I was feeling down on Vinyl windows as I think they tend to have a cheap MOJO. But this 5 minutes really helped me see their benefits. Thanks so much.
Thank you for watching
This 5-minute video was more honest and upfront than most of the consults we've had. Thank you for the info, Jeff! Wishing we lived in Houston :)
Thank you for watching. By the way, if you're looking for a great window company near you, please check out JeffsList.com
@@HoustonWindowExperts Already sent in my info, absorbing SO much from your channel! THANK YOU!
Great
Viwinco is a Pennsylvania window builder that I chose to install in a New Jersey shore home 2nd from the beach. I was concerned about salt spray during high winds so vinyl was my choice. You agree.
I watched most of your video's. You are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Thanks for all your help.
Jim
Jim, final does a terrific job and caustic environments. Good choice!
I am from New Hampshire and looking into double hung colonial windows and I done tons of research and was gunning for vinyl's but than I saw renewal Andersen and he told me vinyl's aren't good that I should go for Fibrex which is way better but way more expensive. I am seeing another company Rite windows and they selling Vinyl's and I am doing research on the difference of vinyl's replacement windows. Your videos really help me also saw before my appt yesterday about to be firm and not say yes because sale guy was a bit pushy. I am looking to replace my townhouse 21yrs. Not normal size windows and come with grids 63H x32 w . My responsible to get them or not and the windows are horrible I only been homeowner 1 yrs and 4 months they are terrible with latching and opening and closing and insulation for warmth from the winter and heat. I almost had appointment with pella but I learned they too are high end windows so I only need one high end company other I see what they have to say before I make my decision. I am seeing company called United Home expert and they do Marvin windows which is another high end brand too. My main reasons is better insulation and easy to open and close and low maintance a view isn't necessary since my back as the the woods and front just trees and townhouses & stay there 15 yrs. Any suggestion for first time buying replacements windows?
Have you checked out JeffsList.com yet? I always prefer avoiding the big brand high pressure guys. You'll be much happier if you do.
Hey Jeff I love your channel and watched almost every video. My name is Zack LaRoy and I live in Monroe county Michigan. I had originally ordered Pella lifestyle windows and I liked the look/durability of them. The windows were supposed to arrive 4/4 but I was notified they are being delayed 5 months. Do I order sunrise vinyl windows and get them in 3 weeks or wait the 5 months? Are lifestyle windows worth the wait on holding up construction of my house for 7 months due to not being able to drywall/siding
Zack, thank you for watching and your question. I'd suggest looking into Windsor wood windows as an alternative to Pella. The Sunrise windows are vinyl and that's really a whole different product.
If product material is not important, I'd suggest go for the vinyl instead. Waiting five months will be very costly in terms of completion of your project.
That's a tough call...
We have listened to several of your videos and thank you for the education. We live outside of Boston , do you know anyone in the area?
Thank you for watching. Please email our office, they may have someone in your area that we can recommend. info@houstonwindowexperts.com
what do you know about NT windows......also I have read that fiberglass windows have no weep holes....consequently they leak pretty bad
Hi Jeff, thank you for your awesome channel!
Any thoughts on Sunrise Windows? I got a quote from a local contractor here (New Jersey) and I am not sure about the brand Sunrise. Do you have any experience with them?
They are a good product. Some other brands are as good for a better price but overall I like them.
If you're looking for a great window company near you, I may know someone I can recommend. Please check out JeffsList.com
@@HoustonWindowExpertsOK great! Yes, I already checked out JeffsList, but it appears my particular zip code didn't generate a match. Thank you for your videos, I feel much more confident about this whole process now.
Great! If you locate a window company that you love, please let me know.
It seems that the majority of the window replacement companies in my area only use Plygem. Do you know if they are any good? Thanks! All of your videos have been super helpful!
Thank you for watching and your question. I think that PlyGem is ideal for low cost builder type windows. I'd try to go up a step or two if available.
What are your thoughts on the ProVia Ensure series and the Alliance Belmont series windows?
I don't really know anything about this. I wish I could be of more help.
My builder ordered Ply Gem 1100 series for our home. My contract called for Low E366. The windows I received are Low E-SC. From what I read it is only 2 heavy coats of low e. A good SHGC of 0.23, VT is 0.43 and U factor of .35. I can't get an answer from Ply Gem if these are comparable to E366. I guess what I'm asking is are these windows any good?
