2tlr jugs a day of fresh ground coffee. I do have a "short" temper for the simple things. I totally lost it as I forgot that I locked the toilet door, I then ripped the door off the hinges lol. So I may have ADHD but not sure best get myself checked out.

Think I have same thing. How you explain it that's me reading over and over hard to absorb what I read. fly off handle same way etc. I'm 62 . Noises , tried airbrushing the other day and the dog upstairs was walking and her nails on floor stopped me from doing my work. I couldn't concentrate . Plastic bags rustling around, crunching potato chips being eaten the crunching , same sound of what ever over and over sets me off. Crap man I'm same way in store as well getting groceries . There when store opens 7am so I don't have to deal with the bs Just in and out. My wife always says you are back already .Ha ha I know what I want before I go into store and get the hell out before it fills up with people . Maybe I should go see the ole Doc.I drive my wife crazy as well .Thanks for this video it gave me a piece of mind I'm not the only one . Can't wait to see the reaper painted on the bat wing.

I am 40 and got diagnosed at the beginning of the year. It’s gonna sound weird, music while I have a task going helps me focus. Usually it’s listening to heavy metal, classic rock, and hip hop. Something about the beats helps me… don’t know why, but it does. It’s very hard to deal with, was wondering what was going on my whole life, had the same situations as you going on. Finally talked with a doctor and got diagnosed and started medication. Good luck bud! You can get through this!

I’m 52 and just got diagnosed with non-hyperactive ADHD, after my son was first diagnosed with combined type ADHD (inattentive + hyperactive). The doctor said I’ve probably developed my own compensating strategies, but I now understand why maintaining focus was such a struggle.
Because I was never hyperactive, it never crossed my mind that I had it. I was smart at school, but always struggled to revise for exams, no matter how hard I tried…like a force field between my brain and just getting stuff completed. Any distraction would interfere with my objectives.
I wish I’d known sooner in order to avoid many wasted hours, stress and self-doubt in my abilities. Hoping my son walks a calmer path now he’s been diagnosed. The meds made a big difference from day one. He’s also learning other coping skills. I’ve just started on ADHD meds too, but the changes feel more subtle, so it will be a process to see what dosage is optimal for me. 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Good luck on your journey. Hope it works out and it’s never too late for others to seek help and get assessed if you’ve been struggling in a similar way!!!

caffeine does two things relevant to what you're saying, it causes the blood vessels to constrict reducing blood flow to the brain (can reduce the severity of migraines if taken when the aura appears) which may explain your leveling out, the other is caffeine is not a stimulant, it's a message blocker that prevents your brain from reacting to chemical messages from your body that your body is tired and needs rest, and you apparently, like my sister-in-law, metabolize the caffeine really fast, so it doesn't interfere with sleep (other than getting up to piss it out)

Great video…so much identification. Not diagnosed, but I too have struggled. From seeing it my family, to school, to my interactions with others, to addiction issues, to being in the creative industries and now having a spray shop (joinery) 😅
I have tried working on myself through groups which helps. But like you as I’ve got older it’s getting harder….time for a diagnosis. And I’m 52 😅
I’ve discovered streaming what I do while I work. It seems to have helped while I’m here.
Glad you made the video on here and not another channel. I might not have seen it 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

I was diagnosed in my 40's and was put on drugs. (A very low dosage of dexadrine) I'm sure it was to increase the dopamine level in my brain. I like to draw, airbrush, play guitar, golf, work on mechanical things and I'm an electronics technician. In other words, I like to create. When I was working full time I found that I didn't have time to be creative and that would eventually get me frustrated. I would have to get my guitar and sit down and practice. After some time I would be frustrated that I wasn't drawing...then I wasn't airbrushing...then I wasn't golfing...and so on and so on and so on. Practice takes patience and everything I like to do takes practice to become better. Unfortunately, patience is not one of my virtues. God grant me patience, and I want it now! lol When I was a kid my mom would walk into my bedroom and I had almost everything out of my toy box. "Why do you have all of your toys out of the toy box?" Because I was playing with it. ALL of it??? Yep
Although the drugs were helping me to focus, I didn't like the fact that I was doing a little speed every morning. So, I quit that crap.
When describing what it's like to have ADHD I describe it like this: You have 2 wheels spinning in your head at all times. One wheel is all the things you think about or want to do and it's hauling a$$. The other wheel is the "doing" wheel and it's moving MUCH slower. The drugs help you focus or concentrate on what you are doing by speeding up the "doing" wheel so that it's in sync with the "wanna be doing wheel". To this day it takes me a good 40 minutes to go to sleep. Trying to slow down that one wheel is the problem. So, I feel your pain Brother! I write all of this to let you know that there are tons of us out here with the same or similar symptoms. Your videos are therapy for me! Plus, you are so talented and make it look so easy and are an excellent teacher. Hang in there, You got this!

I appreciate your vulnerability with this. Being a creative with ADHD is a curse at times. Getting started with things, staying organized, finishing, finances etc all seem easy for everyone else. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and have been trying different medications but haven’t found one I particularly like. All of my symptoms are much like yours. The anger, frustration, occasional depression and sometimes crushing inability to stay on track. The gift of our profession is that there’s a lot of novelty. Always something new to try and tweak, perfect, or execute. I hope this next stage of life allows you to forgive yourself for the way you have behaved without knowing. We’re all doing the best with the information we have available to us, and thankfully there are people like you out there to help guide us.

