The fact that the gate was so baffling is hilarious. One other method (at least on the Apple version) was to go into your fight stance so that one foot JUST breaks the plane of the gate and it closes, then sidle through.

In the version of the game I played, you walk up to the gate and kick, let it come down and immediate run through right as it comes back up. the version I played also had a final-boss called Akuma, who you had to fight after fighting his pet bird. I actually thought the bird was tougher.

I don't know if it was meant to be funny, but I think it was the most hilarious game I've seen in a long time. The not-shown 'super duper secret' ending at the start of the game, punching a bird in the face, running into a gate to have it shut in your face, the multiple coloured fighters with various different head deformities/hats. I especially like the purple viking ninja. Comedy gold.
At 2:54 eagle gets instant bitch slap on flight and is like "Ok this guy looks tough, i'll come back later with my full power..." At 6:06 eagle gets uber combo to the face and is like "WTF?! WTF!? ZOMG?! I can't even enter the f*cking ROOM!!! WTF!?!!1!11!" Eagle's so owned LoL xD

The gate is MUCH easier to pass on the normal versions of the game. You can fake out the gate by edging up to it, then kicking, which will cause it to slam down and miss you. This solution, which is the intended one, does NOT WORK on the nes version, so you have to do what this guy did. stop short while going at a full run from the right distance.
in the version that i played waaaaaaay back on windows 3.1, that damn girl would kill me after i faught this really hard shogun looking dude. She kicked me in the head.. and i would die. thanks a lot.
