Just far enough to make a seal. I don't force them all the way in. Maybe about 3/4“ or so. As the temperature drops, it helps to re-check them to make sure they're still tight and not leaking, as the cold makes them contract a bit.

my black plugs for the hose intakes seem to be to big and will not push in how far should they go in
