    I was at Knebworth so kinda have a strong connection with that one, especially as its one of the last with John (Bonzo) Bonham on drums
    BUT
    Celebration Day with John's son, Jason who steps in for his late father on drums absolutely does his dad proud and they add alot more of a Middle-East inflection on the vocals. And don't for 1 second think that because they're older they don't produce Led Zeppelin level of awesomeness!

    This has been sampled many times by various artists. Plus, the riff is often used at sporting games, etc. You’ll love the live versions too. You should check out How Many More Times from their television debut in 1969 for Denmark radio. It shows you how much talent they had from the start. ruclips.net/video/wEPog_WdPE4/видео.html

    Nice reaction and a lot to say: This song was inspired by middle Eastern rhythms and a trip that Page and Plant took through the African desert while traveling to a music festival in Morrocco. This song has been sampled a lot, especially Puff Daddy's song "Come with Me" which Jimmy Page plays on. For the live versions I like Celebration Day. While the three surviving members were around 60 years old, this performance shows that elders can still rock and mean it. This was not three "has beens" reliving their glory days. These are three musicians who can still put on a powerful, mesmerizing show. IMO Plant's voice sounds as good or better than ever. Jason Bonham also shines on the drums. I'm sure his father is proud.

    • @TheRandalltex
      @TheRandalltex 2 года назад

      "Puff Daddy's song "Come with Me" which Jimmy Page plays on."
      Ya got that backwards my friend.
      Puff released "Come With Me" as a single of his own, but actual song writing credits go to Page, Plant, Bonham, Combs, Curry.
      In that order.
      Primary songwriters are always listed chronologically relative to their contribution.
      Cheers

    You should definitely react to the 2007 reunion of them doing Kashmir at the Celebration Day Show with John Bonham's son, Jason, playing drums. It was magical and they showed that they still had the power and talent that made them famous. They were still in top form...AMAZING!

  • @henriettaskolnick4445

    Glad you're feeling better. You are correct; they had both horns and strings session musicians play on this song. As far as live goes, it's hard to say. In 1979/Knebworth, it's all 4 and they kill it. In Celebration Day, they're in their late 50s/early 60s (except for Jason who's in his 40s at the time) but they STILL kill it. Do BOTH! HA! And *really* get your Zep on! 😄

  • @pcogs212
    @pcogs212 2 года назад +6

    Great reaction!! Either Knebworth or O2 is worth watching....hell both of them are. I just want to comment that you mentioned Bonham's drumming. And unlike so many other bands, that's the thing with Zeppelin....all four members were equal parts of an even greater whole. Page may have formed the band but all four ARE the band. That's why when Bonham died they just couldn't go on...no one could replace that quarter of the band. Thankfully, even without him we have their musical legacy for the ages.

    This song came to Plant in a dream while driving through the Sahara in Morocco. He woke up with the whole song, fully formed. Freaked the rest of the band out. Kashmir is a disputed kingdom split between India and Pakistan. Half Muslim, half Hindu. The Hindu ruler chose India in '47, and it's been a low-level war ever since. There are several excellent live versions, including one with an orchestra and Jason Bonham on drums.

    Definitely do the 1979 performance even though O2 is great, it’s not the full band because obviously Bonham isn’t there. There’s also some great live performances of this song from 1975 when it was released on the legendary double album Physical Graffiti, which is IMO their greatest one . When you get the chance you should react to some early zeppelin, they were fire from the beginning lol. You should react to this, it’s a song called “how many more times” from the first album that they performed regularly in the early days. Here they’re playing at a danish high school of al places and the kids are blown away and have no idea at first what they’re experiencing. ruclips.net/video/wEPog_WdPE4/видео.html

    You might have heard the intro played by Puff Daddy, or whatever his alias was at the time. He even had a performance with Jimmy and Robert once. But, the familiarity aside, the big thing about this song is that it is loved especially by girls. Seems that Kashmir does something to girls, what guys do not understand. Can you guess what it is? Watching your reaction I saw that you caught it and even complained that the song ending so soon.
    P.S. Celebration Day performance was OK, good even, but it no longer had that magic. Nor was it in 1979 live performance, something was gone. Funny thing, I heard a Japanese string quartet trying to recreate that very Kashmir moment, still...

    Great choice Ari, their studio versions are almost always better and the definitive version of most of their songs. They are a great live band but looser and often doing improv in the middle of songs, always worth hearing But in the studio only the Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix and the WHO are in the same magnificent category for Classic Rock. Try to listen to their albums from the start when you can, you won't know how good these guys were until you do. Live stuff is tons of fun and can grow a tune into something more. Studio though is where they shine beyond almost anyone. Great reaction today, the live version in 79 is my favorite. Thanks again, you are a bright spot in my day! 😊

    There aren't many songs that will elicit from me--EVERY TIME--either tears at the beauty of the sound (e.g., the sax in Bruce Springsteen's "Jungleland") or tingles that use my spine as a race track (e.g., the guitar in Boston's "Long Time"), but this is one of them. In this case it's Robert Plant's voice, and it happens every time I hear this one particular part (4:55 of your video). If I had the sound off I'd still be able to tell when it happened just by your reaction! :)

    Despite road trips, I don't think anyone in the band had been near Kashmir (still a massive bone of contention between India and Pakistan to this day). Not that it matters. This is a romanticism rather than any attempt to capture reality and that's really what the band were best at. Interestingly, Plant's vocals sound particularly hoarse on the studio version, but he gives it both guns in the 1979 live performance!
