I always think Noe is almost like an installation artist. He takes all these elements and pushes a film into the them. The film Climax is a really good example of this. The end doesn't really matter its the horrendous experience your pushed through as a viewer.
I struggle with epilepsy, and his movies are truly unwatchable for me. That's a little bit sad, for I love films and want to know first hand, who the f''k is Gaspar Noe.)
I think you can watch Carne and I Stand Alone And also apparently Vortex is a really « calm » Gaspar Noe film (haven’t seen it yet but that’s what I’ve heard of)
EYYY YOOOO, why haven't I've seen your reviews before. I'm going through your back catalogue now, gonna enjoy this binge 👍 EDIT: MAD PROPS FOR LABELING YOUR PLAYLISTS, oh yea I'm gonna enjoy this binge 👍 DOUBLE EDIT: YOU'VE BEEN REVIEWING SINCE 2009???? Na fam, RUclips dropped the ball not recommending you before to me.
Super grateful for your review. Just saw this for my Halloween finale and it absolutely broke me. All the noise, all the chaos, all the buildup was so perfectly released that in the ephemeral climax I actually broke into tears. Anyway, I really appreciate your well thought out and articulated review. Very insightful, thank you so much!
Apart from the two main actresses, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Béatrice Dalle, being French 80's icons, you'll also recognize Abbey Lee if you also watch "Neon Demon" (2016). The latter may indeed be typecasting herself, but I guess it works for her.
Excellent review and it earned an instant-subscribe. I especially love your connection between cinema and psychedelic drugs. Specifically how it shows you something that is artificial but impactful.
I had to come and find a video to explain what I just watched and I'm so glad I found your channel! Not only did you help me understand the movie (thank you!), but your way of speaking and obvious knowledge of the movie medium is so enchanting! Thank you for making this, it was only my second Gaspar Noe work after Climax and I think I'm beginning to understand his filmmaking better.
funny you said inland empire since I just saw both of them (and men) in theaters and it honestly was a perfect follow up to the headspace inland empire left me in
just saw the movie and afterwards your review. I agree with like everything you said. it's good to see American people talking about Gaspar Noe! def a controversial but genius author
Thank you, I wouldn't go to see a movie that burns eyes in lights. And, strangely your review seems to give more than the movie itself. Like your body is in an expression that researches a way to communicate art or creativity. After the trailer, I think the texts of the movie are fantastic, even if they are unreadable because for me it opposes individual and in some way a dancing scene. Excellent review.
I seriously love your channel! Found you through your come and see review! Your video helped me want to watch the film and now watching move of your great reviews I am inspired to watch a lot of the films! Thank you 🌺🌺♥️♥️🥺
How were you able to watch this one?? Ive been trying to see it since it came out but I haven’t been able to find a dvd/Blu-ray that has English subtitles, and it’s not on any of the streaming services I have
I was wondering if the thumbnail was previewing a profound emotional response, or some manner of extreme facepalm. Color my expectations subverted. PS - Berberian Sound Studio is a good one in the same genre.
@@DenNEE No offense, but that's a very narrow-minded take in my opinion, especially since movies can be so much more than just 'entertainment'. To answer OP's question; Enter The Void is a good start, as it's both a great film with an interesting narrative, as well as being visually stunning. Plus, personally, I'd say it's not too hard to watch.
Seems like a huge step down from even Climax, let alone Enter the Void. Not feeling that 3 split epileptic rainbow lights style at all....not artistically or thematically sound to me imo. It's not drawing me in to watch. I'm still a bit intrigued because it's Noe but....idk. directors like Argento can wow me with craziness like Phenomena but at least not assault and overload my senses to the point of absurdity.
I watched this in 2019 and it was um a movie I think? I get the movies theme and stuff but I did not like this one very much. I didn't like climax either but I didn't like climax because all the characters but maybe 1 were just horrible people. They all annoyed the shit out of me. The only part of climax I liked was the very non subtle reference to the subway scene of Isabelle Adjani in the movie possession (1981). This one just Def wasn't my thing. I don't think I connect or care for gasper probably. And I like weird tippy movies but his films feel very mean spirited. They just come across in a way that rubs me wrong. Idk. Just a me thing I'm sure
Just you mentioning that scene from Possession instantly puts the images back in my mind. What a masterpiece of horror. And yes Noe paid homage in such an obvious way lol.
In my opinion the worst of the noe films i saw. The last 20 or 30 minutes were a forced anxiety inducing seizure. I did like the actors though, the dialog seems very authentic.
I felt violated by joan of ark. I can't get certain images out of my head. I understand that was the point and i respect the artist ry. I just don't want that shit in my head. Im gonna pass. 😆😊🙏
Everyone suffers so you don’t have to be self indulgent about it, you just have to relate to it in a deep way. Unhealthy otherwise. Schindlers List does not need the director or actors to live through the holocaust to make it.
I just watched this film & Vortex in the theatres, I was happy to finally see his films in the theatre. I agree with what you said about Inland Empire. 🟥🟩🟦
Caught Vortex at nyff, honestly his best film in my opinion and an excellent use of the split screen. Never sobbed harder watching a film in my life.

Irreversible was awesome along with enter the void as well in my opinion
The red checkered outfit and thumbnail made me think this movie was gonna be NOT GOOD
Hahaha needle drop fan i see
This is the only Noe film I've never seen, so I'll hold off watching your review for now. But I'll just drop some love and say keep up the great work.
watch climax next

I liked The Red 👠 ! ( The Angels Want To Wear )

It's on Stan in Australia, might be on a streaming service if you have a look around.
Agree 2000% on Irreversible being pro-woman and a critique of masculinity.
your awsome !!! im delighted t o hear such articulation and insight in t o movies i love it

My cat almost had an epileptic seizure when he came up to try and cuddle me during the last 10 minutes of this film. Thanks Gasper!

just finished this film and my eyes hurts so f$#$#% much. i think it was brilliant tho lol
this man is crazy
What was you recommend as a first Noe movie?
None. His films make you feel bad, dirty, and sick. It's entertainment for masochists. But don't listen to me.

@@VAVORiAL I think Climax is a better introduction! Enter the Void is too “experimental” and long for a first timer
@@aaronshouting588
Fair enough.
Climax hits just the right spot in terms of length and intensity, great fun movie for a first timer
If he was a Nazi or Gnostic God hater it might be interesting. Compared to Anders Brevik he's not much. Cinema is totally dead any way.
