I think you'd enjoy "Run to You." No instruments in that one. In fact, there is also no lead singer and there are no solos. There isn't even any percussion! "Run to You" is in glorious five part harmony throughout, and you can hear each voice distinctly. It was written by Avi and Kevin, and it's another sad song about a troubled relationship. And it also contains, in my opinion, the most beautiful harmonies Pentatonix has ever produced.
Kevin is one ridiculously talented guy, firstly his beatboxing, playing the cello or celloboxing as he calls it, and then he comes out with that beautiful voice..Gold by kiiara (cover) next please.
Kirstie is brilliant as the lead, her voice is beautiful, well, they are all great, as always. I do have a thing for Avi’s voice, though, and this reminds me of his outstanding cover of “Lean on me”.
Kevin is a master cellist and appears in a number of their videos. He's a genius. There is that moment, at the end of a relationship, when you desperately want to believe there's still a chance, when you wish your partner would fight for you and the relationship. And that moment of clarity comes when you realize it's gone forever.
Thanks for an insightful reaction to this somewhat heartrending song. I really consider this an upgrade to the original. Kirstie's lovely soaring notes, Avi's soulful verse, and Kevin's perfect accompaniment with the cello and beatboxing is wonderful. And then there's the static vignette aspect of everyone posing in one place and staying still...quite a feat for Scott who loves to sing with his whole body... just adds to the piquant melancholy of the lyrics and melody.
They wanted this video to be like a photo and most are still. Scott's hands are holding the chair as hard as he could. Kirstin (all i) is her Official social media name. She does go be Kirstie like Thirsty with the band and the Pentaholics. This was an early video and Scott wanted to put Kirstie in the middle and focus on her. Kevin, the Celloboxing can also sing with perfect pitch. He also graduated from Yale University pre-med before Scott snatched him away to join PTX.
Hello Saeed. I am really enjoying your Pentatonix reactions, and it is nice to see you discovering them and enjoying their talent. They are spectacular. I do hope that you go through their entire catalogue of over 200 songs - covers and originals, studio recordings and live performances. Thanks for this reaction. Thanks for your commentary. See you on the next one.
Hi Meg, Thank you so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I am enjoying this journey and am excited for many more Pentatonix songs. Have a wonderful day.
One thing is guaranteed, PTX can always be counted on to put emotion behind whatever they perform. The cry in Kirstin’s voice is so pretty and moving, and Avi really feels into his lead as well. They are all in the moment, and that isn’t easy when filming a video of a recorded version of a song. I always assume they are generally actually singing when they do this, even though I know sometimes it’s just mouthing the words and acting like singing, like in their video for their original song, “Run to You” where they actually learned how to mouth the words backwards so it looked like petals were falling up around them. They still managed to give me chills with their emotional expressions. I’m always amazed how much of a whole package they really are, each one extraordinarily gifted vocalists/musicians in multiple genres, plus Kevin, Matt, and Scott occasionally show their skills as instrumentalists, (Mitch plays piano sometimes, too, on his solo stuff but I don’t think he’s ever played on a PTX track). They all write and arrange music, and some of them have theater backgrounds (Kirstie has been on Broadway, Scott has co-written two musicals, and Kirstin Scott and Mitch all did theater as kids), and on top of all their talents, they are also kind and admirable humans who consider sharing their music a vocation. Also, not to be shallow, but let’s face it, they are all also ridiculously good looking, lol.
All of them is ridiculously talented. We Pentaholics really appreciate you. This is so good because it has been Pentatonixed😂. Greetings from South Africa
I enjoy your reactions, they're so insightful. And you're absolutely right, the same song can hit differently based on life and experience. This song hits hard, though. Kirstie's voice almost crying this song, Kevin's cello and his beautiful voice closing out the song, Avi's part and all the harmonies... just perfect.
It used to be a general rule that any time Pentatonix used instruments you would see the instruments in the video. That rule was still true when this was recorded, but since late 2022 it has no longer been reliable. So what happened in 2022, you ask? Two things: 1. A PTX Christmas album named "Holidays Around the World," which had as its theme collaborations with other artists from all over the world. 2. COVID travel restrictions. The collaborations on "Holidays Around the World" had to be done from a distance, electronically. And most of the artists they were collaborating with used musical instruments. Arguably the most important song on the album was "Prayers For This World." It had an entire string orchestra behind it, and none of those musicians were available to appear in the official video. Since then Pentatonix has appeared on _"Masked Singer"_ as "California Rolls," and _"Masked Singer"_ requires an instrumental backing track. Pentatonix regarded it as a challenge and rather enjoyed it. I expect that there will be more songs coming with instrumentals behind them.
Thanks for reacting to this one. This is my favorite version of this song. I'm not sure you noticed, but Kevin beatboxes while he plays the cello. It is something he perfected and I think he is the only one who can do it.😉
I am glad that I found your channel! As a Pentaholic it is always nice to come across a new reactor to this group. I really have enjoyed your reactions and your very thoughtful insight. You now have another member to your channel. I appreciate your very heartfelt commentary not only about the group but what the words of each song means to you.
I love how they keep it simple . But my favorite part would have to be the break down. All of them coming in one at a time...WOW. Kirstey is just incredible how she makes you feel everything with just her face and voice. Avi really is surprising with is part...so tender yet powerful.
I see your feelings as you listen. This song touched me. My life has brought to this feeling more than once. This video's production - liked the use of the sepia color as it brought the a feeling of having no hope. Their faces add force to the meaning. It's funny, every time I see this video my eyes water. LOL 😪
One of my favs from the original PTX with Avi and Kirsty stealing the show 💞💞 Yes Kirsty as in 'thirsty' lol Love your words of wisdom too Saeed. Avi just lets his heart speak in this.
Her name is Kirstin. Her nickname is Kirstie, which rhymes with thirsty (she hates it when people call her Kristin or Kristie). When they were 19 and were appearing on _"The Sing-Off,"_ she used Kirstie as her stage name and that continued for a few years afterwards. Lately, however, she's been using Kirstin as her stage name and I believe she prefers to keep her nickname for use only by close friends and family.
So young when they that show. I will keep in mind that she prefers her full name. Apologies for some of the video's already recorded. I do want to get to know them better. They are so good.
Thanks for the reaction. My favourite two covers of this song is by Jacob Banks and other is Kz Tandingan. You gotta check them out bro both amazing artists to with unique voices
Thank you so much for your thoughtful reaction. I agree that it is when you should speak up the most that it's the hardest. They actually wrote an original song (I believe Kirstie wrote most of it) called "Love Me When I Don't", which is all about that. It's a really good song, and it would be great to see your reaction to that.
Actually, especially in some of their more recent music, they do include background instrumentals. Don't let that fool you when you run into it. I think they do this to produce a more radio friendly sound.
You talked about PTX singing lyrics that we have heard over and over and then hearing then again you hear the message anew. I suggest you listen to "Imagine" . A powerful message but PTX brings a more current take on it and it becomes a whole new song. I am along for the journey.
All the first videos i uploaded without blurring were blocked as soon as i uploaded them. So many PTX fans suggested blurring or putting a stamp on the video.

