There is one element videos like this cannot touch on. That is the element of training. When the Soviet Union collapsed 30 years ago, Russia did not have the ability to field its military let alone train it. I’m sure some units have been trained in the last 30 years, I would guess the majority of the Russian military is under strength and untrained.
The Chinese like to talk a big game, but they have no real field experience in nearly 50 years. The Sino-Soviet battles of the early 70s and their own Vietnam conflict in the mid 70s is the last time China was openly engaged in a fight. And there is no naval element to any fight China has engaged in, in over 250 years. You can’t expect an untried navy to fight the most outstanding navy the world has seen since the 1940s.
For the Chinese or the Russians to even be an offensive threat, they would be required to TRANSPORT their land forces to a fight anywhere. They couldn’t air drop their forces without total air supremacy, that means transport via the ocean. That means a lot of drowned sailors and soldiers before the first even begins in Japan.

So thorough. I enjoyed reading that.
Yep I don't want to be that guy but the amount of time the United States has had in active combat is crazy. The armed forces were designed to fight unconventional warfare the whole time they were on the offensive. In this case it would be a counter attack/ defence it would be a blood bath they would know exactly what to do to slow down the reds if not stop them completely. They have been fighting it this whole time imagine the what would happen if they were on the other side. The United States is a hardened veteran when I comes to experience in combat. It may be a different war but the senior leaders know what to expect when bullets start flying and shit goes crazy. Russian has a little bit of experience but China has none. You completely forget that the US invented island hopping and has proven doctrine and training whilst the Chinese army and navy have nearly zero combat experience especially in complex combined arms tasks such as amphibious and airborne assault. Additionally, they have no experience in the exploitation of any presumed successes they would have, untested command and control and logistics; it’s one thing to take non contiguous territory and another to hold it, and again, they have zero experience with such tasks. And probably most important is the quality of the individual soldiers and sailors and their units . Small unit engagement is the foundation of any conflict and the Chinese are untested; 30,000 assault troops sounds impressive but if their performance in actual combat is a clusterfuck then the actual numbers won’t matter
But the US paid a heavy price for all this. Thousands of young Americans in graveyards around the world.

Also, he is forgetting that the US has Destroyer-based missiles that can hit Satellites. The Chinese satellites that help the tracking for those long range missiles would be all but gone within the first month. The US taking 6 months to mobilize significant forces? Nah, the US has been prepared to fight a 2 front war since WW2. The ENTIRE Russian fleet would be destroyed within 3 months. The Chinese Fleet would take longer, but that's just based on more numerous numbers and strategic importance. Probably 4-5 months.

Any reconnaissance assets coming near US aircraft carriers will be seen by E-2s and other assets and will be electronically or physically attacked. Satellites will be attacked by Electronic Warfare and air breathing recon assets by F-18s guided by E-2s. Neither China nor Russia will be able to maintain a continuous track on fast moving carriers required by their hypersonic or antiship ballistic missiles.
I doubt Japan, Korea, Taiwan, Australia and a few other countries would sit by and not help out. There are also significant US Air Force and Army assets in the area as well. Not to mention within 12 hours, B1 and B2's would be showing up to knock out a large part of the opposing surface fleet. Lastly this also implies that the US and allies would be caught completely by suprise. As the build up of forces would provoke an equal build up of forces.