I have learned so much from watching your videos and I thank you for sharing your knowledge with everyone.
Thank you for watching. It appears to have a good shgc but it achieved it at the cost of poor VLT. (Visible light transmission). In other words, it performs well but it's darker than the 66% VLT that Cardinal glass offers.
Would the low esc 2 thick layers be comparable to 366 3 layers.
I'm not sure.
Does anyone make an aluminum exterior with a vinyl (or fiberglass) interior? that would seem like a good combination of premium looks without the maintenance of a wood interior.
I'm not aware of anyone doing that right now.
I'm in Louisiana and I have to replace my windows due to Hurricane Ida. Sears came and they use Windsor. Do you have any reviews on Sears Installation?
Hi, are you sure it was Windsor? Last I heard they were using WinCore.
As far as installation, it will be a difficult thing for me to predict. Since they use all subcontractors, it's going to vary widely between crews.
I'd just tell them you are very picky and want the best crew.
If you're interested in seeing if we know someone in your area, please check out JeffsList.com
In Florida seems Windsor and AMSCO are not available and local Pella not returning my calls. Any other suggestions? For premium vinyl?
Greg, please email our office, they may have someone in your area that we can recommend.

Hi Jeff. What do you think of Okna enviro star 7000 series or Starmark Evo vinyl windows?
Sorry, but I'm not familiar with those products specifically.
We are in southern weather in Virginia. Thinking about Aluminum vs Fiberglass windows. I will love your input to decide?
If you get a high performance aluminum window frame, you should be okay pretty much anywhere in the country. However, if you do have cold winters, you will experience more cold transmission from the outside to the inside with an aluminum window then you wet any other type.
@@HoustonWindowExperts WE do have moderate snow in winter . can you recommend some specfic models.
I wish your store was close by
I would look into the Quaker product line. Another one to check out would be Western window systems. We may know a great window company near you. If you haven't already, go check out JeffsList.com
Marvin fiberglass are amazing!
Hi Jeff, How do you compare vinyl with fibrex. Will vinyl get melt under Texas heat over time?
Check out this video.
ruclips.net/video/HwZ5IQGb9UU/видео.html
What do you think, opinion on Pella 250 series? Or Pella Impervia? sp?
I love the Impervia. The 250 is good but very bulky.
Is it correct to say when they said life time warranty, depending on the State, it's "x" years. In Texas, life time warranty is 7 years. Can you confirm? This is what I learned from "Renewal by Andersen" rep yesterday during their demo. RBA's warranty is 20 years. Thx.
That's a load of BS. They use that line at every appointment and it's not true.
In regards to Reason #4 - Durability: I live in AZ = HOT and DRY. I'm planning a new build where the front/back will face east/west, respectively. I want a true black framed window, interior and exterior. Wouldn't vinyl, even premium grade, warp and fade in the prolonged direct sunlight? I'm thinking fiberglass (Pella Impervia) would be better for my house due to it's location. Am I correct?
Impervia is excellent. I'd not them, try Amsco Restoration Series. It's not painted black, it's a capstock.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I just called AMSCO today and they pulled out of AZ :-(
Fiberglass or Fibrex (Renewal By Anderson), they are not cheap though.
So does this info stated mean that vinyl will fade and or warp in a east west house setting?
All window materials will fade at some rate in direct sunlight.
The better the window, the slower they will fade.
Who do you guys think about Simonton 6500 windows?
It's a mid grade Home Depot style product. It will do a good job for the price. It is pretty bulky and uses a thin wall vinyl. I do like that it does use Cardinal Glass and that is a very good option.
What about sunrise vinyl windows? Are they a mid grade or a high grade?
Sunrise Windows used to be one of the best Windows out there. The fell onto some hard times financially and got bought out by a company called MI.
MI is great at making money but not very good at customer service. My experience with them has been that they buy up companies and then make them profitable but at the expense of good customer service. That's what they did to Milgard also.
What is your opinion on Gerkin windows.
I love their aluminum products. I don't know much about anything else.
Our 8 X 5 3 panel vinyl leaked argon after 20 years and had to be replaced.
20 years ain't too bad.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Our wood casement windows in our Alaska home are just starting to leak argon and they are 40 years old!