What a talent!

His voice is amazing. Will have to check that cover out.

Yes, you described it perfectly.
💝 *There is something so special about a group, that can make you feel every lyric in the song, & is their amazing gift* 💝
Beautifully said.

Wonderful message and interpretation of this song. It is about communication.❤
Beautiful rendition.

you can literally see and hear her heart breaking
Sometimes, the best reaction is just listening and loving the music. They make you feel!!!
They really do. So powerful.
I love the way PTX stacks voices.
So good!

I've heard that Layne Stein of VoicePlay can do it, too, on the rare occasions when he breaks out the violin.
That is amazing talent!
Wow that's impressive! I will have to look for that! 🙂@@janeramirez8767
Kevin is a world class cellist who has performed at Carnegie Hall. He is also multi-lingual.
Wow!
Beautiful reaction thank you. ❤
Thank you so much ❤️
Nice interpretation Saeed!
Thanks so much, Ken!

LOVING your Pentatonix reactions!! Please check out Imagine and their originals Sing, Love Again, Happy Now, and Coffee in Bed 😊

Have not heard those. Thanks for letting me know about this.
Excited for PTX reactions from you, love them all so far. You should do Imagine, Kiss From a Rose, Bohemian Rhapsody (some of my favs). :)
Thank you. Bohemian Rhapsody reaction goes up in about an hour 😀

Recommend Todrick Hall’s Wizard Of Ahhs featuring Pentatonix.
Will check that one out. Thanks.
Kevin plays cello...
You should react to little drummer boy live by Pentatonix
Added that one to my list.
were they blocking you from the video? That's the only reason to make the video so that we can't even see it.
