V8stealthbeetle Episode 16 The finishing line is in sight looks at the the long development phase. We can start to see that the finishing line is in sight. Still a few hurdles to jump but she is looking beautiful. See how far Jean has come with this project and just how far he still has to go. Great visuals of the car on the road and in the workshop

Looks and sounds amazing wheel fitment is perfect. I cant imagine the beautiful sounds it makes inside the cockpit.

I have been really enjoying your videos since I discovered them recently. I have been fascinated by cars since I was a toddler riding in my dad's car strapped into a child seat that had a steering wheel but my first car was a 1959 Beetle so I have some special memories.

Hi Skunk works, thanks for the comments. We're getting there slowly with the numbers but it takes time to build a following. Yes an oval window bug would be the ultimate. Finding a body, in any condition is difficult, especially here in South Africa where we are. When we do one I don't thing the gulf stripe would suit it... maybe a subdued olive green ...?

Very well done. There were some mid engnined beatles in the past, but those were build in the 80ties. No aluminium spaceframe for them. ;)
Looking awesome guys! And sounding awesome too! The fact the car weighs under 1kg is crazy... but it is easy to forget that the original Beetle itself was always a light car. So any increase in power makes a huge difference. Best of luck with the final jobs and getting the other Bug ready for August!
Btw I loved that old white Jetta that was in background during filming outside your HQ. Not many of them left here in the UK. I wonder what a V8 conversion would be like on one of those 😉

So glad that I hadnt come across this build until this video. Before watching it, I went to Episode 1 and have just got back to this one, after watching them all. It would have been sooo frustrating to have to wait for each episode.
To say this engine sounds sweet is such an understatement.

The chassis is a magnificent structure. The incorporation of Audi engine, BMW suspension and modern electronics inspired. Im not sure the turbos are really necessary but then again I've asked Ultimate for a lighter weight 2 litre which they were not really interested in. I cannot imagine the development costs over the 2 years. Jean must have had plenty of other business to support it.

Nice engine choice for vw beetle; it is interesting to note that vw is the parent co. of audi.
This car is awesome! If I were to spec one I would shave the front trunk latch, shave the rain drip "gutters", paint the headlight bezels body color, re-engineer the door hinges to hide them, eliminate the air vents on the cowl & rear valence, and use Fuchs replica wheels.

Nah, french the lights if you want to go clean, and update them with modern light interior. And if you want to go modern, use trimless windows for more pro-touring style. Personally I'd choose the older slanted lights, vintage rear lights and oval window for a more old school look.
Beetles are great, there are so much variety of body styles and such a plethora of parts available!

Sure, it's no park walk to be a custom builder, you always have to go that extra mile.
The mods Calvin suggested are prety common tricks on the custom beetle scene.
Anyhow, what I would really love to see is this monstrocity of yours in Volks-Rod version (Fenderless hot rod style)
Considering the weight of the vehicle you may want to consider a narrower tire for better traction. More weight per square inch = better traction. This will also make it look more like a beetle. Wider/larger tires in the rear also effect steering and will tend to give you a little more side to side wobble/instability. Was it hopping? Just trying to figure the tire choice out. Looking cool does not always give the stability your looking for.
Hope/maybe I've been of some help. After you have a few of these on the road a few years I may be interested in one. Please keep the updates coming. If it has a number plate as a beetle in the US it would be easy to get a title. It would definitely pass the emissions requirement for those years/models.
If your not getting a comfortable feeling driving the car (instability), please look into what I am suggesting. You may be quite surprised.

The VW beetle is the most iconic and the most beautiful car ever built. The revamp of the beetle in the 90s did not do justice to the original shape.
Would active rear suspension that stiffened under hard acceleration improve traction ?

A traction control system would help get power to the ground better. Maybe something to consider.
I wonder wich steering rack Jean choose to the project, since he show all the OEM parts he used in the suspension and the powertrain. I miss he talking about this particular part. Other than that, I'm following you guys since the first episode and I just want to congratulation you guys for the amazing creation.

This is amazing! Love it. BUT you need a roll cage in this, as it is its a death trap and all this performance is useless if you cant use or explore it. Complete this with a proper cage and it will be perfect, and you will still be alive to keep making things like this.

Do a KOMBI next. This would look better with a rear wing( in my opinion) but what the ultimate sleeper
the installed running boards will certainly complete the natural flow of the car's design....as to the price, i think the base price of USD 85000.00 is a bargain for the car you're getting which, once the grip for the power is sorted out, will smoke vettes, porsches et al......will you be putting out a video of the finished product once they are able to start work on it again?
The radiator air scoop looks i bit vulnerable. Maybe it should be as tough as a sump guard ?
I'm curious to see how much sound damping is needed on the firewall and engine cover to make the cockpit noise bearable. As fantastic as that engine sounds, it won't be a usable vehicle if you must shout to be heard over the powerplant.

This is a pretty cool project @v8stealthbeetle. Really well done. Will you stick to the Audi 4.2 V8s, or are the V6s still going to be an option for clients? This thing would be an absolute screamer with the 2.5 liter 5 cylinder in the RS3, with the entire drivetrain flipped 90 degrees. :)
Doug Foulkes that should be pretty good. Opens up lots of options for parts & tuning too. Can't wait to see the first of that lot on the road.

Such a great build, shame about that yellow GT stripe though, almost as bad as attaching a WRX bonnet scoop to a non turbo car. Would have shown a lot more class just silver and without painting the wheel centers black. I think its going to need some big aero to hold that rear down.

so you have to feel what is doing before adding boost. so what's the boost now . I'm guessing 7 to 10 pounds.

Since he mentioned he forgot to convert into pounds(lbs). It's 900kgs = 1,984.16lbs. Still pretty light for a cool ride. And if i had the moola i'd commission for a left hand drive one.