It's all like being stuck in 2nd gear at 90 mph and yet 6 gears are available - down the motorway. Soooo tiring 💔💔
Noises, 'itching' in the brain? It's horrible, a roller coaster.
I can't be around anymore quacks either, diagnosis are okay, but that's exhausting. But I think I have ADHD plus OCD was diagnosed, reading over and over what I write because I can't read or write well.

Hey Rob, well I wasn't expecting that mate and I'm sorry to hear that you have ADHD, I don't know anyone with that condition but I can relate to many of the scenarios that you are experiencing especially the one where you go shopping, I always have to have a list and I have to stick to it get in there get it done and get out I normally go early in the morning when it's quiet as I hate crowds and I detest ques.
I was diagnosed with stress and depression about 20 years ago (I'm 64 now) and as you mentioned getting the meds regularly and in the right quantity is vital for me to get through the day as if I runout the withdrawals are horrendous if I miss more than 2 days I'm climbing the walls and having cold (and hot) sweats plus my nerves are jumping like I'm plugged into the mains and someone is switch it on and off constantly.
Anyway Rob I just can't imagine what you are going through and I really hope you get the meds you need to help you cope mate👌👍

You could not have chosen a better time for this bud. I have been through much the same and I too only last week had the same diagnosis and at 70 years old its like being hit with sledgehammer. As you say, your brain is working so hard that it seems that at times it says "ive had enough of this shit". I have even stayed away from art and the airbrush for a while and to be honest that makes it worse as guilt creeps in. At my age there is less in front of me than behind me and I am desperate to do what I want to do in terms of the airbrush. The problem I have found is that there is too much conflicting info about airbrushing out there and not too much in the way of honesty which is why I have stuck with your channel. Everyone around me is suffering because of this which is not right and has to stop. For ADHD there does not seem to be too much in the way of understanding out there. I dont know about you but it makes me feel so isolated and alone. So thank you Rob for having the guts to share this with us. My story frightens even me.

For me the bi-polar part is what I have the hardest time with, and having no time to finish the things I have to do, the way it's stuck in my head to do. My old lady had a drug over dose and passed away the very night I had picked her up from 3 months of rehab she passed away at the motel we were staying at, while me and our 5 yr old boy watched tv,she was in the bath tub. Anyways, it absolutely fried my mind to the point were I was put on a small truck load of meds I stayed in my house hiding from everyone for a little over 2 years. I'm doing better now, 4 years later, you seem like a pretty cool guy,a few words of advice from me would be to be very careful with meds. Best thing I did for myself was to get away from them and your right, pot is very helpful . I smoke quite a bit every day. Its a good thing. I hope you get the right help, from the right person,I'm semi retired so I work from home now if I'm not sleeping th day away so feel free to get I'm touch if you need to talk about this stuff, I would be happy to help if I can. I have a couple questions about my seals on my brushes, I m only use GSI Creos. Any how have a good day & I really hope you get to feeling better soon.

Hi Rob it's good to get things off your chest. I have a nephew with really bad ADHD don't know what medication he is on but it has done wonders for him. I also have a grandson with autism and i see a lot of me in him. We all need to speak out like you have in this video. Kept this comment short as possible. I hope to have a good conversation with you next time we cross paths.stay safe good friend.

I was diagnosed at 48 (4 years ago) made so much sense to me once diagnosed.
I think the saddest thing is the statistics that by the age of 10 a child with ADHD HAS 10,000 more negative comments than a child without. I was always told ‘girls don’t behave like you do!’ And it’s true girls didn’t. I was called a ‘Tom boy’ as well as a ‘pain in the arse’
Diagnoses started a chain. I also have autism. The best way to explain autism is like martial arts belts. It goes from white to black. I’d say I’m a yellow belt.😂
A lot of ADHD people also have EDS or hyper mobility and explains all the joint pain.
I hope the diagnosis helps you. It has helped me understand myself and change my thinking. Meds helped enormously but the change in thinking is what helped the most.

Depends on severity but rarely snap takes a lot to make me angry, I just do too many things and never finish tasks..eg many multiple art hobbies, printing, 3d printing, games, board games, programming it. Then i buy stuff and never use it after fixating and researching on it

I'm an artist also and I got it. Your talk sounds like your talking about my nightmare also. I've done some research and discovered most all great artist In history had this disease. God graced with the talent to be an artist but there is a correlation between this disease and being of an artistic mind. I lose alot of sleep from the racing mind until a point I crash

hey rob i can relate so much to it .. i wanted to comment earlier. Have you listened to osho ? if not maybe give it a try ,,it has helped me alot .. i mostly listen the hindi ones and has barely watched english one but i thinks its same ..its just i feel more connected when i see hindi. But i strongly reccomend , it has baught this stopness to the mind racing .. i dont know if thats a word "stopness" 😅.. yeah i use green reguraly and people around me in the starting had trouble understanding that i am self medicating that why its so hard for me to quit it .. 😢
