Evan Dyck I am glad you’re on board!! RPG’s are an absolute joy, and so unique. I am planning on making more videos on it in the future. You are a board gamer primarily I assume?

Clay Dogh Yeah! Board games are my life these days 😂 I love when board games tell a story with a strong theme, but i also love the intricate mechanics of them. So i’m curious how RPGs will appeal to me!

Evan Dyck I can say for certain there is a RPG for everyone. And some with really neat mechanics. A great one with incredible theme is Tales from the Loop. Tons more out there too.

Reminds me of Tales From the Floating Vagabond a bit. Without as much specific theme. I love it.

I'm sure you've heard this a million times but have you played Dungeon World?
A lot of your ideas can be found in Dungeon World.
In fact some of the things you touch on are addressed in a RUclips "series" called Being Everything Else.
Adam Koebel breaks down how a lot of RPGs are a collection of mini games within one big game.
Dungeon World doesn't do this. It's storytelling driven. The rules won't work unless you play a story.
I know a lot of games claim to be story driven; this one actually delivers.

I actually... Haven't! Half the time I am scared to play new RPG's now because I don't want to feel like I am stealing ideas but that is a ridiculous thought haha. I'll have to try it.

Very Interested! I too was tinkering with some very loose ideas of making a system for my roleplay sessions, but life got in the way as I'm finishing my masters in animation. Anyway, got fed up with the D6D system because of all the rules and constraints that it ultimately has.
Have you heard of The Legacy of Dragonholt? I haven't played it myself but I heard that they have a very lite rule system based on keyword rather than dice chucking or stat.

Nardran Telúrico Thanks for watching! I own Legacy of Dragonholt and while I love the work they did it should really be called a choose your own adventure game instead... I like the game quite a bit, its just misleading in my mind. As in, Don’t buy it assume you will play something similar to Dnd. Theme is the same, game is very different. And also I just finished a bachelors in animation!

Yup, I know and congrats on the animation. I've been following your channel for a while, all thanks to your vid on Scythe.
Concerning Dragonholt, I wasn't referring on its obvious CYOA structure. But I was referring to the foundation system which they build around it. The Keyword (traits and what not) and the "runes" that each character gets to exhaust to act.

Nardran Telúrico Oh okay! To be honest I haven’t played nearly enough to give an informed take on the runes and all that good jazz... Ill have to get another game night in with that one soon...

You're so right. Whenever non-roleplayers ask me about DnD or some other roleplaying game and how they play I tend to talk in scenes. I'll tell them about the time our rogue halfling had the bright idea to walk across a nasty trap room inside an upturned cauldron as protection against poison darts flying from the walls, only to step on a trigger resulting in his cauldron to be filled by a wall of flame from the floor. And the time a friend was held at gunpoint only to have his very own son accidentally blast his arm off while trying to kill his assailant. I can still see his father pleading with his son not to roll the dice, a scene reminiscent of Lando screaming at Han to aim a little higher while the sarlacc's tentacle pulled at his leg. Truly great moments among many, but they all omit the constant page flipping and the rule clarifying.
Mechanics are important, they provide a structure for the game to exist within. Unfortunately, they tend to invade and dominate reducing actual roleplaying to a fraction of the game time. So, if the memories we have and the tales we tell of these worlds consist largely of such moments, and not the act of rubbing out another stat, then you are spot on with your idea for a game. I look forward to hearing more.
Keep up the hard work, loving the videos.

Mirky All of the stories made me smile, we all have those wonderful stories and they are what make roleplaying important to me. We always leave out the page turning because it was just a means to get us to the stories. In my mind if you can limit rules while still keeping a framework and limitless options, you maximize the amount of these stories.
