Well I call it a PMV, you all know what this is.
Please consider this my love letter to the game Hades and its creators-for getting me through this year, much as this song has. I'm not much of a gamer myself, but Hades has really stolen my heart and I recommend it to everyone.

Man, just imagining the sheer effort this boy continually goes through to see a mother he never knew is so heartbreaking. Like, it’s a fun game, but he dies and dies again for his slim chance on the surface
Keep playing, keep making it, eventually things will be right
That makes zag one of the most badass and caring guys ever. Like really think about it. This boy literally goes though hell not once not twice hell! Not even five times and dies how many times? Just for the chance to see and talk to his mother. Who else would be willing to do that? Zag has the biggest heart if he had one lol I love this game so much it’s beautiful and adorable. Ngl this game made me tear up a few times
I hope you got the chance to see through until the end
It's in line with the rest of greek myth, check Sysiphus for another example on "impossible tasks" and perseverance.

That's how you see Toasty has really played Hades lol
Also the line about feeling the hum of alcohol with a shot of Dionysus' boon on the sword.
It also fits with the fact that Athena is the first god to make contact with Zagreus in the story/during the first run

@@falcontomto uhhh... Stubborn roots is actually one of the worst duo boons in the game, possible even worse than cold embrace. The healing is far too slow to help... Then again, I play exclusively 50 heat, so maybe it's fast enough to help in other difficulties? I've only used it once tbh but it didn't help at all.
i love Zags expression when hes looking at his mother, its just a look of family love and relief
She then sees the state zag is in and comes down into the underworld early to beat hades’s ass with the wrath of a thousand scooters to the ankle

Little detail I really loved after rewatching this a few times: I love how in 0:15, you see Demeter’s hand isn’t reaching out towards Zag, it’s clenched in a fist, symbolizing perhaps her reluctance to involve herself in matters relating to Hades, and her initial delay in granting Zagreus her aid.
Also the weapon. The fists
Thi made me notice the finger guns
I watched this five times in a row just really vibing with the pictures and then I started crying at Zag's final expression. he's so happy and relieved and you can tell he's thinking" it was all worth it, and even though he'll die momentarily and he's in pain seeing his mum was worth it and excuse me I need to go find some tissues

Zagreus is also suggested to be the god of blood throughout the game
Worst part is that seconds after he spends a few precious moments with his mom he dies and has to do it all over again

that's what makes the story so heartbreaking, compelling, but also uplifting, once he finally reaches the surface again.

I still have yet to make a single successful run in this game and have been getting sort of frustrated and down about it, but this pmv made me smile. I'm gonna make it to the end even if it kills me!!

tysm!! I haven't been playing for super long so far but as of rn I am *stupid* bad at it-- I've been playing on god mode and I'm at 74% resistance and I still haven't beat Meg... oh well lol, I've still been enjoying it a lot

If you are still having lots of trouble and would like to progress the story a bit more there is something called "godmode" where each death adds a 2% defense bonus. I felt that it helped me enjoy the game a bit more.

I wasn’t gonna play this game, but then I saw this and well I’ve beaten it three times now so thank you, meeting mama Persephone is worth it every time

So i got to this part in the game yesterday and finally beat him and I got to see her all I could think of was this video. and I very much started crying.
Such a beautiful and emotional portrayal. hades is such a high-energy game and zagreus’s mixture of confidence toward eventual victory and nonchalance toward inevitable failure make it really enjoyable and easy to try again instead of giving up. At the same time, it’s really interesting to think of it from this sort of angle, a version of zagreus that is fighting tooth and nail, desperate for escape, body bruised and bloody because he’s fought to the death over and over just to taste fresh air and see his mother’s face. this song is so perfect for that idea-the rugged sort of determination that will see you through even a rock-bottom situation. And the visuals you picked emphasized it so well. I love the shot of him finally walking away from the hades fight, out of the shadow of endless night and into the light of dawn, staggering and bloody but FREE! ugh your color palettes and dynamic poses and framing and expressions and overall drawing style…I’m on my knees about it 🛐 thank you for sharing this!!
Coming back because I just beat hades for the first time tonight and I was thinking of this beautiful animatic the whole time! I wasn’t sure how the game would continue after the first hades defeat but now that I’ve seen it, zagreus’s continual struggle toward the surface feels even more meaningful from that point on. How he knows exactly what it will cost him but he does it anyway. The look of relief you portrayed on his face in this when he sees his mom says it all. just beautiful
It's impressive how the images fit with the music and the way they bring back all those emotions felt during gameplay, this video is a pleasure to rewatch again and again

So ive seen this game EVERYWHERE and im curious.
Is this game a storybased game with greek mythos characters? Or is like like am MMO? I reaaaly loved story based games, but i dont want a game with a little bit of story and a LOT of combat.
It’s a roguelike dungeon crawler! There is quite a bit of combat but it’s pretty unique and there are many story beats strewn throughout the entire process so it just feels like one long story. You basically start from the beginning whenever you die (but keep certain upgrades and materials), it’s integrated into the plot so it honestly flows really well, and then you go around the house and talk to the characters. It was my first roguelike and honestly it’s a blast, definitely worth it imo since I wasn’t sure that I’d like it, but a week later I have 30+ hours and made my first clear today. It’s extremely polished, a labour of love from its creators! Im addicted to I can probably answer any further questions if you have any :D

hi there! when I'm just futzing around, I generally tend to go by pixels, so I think this was just like... 3000x5000 or something like that? I usually don't go any smaller than 2000x2000! or if it's sized in inches, I prefer resolutions above 300 dpi to keep things decently clean (though too much higher and my computer starts complaining lol)
