Hi Chris, so glad to see this video on elbow injury prevention. I unfortunately have the elbow pain & serious injury on the inside of my right elbow and I am a right handed golfer. Have you seen this injury and swing causes. I have had to take 8-10 weeks off at a time and a recent MRI showed a tendon tear on the inner right elbow. I would really appreciate getting any additional tips on how to prevent this and see what I could be doing wrong in my swing Thanks Jim
I should have had this great advice two years ago... ...since I take care on the left elbow, I enjoy hitting hundreds of balls a day, without any elbow issues! Thank you very much, that you are highlighting this highly valuable theme for the golf community!
Great video! So happy that you elaborated on how the lead elbow toward the target line naturally squares the club face at impact. I was always taught that when setting your grip on the handle "palms to the sky" or "give blood."
First let me say great video series on preventing injuries! Kudos to the whole Rotary Swing team. I've been a premium member for a few weeks now and have been working hard on overhauling my swing for more consistency and hopefully lower scores. Unfortunately I strained the intercostal muscles in the right side of my rib cage while doing the RST drills on the driving range and was advised by doctors to take 4 to 6 weeks off from golf. Absolutely frustrating! I'd be very interested to know what is causing this injury and what I need to watch out for once I'm healed and well enough to start hitting balls again. Thanks in advance and more power!
+Butch San Agustin Hey Butch, sorry for any delay in response and very sorry to hear that you sustained an injury. We will do all that we can to make sure that you swing the golf club in the safest way possible so that this sot of stuff does not happen again. Can you get us some video of your golf swing both face on and down the line so we can take a close look at what may be causing you these problems? Let me know if you are interested in us taking a look and I will gladly do so. - Chris Tyler
+RotarySwing.com Golf Instruction Hi Chris, thanks for your response and offer to have a look at my swing. I haven't been swinging the golf club in the last 4 weeks (due to doctor's orders) but do have a few videos uploaded on your website from my previous swing analyses. Let me know if that works but if there's a better way to get the videos to you directly please advise.
in ben hogan's 5 lessons, he talks about turning the elbows under at address, which keeps the forearms together, sounds like this is a cause of golfer's elbow?
Hello i ruptured my bicep playing golf im 61 and classic symptoms occurred. Heard the pop around the world. Excruciating Pain through 18 holes. Next week massive bruising on forearm on inner elbow. Have full range in my arm, no pain except the common aching associated while healing, but fully functional. I was throwing football the next day with no pain at all. I do have reverse popeye deformity. About 20% loss in power, palm down to palm up. I do not want the surgery. Can i still play golf, without having the surgery? I have been using my right arm to push the club, and want to correct that, but to think i cant play golf again is troublesome. Is there any gud news for me? Are there excercizes i can do to strenghten for playing gold with this arm?
Golfers elbow for a right handed golfer is on the inside (medial) of the right elbow. Change your title of your program. What you are addressing is tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitus).
Fantastic explanation as to why. Makes sense. The only part mathematically that I don’t understand is you mention 800 to 1500 degrees of rotation. If you swing your club in a complete circle, that would be 360 degrees. Can you explain that to me?
This looks about right, and I hope so, because my elbow is almost to the point where I can't even practice. Been getting worse over the years too, it's not new. I'm going to completely commit myself to this video. If this works it honestly may the difference between me being able to play and practice again, or basically having to give up golf.
Interesting, also body rotation is a bigger muscle motion mover. If rotation is slowing the arm will extend as well. And you will instinctively rotate the whole arm.
Great video! I’m really fighting the hook because I’m anticipating the impact on my golf swing due to my golfers elbow, I think my shoulders and bigger muscles in the upper body take over and I end up pulling my shots. Help! Aside from aiming right, How do I compensate?
I have elbow pain exactly where you point to on the lead arm, but my pain is always on the backswing. I feel a jolt in my elbow every time I go back and hinge, and this pain has been with me for a year. It couldn't hurt to try this drill, but I wonder if my issue is different.
I know very little about the mechanics in tennis so tough for me to answer. I know that in golf, this will keep you from going into a hyperextended arm position.
Great video! Very few instructors are addressing this! The only problem is that my golfer's elbow is on the back arm! I've worked out that the greatest pain is at the top of the backswing when my right thumb presses into the club to initiate and accelerate the downswing. I am right-handed.
New video coming out on this topic in the next 48 hours. Hopefully it helps you understand the cause and helps you overcome the issue. Good luck and let me know if you need any further help - Chris Tyler
Chris, thank you. 10 weeks ago I had reconstructive surgery on my left elbow due to 40 plus years of destroying my poor body as a welder and metal fabricator. I had been an avid golfer 25 years ago but had to stop to be a father of an elite Ice Hockey player. now he has taken up golf, and I was just released by my Dr. to start swinging the club again. the 25 yr. break actually did me good, as I'm hitting the ball better than ever. I need to however learn proper technique to avoid injury as it hurts longer than before.
Chris,. I have recently damaged my lead elbow exactly like you describe in this video. My question is...how far into the release should the elbow face the target before the arm folds? Thanks so much for this explanation and how to prevent future injury! It is killing me staying home doctoring my elbow waiting to heal.
Hey Tom, sorry to hear about your injury. I know how frustrating that can be. The lead elbow should face down the target line into impact and then post impact, you can allow it to rotate as normal. Just make sure you aren't over using the right side when doing this as it can still cause stress on the joint. There are a couple of videos on the website that will help you, lose the right hand and LADD videos. Hope that helps and good luck with your recovery. - Chris Tyler
Throwing too hard with the trail arm, it's the wrist, not the arm that creates the release speed: rotaryswing.com/c4/112564-the-goat-release-intro-endless-conveyor-belt
@@Rotaryswing I would completely agree with you, but in my case, my pain started recently when I started using strictly my left/lead side to drive the swing. My game has skyrocketed in consistency using this method but I leave each game with bad trail elbow pain

You're overusing your right arm, you need to go through the sequence of videos that walk you through the DEAD Drill so you learn how to start using your body and left side more.
This has the added benefit of assisting the path of the hands and club head move inside and up because the lead elbow is already slightly bent, but "anatomically" straight. Spieth, Westwood, Goosen, Koepka etc.
There are many components to ways to treat tennis elbow. One place I discovered which succeeds in merging these is the Freds Elbow Helper (check it out on google) without a doubt the most useful blueprint that I have ever heard of. Check out all the incredible information .
After 6 months left elbow pain suffering, once I follow your guide, I can enjoy painless golf game again.......👍🏾thank you so much
This should be taught to every beginner in their first few lessons! This makes so much sense and helps me understand why my elbow hurts.

For me it is the opposite. Not my lead but my right tricep and shoulder.
Same here. I was able to reduce the pain on the right arm by NOT trying to Draw the ball. I couldn't Draw the ball to begin with so no Great loss. 😅
Wondered if there was a solution for right arm tendonitis. I get pain both sides!
Yes cormac I'd like to see a solution for the right arm tendonitis as well. Mine has come back after 17 years and nothing I try seems to help.

Golfers elbow not in lead arm
ruclips.net/video/OALIv7xhwSU/видео.html&ab_channel=RotarySwing.comGolfInstruction
This is not golfers elbow. This is tennis elbow.
Only Tennis elbow doesn't show up in your left elbow if you're a right handed tennis player.
when you're swinging your arm , it is actually extrernally rotating , not internally rotating . c'mon , get it right
Piss off man
Main fix...
Stop playing golf. 😄