Hi Jeff, DO you know anything about Wincore windows?
Yes, I've actually toured their facility and met the owner. Great stuff!
Would you rather recommend a vinyl window or an aluminum window for a high end home?
That's hard to say... If you're getting an ultra premium vinyl product, that may be better than a poor quality aluminum product. I would focus more on the quality of the materials and the installation than I would the material being used.
@@HoustonWindowExperts I was thinking Quaker vinyl vs Quaker aluminum for instance so we can really put them back to back.
Pella 250 or Silverline 70 series? I've got quotes for both. Which is better? I'm replacing aluminum single hung with vinyl casements in a sandstone color in AL.
I like the 250 a lot. I'm not familiar with the Silverline.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thanks! The salesman (independent contractor) said Silver line use to be Anderson but Ply gem took it over. Other salesman (lowes selling pella) said silver line is Home Depot's contractor line. 🤷♀️ Silver line installed about $500/window....Pella installed about $750/window. Love you videos!
I'd still go with the Pella. Maybe look and see if we know of someone in your area that we can recommend. Visit JeffsList.com and take a look.
@@HoustonWindowExperts Thanks so much for the reply! I had already tried the list a couple weeks ago and got an email back that y'all didnt have anyone in our area. I appreciate the help!
Thank you for trying.
Great window content! I’m in the market to replace all of my windows and have sat through 3 presentations and am still undecided, mostly because all are recommending bulky vinyl window frames. Do you know any companies in AZ that sell the thinner vinyl frame in this video? Also, is it possible to get decent SHGC performance and avoid the hideous green color windows I see on a lot of? Thanks!
I think we may have someone in your area that we can recommend for the Amsco narrow framed window. Please email our office. info@houstonwindowexperts.com
Who makes that vinyl window? I've never seen a vinyl window with such a narrow strong. 2:49
That's the Amsco window. Anlin also makes a very narrow profile.
Have you ever heard of window nation. Are the quality windows
I have not heard much about them. From what I have heard they are a very low priced entry level product. I will check out their reviews and ask some of your neighbors about their products.
If you're looking for a great window company near you, I started a website with list of great window companies that I know can do a very good job. Maybe we know somebody near you? Check out JeffsList.com
I live in California, do you have business in this area or a business partner that you can recommend? Thank you
Hey, in some places we do. Please check out JeffsList.com thank you
Hey have you ever heard of Patriot Pride Windows? They use POLARIS for the manufacturer
I have not heard of them. I would do some due diligence online and find out if they're any good before moving forward. I have heard some good things about the Polaris window but I have not had any personal experience with it myself.
If you find that they are great window company, please let me know. I'm always looking for great window companies that I can add to JeffsList.com
@@HoustonWindowExperts they have fantastic reviews across the board. fiberglass seems the way to go but my lord the price
Why do people tell me vinyl windows will fade? Any truth to that?
All windows, regardless of material, will fade when exposed to the sun. Quality Vinyl windows will not fade any faster than any other material types. However, cheap vinyl does not have as many sun protection materials in it and it will fade faster and chalk.
I started a website to help people locate a great window company near them. We may have someone in your area. Please visit TheWindowExperts.com
Over fiberglass?? Marvin? My aluminum windows are much thinner than you showed. The profile for vinyl is too thick for me.
You must have some very thin frames. The typical aluminum frame is 1-3/8 in wide. These are 1.5" wide.
@@HoustonWindowExperts thanks for the quick reply. which thinner vinyl are you referring to? I’ll have to come see y’all. My son lives in Houston. I LOVE the way you explain the differences as windows are confusing. Yes, my frames are super thin, Alenco from back in the day. Since my house will be passed down, I wanted to get lifetime frames which fiberglass is, right? I also have a half moon transom that I would love to rock in but I think it would be too cost prohibitive. I would love to get your idea of what you’d recommend. I’ll call Monday if that’s okay.
Thanks for the help! Great resource!
We would be glad to help you. Please give us a call.
Certainly in a small below ground basement type window, just designed to allow minimal light entry, and aesthetics don't matter, they are perfectly fine.
Thank you for watching and sharing your opinion.
looks like the ugly version will be a better performer in the long run with the number of chambers in the frame being far greater
Thanks for sharing.
