CSX Sand Patch Grade & Cumberland MD 1995 Part 2 (Revised)

  • 1995 Part 2 picks up from the end of part 1 with the helpers from the last train heading down grade to help another train. Note that one train has an SD50 and 4 GP40-2's on the front, (one an ex-RF&P) and two SD50's pushing on the rear. (must have been a heavy train). The last several minutes take us back to Cumberland. This visit in 1995 was our last trip to Sand Patch due to a move from the Philadelphia area to South Carolina. Sand Patch was a great place to railfan, especially in the days of second generation diesels and multiple color schemes.

    Classic CSX was such a great railroad.

    I may be wrong, but it seems like the SD60s were assigned to this district as helpers and road freight power at this time. CSX only had a small number at this time and they keep showing up.