I agree with the video. it'd be a blue victory but a higher cost than we'd like. Interesting to think that this is solely focused on the pacific. Russia would be force to deal with a 2 front war. We still have air force bases in Poland, Germany, Italy and turkey. The problem I have with this video is like most of the US vs. Videos.
I think one of the key flaws (if you can call it a flaw) is the tendency to assume that these militaries will experience like for like losses, somewhat akin to WW2. When as we often see in the US's various war games, and reality is that modern wars (in Iraq and Falklands for example) do not play out this way. On a battle to battle basis, a single side often claims the initiative early on and snowballs from there. One of the US's greatest advantages, particularly against the RF and PRC that is rarely talked about is their highly networked and sophisticated command and control. This allows them to think and react faster to a changing battlefield environment faster than any armed forces on Earth. Being able to peel back the fog of war and make critical decisions with some level of accuracy is what wins modern wars, more than anything else.
That is a pretty good advantage but what if the us got hit by a emp missile ?
@@generalboyit7867 EMP's of any relevant size, as you know, can only be delivered through the high-altitude detonation of thermonuclear weapons. Likely multiple. Such launches would be just as disruptive to friendly forces as they would to enemy, rendering this option only suitable for defensive use as part of a retreat. More importantly such a launch would be indistinguishable from the offensive launch of ICBMs in a nuclear attack, and due to the short decision loop in nuclear warfare almost certainly trigger a nuclear response. Imagine being the President of the US and hearing that after RU/CN ICBMs were launched all contact with US forces on the Island of Japan was lost. You have 30 minutes to make a decision. What would you do?
@yehoutube That's not a compelling argument, those wars were fought decades ago under very different win/loss conditions and for very different objectives. We're talking here about a primarily naval and air war centered around the ability to competently launch air strikes into non-permissible air space. This is something the US Military is highly specialized to achieve being primarily offensive focused. Vietnam and the Korean War were hampered from achieving their objectives due to the political reality of the time. For example, the US President Harry S. Truman (being generally incompetent) believed that an invasion of China to destroy the forces amassing at the border would lead to open hostilities between the US and USSR. Truman would refrain from risking Europe at all costs, thus his tepid policy in Asia. As for Vietnam the overwhelming reality acknowledged by all sides was that the US could take Hanoi at any moment. Despite the extensive Russian SAM defenses, during the Nixon administration large scale bombing raids into North Vietnam were not prevented. Nor were they preventable frankly. The mismanagement of the war (which shouldn't have even started by the way) is expressly acknowledged as the fault of the Johnson administration and its inability to determine win conditions for the war beyond propping up the SV puppet government. This meant that for the majority of these conflicts the US forces were deprived of the initiative by their own government. In the conventional conflict Binkov presents the neither of the problematic political conditions from Vietnam and North Korea exist, as nuclear weapons are not modeled. Thus, the superior C&C of the US gives American forces a shorter decision making loop and as a consequence, the initiative.
A big flaw in the Chinese island hopping plan is that you're not counting on how effective the air assets on Okinawa will be in the case of an attack. Also the carrier support. F-35 and AV8B aircraft from amphibious assault ships already in the area will also be brought to that fight. There will already be a Marine Corps MAGTF, (Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force), in the area on a six month float on assault ships. This will include infantry elements, artillery, armor, Cobras, fighter, and attack aircraft to support Okinawa. A land attack on the island would have 15k Marines that know the island defending it until that MAGTF. News flash. Roughly 6000 Marines defended Khe Sanh against roughly 36k North Vietnamese, and held it with basic resources, and minimal resupply. That's not including the JDF personnel stationed on the island. Okinawa would hold as long as they needed to.
And of course China will not do anything? All invading forces will be destroyed. First to be destroyed by hypersonic missiles will be the US bases in Okinawa, Guam and Japan.
@@itch4travel missiles with conventional warheads really don’t do much to a large island.
And the entire Chinese invasion fleet will likely be sunk by US nuclear submarines. You simply can’t do a naval invasion when you have no sea control.
Glad you spelled out the details. That one point over Okinawa felt wrong, but thanks for the more precise details.
So you mean to say the US won't eliminate the enemy air bases preemptively? Thereby rendering any attack on the islands a suicidal mission.
With a scenario of more than a year, economics will become a factor. China's supply of ocean borne raw material and energy is extremely vulnerable, unlike those of the US.
That would mean angering other countries by depriving them of trade with China.
@@ddaazahh8064
Very true, but that is to be expected during war.
And then there is the often ignored, at least by the typical person discussing hypothetical wars, reasons for the hypothetical war.
The simple fact is that a shooting war between teh US and China woul dresult in a global recession, if not an out right depression.
The US would cripple China's economy. Making it more difficult to build more military assets, what ever that might be. China would be in debt like America is lol
@@elleneim7638
In other posts, I have said exactly that. Crippling the economy is less costly than a direct confrontation in Chinses home waters where they have the advantage of landbasd air, missiles, and sensors.
As they say, amateurs talk tactics, professionals talk logistics. Logistically, China is in a hopeless situation. They would be out of oil in a few months, out of food in the same. More locally, their troops on the Ryuku islands would have to bring everything they need when they first land, because they would not get anything more.

Why would these groups ally with one another, Pakistan and China, are both in territorial dispute with India, Israel and Iran won't just sit by, without joining against one another, the South East Asian, nations are opposed to China's claims in the South China Sea, Russia and China are somewhat allied, and the war probably started from an attempted invasion of Taiwan, by China.
Some other nations may join, but i am unsure, and may develop over time, other nations that could also join would be, Saudi Arabia, but they also trade with China, so are less likely, but despise Iran, Venezuela may join China, and might pull in South America, with them, but Venezuela is isolated so is unlikely to join, and the Nordic countries and Switzerland, will stay completely neutral, but Norway and Switzerland, will be annoyed by the war alot.
India is neutral
Shabdik Acharyya Hen a world war starts alot of things can change, i think there is a chance of it escalating the Kashmir Conflict, the Israel-Palestine Conflict, and US-Iranian tensions, because without the spotlight, nations will do some strange things, and also i was basing the hypothetical war, off territorial disputes, so i hope you understand why I included India.
Not to mention that India has been growing out of it's Non-aligned Movement past. It's becoming abundantly clear that India, Vietnam, the US and Japan all have common security concerns, and India is engaging them to China's chagrin.
@@shabdikacharyya2516 Unless the conflict starts as a war between India and Pakistan, then the other countries pick sides. Israel is the country I'd leave out, the US would actually tell they to stay out since though they have a strong defensive capabilities, their power projection is extremely limited, meaning they wouldn't be of much use, and them joining up would just cause political problems with the Arab states. However, the Persian Gulf states (sans Iran) would definitely be on the US side.
I could see a war between India and Pakistan escalating if China joins with Pakistan, then the US responds, dragging Japan into the war against China. Then Russia joining with China, bringing NATO into the war. Kind of a repeat of the geopolitics of WWI, just with different players.

