I remember when eating plant based meant you ate foods that didn’t come with an ingredient list, food from the earth, it was more about health. I used to explain as a vegan I eat Oreos, but a person on a plant based focus diet wouldn’t. Though it is positive that the food market is thinking about how can they can compete with the non-vegan options, if that means hiding the word vegan on the back I’m good with that!
Absolutely agree that we need a legal definition of "plant based". Here in NZ we had "100% plant based nuggets" that contained cow's milk and a butter and steak TV advert that claimed its products are plant based because their cows eat grass 😡
Another awesome first Nicole video of 2025. I have been vegan for 9 years and I always try to eat vegan whole plant foods the majority of the time with a few ultra processed foods. I wouldn't eat hybrid products. Love 🥰 the video and love 💕 Nicole.
I imagine we'll see more and more pushback, annoying narratives and misinformation. But it's all part of longer term growth. My main worry is just more generally businesses will struggle badly, and so many vegan companies, cafes, restaurants are small businesses that might not survive the year. Hope we see vegan events keep going and growing though. I really want to make more vegan friends this year. Good luck for 2025 and happy new year!
ABSOLUTELY! the misinformation is a real frustration. we see it everywhere these days! completely agree, regarding vegan businesses. over the last year we saw a few switch to serving some meat too which i thinks hugely frustrating but also a real ethical dilemma.... is it better to support a business that's introduced meat (to try and stay afloat) but is 80% vegan? or let them go out of business and be replaced by a kebab shop or burger king?
Eat to live vegan taking over plant base i from the old school I been vegan before it all of yall since 1985 yall babies lol but just eat the rite thing thank u for the video if I ever come over at least we will have somewhere to eat..let's go
just as a point an its own i find the term plant based absolutely enraging 😭 it makes things confusing and it just sounds silly to me, im sure nobody would use it this way but a bowl of chips with dairy cheese and bacon on top is plant-based, it just doesn’t scream 100% safe, but its more frustrating if a restaurant uses it instead of the vegan symbol because you can’t turn it over and check
my aunt had a butter at hers which she thought i could have bc it had 'plant proteins' or something on the packaging... double checked and it contained butter milk! of course, they didn't use the term 'plant based' but i think just adding 'plant' anything creates confusion and the illusion of being 'vegan'. thankfully she didn't cook me anything using it but god, it's gonna get confusing for people out there!
Genuinely curious. What are your thoughts about substituting all these animal products (like fur and feathers) with synthetic materials that don't bio-degrade?
Veganism is solely about animal rights. Any environmental benefit is only a plus. If you’re doing it for the environment then it’s plant based. As for your question. I’d weigh up the environmental impact of the fur and feather industries against the impact of the non bio degradable alternatives. Whilst also keeping in mind the cruelty of the fur and feather industries.
think it's a really interesting question! personally, find there's enough second hand clothing on this planet that we don't really need anything new whether that's from an animal or synthetic. i think the quality and environmental impact of vegan alternatives def need to improve - it's all on it's way!
it can feel that way! i think bc i've been vegan since 2007 it feels different... i've seen us grow WAYYYY beyond my wildrest dreams. we're so fast growing, but we're still in our early stages!
Bring on phasing out animal testing 🙌🙌 one thing about cultured meat - could represent a new way for animal ag to continue operating on black market? Also, it could mean that going back to eating real meat is less of a big deal mentally for some people. Especially abroad where PB diets are harder to find
The word 'plant-based' on food products, makes more sense to me than the word 'vegan'. Hybrid products - weird, don't like it, even if I ate meat I wouldn't like it.
@@VeganBeautyGirl because it's food products, altho 'Simply Plants' might be even better, than 'vegan' or 'Plant based.'🙂I just like the word 'plants' more than 'vegan'.
You say veganism is on the rise? What about non-veganism. 140 million babies will be born this year, 135.8 million to non-vegan parents, this will ensure veganism will never become the default standard for humans.
things change all the time. the climate crisis is likely to be a real accelerator of the changing habits towards a plant based diet or the swap to cultivated meat.
Only thing i dont understand is… isnt it better to kill 1 grass fed cow per year, than kill millions of small animals from pesticides etc?? Less animal suffering?
No. “Grass-fed” is not a regulated term, and all cows are fed some amount of grass, that has to grown in a field and be harvested and preserved for off seasons (killing critters in the process.) Grass-fed only requires more land and produces more methane, Earthling Ed has some videos on this, Our World in Data has graph that disprove this argument. Vegan diets have been shown to produce less greenhouse gases, use less resources, and create less biodiversity loss, plus they also lower the risk of zoonotic diseases outbreaks all which help animals far more. (Source: oxford Study on Vegan, Vegetarian, Dietary Impacts.) Additionally, all necessary nutrients can not be gained from “one cow per year.” Stop spreading misinformation.
Your point would be more suitable for 100% grass fed/ grass finished. Most grass feds are around 70% grass fed. Apart from that, even for grass finished, in winter there is still grass being grazed because animal won’t be able to eat grass naturally in winter time so it’s collected beforehand. That collection process does kill smaller animals. So that’s every winter. Other death causing factor is land clearance which is one and done but a large amount of land in one being cleared to plant grass there so many small animals would die when that is done. But it doesn’t need to continuously be cleared, so once done, it’s fine but that 1 time has a large amount of death.

that’s ridiculous 😭 i fear ‘plant’ is the new green washing
The vegan direction is unstoppable.
Another win for the animals is the UK government banning trail hunting 👍🏽
YES!
👍
I'm happy that they have banned trail hunting but the government will never ban eating meat.
@@FreddieAl agreed! which is why cultivated meat is so exciting. it can be a animal-free, slaughter-free way of making meat.
@VeganBeautyGirl
I can't see it replicating the texture, aroma and taste of a good beef steak.

Job title suggestion: Vegan Educator ?
it reminds me too much of 'that vegan teacher' who's one of the worst things to happen to our movement!

I get so depressed about veganism it seems like we will never have enough people siding with us to make the numbers matter.

In my experience they’re the same thing although I have seen honey in “plant based” bars but never dairy
yes i agree!
I've seen dairy in "100% plant based nuggets"