Good hypothetical analysis, but as was stated last in the video, there are other players, an attack on USA would invoke NATO...and Russia does not have the means to fight in 2 theaters real time, Then there is the 2 Koreas, Taiwan, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, India.... A war of this Calibre would quickly escalate to a proper World war, and once pressed hard enough, one of the sides would most certainly use A-weapons, and then the outcome does not matter.

Stopping the Russian fleet from being able to transit the Bering Strait falls on the Alaska Air National Guard and the USAF contingent in Alaska and the US Navy in Washington State and California.
Translation, the Russian Navy gets sunk because Washington is the home port of many US west coast carriers, and all of those carriers that are undergoing complex maintenance, their air wings are fully combat capable and are within flying distance.

The next question is, what would the world situation look like five, ten, or twenty years after the war? Could the US replace its losses in a timely manner? What would happen to China's economy when faced with a complete boycott by the US? Would Japan or South Korea start a crash program to build their own nukes? What would be the political fallout for Russia and the impact on their economy? Describing the slugfest is great, but there is always an after the war to think about. Perhaps Binkov's Battlegrounds could partner with an alternate history channel to address those questions.
China is facing a catastrophic population crash in the next 25 years. They have had the one child family policy since 1979 until recently, and the people are apparently still following it. Therefore, pretty soon, the vast majority of their population will be geriatric, and that’s going to be very difficult.
It wouldn’t be just by the US. The US navy would block ALL trade to China that comes over sea
There is a major flaw in your strategy, Binkov. According to you, Russia sent most of its Northern fleet, and most of its air and land forces East, to help China, so why wouldn't the United States of America use its Atlantic fleet and Air Forces/Army units, in Europe, to attack Moscow? It would be mostly defenseless.
This is a good point. US keeps a lot of forces in Europe.
@Drew of course we would need NATO. 70% of our forces would be in the Pacific.
I know the scenario is limited for the sake of simplicity, but there’s no way in hell North Korea wouldn’t take advantage of the chaos to attack the South, and same thing with China and Taiwan.
That would be a terrible mistake on North Koreas part. In a conventional fight the South Koreas military would lay waste to the North Koreans armed forces. The ROK is better equipped and trained than the North.
Great video analysis! I beg to differ one small point. The Marines and Japanese troops on Okinawa would survive any bombardment mostly intact. We learned well from our Japanese friends the value of defensive positions and going underground...

Yes, okinawa would fall so easily because we all know that no one could have survived that bombardment. Right?

Russian fighter pilots barley keep up enough hours in training to remember how to turn on the radar lmao. Here's the thing though......so Many of the "experts" in the comments always forget that just because China has certain equipment, it does not mean that the personnel know how to use it to its full capability and are trained well enough to use it for the right strategy. Even during china's own self simulation war practices(in which China even makes it sssoooo favorable for its troops/personnel) China still either barley wins or loses majority of the time. Also, majority of china's equipment is not tested in actual war time. US is the sole military that has 20 years of recent experience and training in war and use of equipment

The Hokkaido scenario forgets that the JSDF has the Type 16. Something that can easily take out most armoured vehicles the airborne can muster. Not to mention the Northern Army has most of the armoured forces.
I think the biggest thing this scenario ignores is that china is neither food nor energy secure, and does not possess the navy to ensure shipment security across the globe. The united states possesses the means to intercept these shipments, thus denying them to china. The biggest issue for china would not be US troops, but rather the domestic implications of a food and energy crisis, on top of the economic implications of an exporting nation being cut off from consumers across the globe. The 1 belt 1 road initiative could mitigate this somewhat however it relies on the cooperation of all members in the chain. If even one flips to support the united states (or the US interrupts transport infrastructure via explosives) then it would have serious implications for china receiving the goods it needs to effectively combat the US and maintain peace at home.
This all ignores that the Chinese do NOT have a true blue water capability, that their carriers are NOT combat capable, that they are boxed in (for now) west of the Ryukus because they simply do not have the capacity to fight the Japanese, much less the American navy. ANY buildup for this kind of operation, to include moving supplies and troops, would trigger an INSTANT response by the U.S. and ships would sortie weeks before the Chinese could move. Any diplomatic connection of militaries by Russia and China would trigger an INSTANT response. This scenario is COMPLETELY unrealistic.
Which is why he stipulated no prep time. The fact is, and Binkov would admit this. The Naval and Air Forces of the United States of America are nigh unbeatable by even their near peers. _It is even unrealistic to have the Russian Federation and China on the same side in this war. _ However without something like that the answer would be easy. The US would blockade China and bomb to destroy their C4ISTAR infrastrucutre, their warmaking industiral capacity, and the infrastructure they need to provide electricity, water, and food to the populace.
