Fascinating - and capped by a mixed freight headed up by a GP30! Took what looked like 8 four-axle units to do the work of two or three of the new ones. Also saw what looked to be an old GP20 Yellowbonnet doing switching moves, paired with a GP38. Watching those high speed intermodels approaching, headed up by red Warbonnets, never ceases to be an impressive sight. It recalls their "Chief" passenger trains.
we spent the years 1995 and 1996 in Illinois photoing those new red/silver locos. could never get enough though. quite amazing at this late date to see solid sets of GP20s,30s35s and 38s on intermodal,,,,,,,at Edelstein! These trips were the last of my rail photography days,,,,,,you might say it was the end of an era.
Awesome RS3L that Santa Fe #6415 has, similar to the EJ&E, the C40-8Ws/SDs and GPs of Norfolk Southern, and the B40-8Ws that the BNSF has. I would think that this particular unit was scrapped for parts and is no longer operating.
My two most fav paint schemes of all time are the Santa Fe Warbonnet and the CSX Yn2. I guess the Dash 8s and Dash 9s/AC4400CWs were big reason for that.
@@coasternamegenerator5611 I guess I mis spoke. I didn't mean that the Leslie rs3k was exclusive to the BN , but I dont believe that ATSF used them prior to merging with BN. I could be mistaken, but I spent a lot of time track side watching the ATSF in So. California in the 80s and 90s and never heard that horn on Santa Fe engines. Mostly RS3ls and k3las and a very occasional nathan p3. An exception was their CF7s, some of which retained the horns they had while in passenger service as F units before being rebuilt. This included S5Ts, M5s, old cast P5As and what Looked and sounded like a K5LA. When they received their second rebuild and got new cab design they all got seapped out with either RS3LS or K3LAs. Never heard a S3K or RS3K on any ATSF locomotive.
He was one of the co-founders along with Paul Geiger, yes. I have both of their collections of films and videotapes from the 1970s through the very early 2000s.
All that 4-axle road power, different types of locos, and bonnets. I miss the good ol’ days.
Awesome Video Love 90's Trains
Wow excellent ATSF video in the 90s I love it
Thanks for sharing! Wish Santa Fe units appeared more often than they do now
Yea, the BN crapped on it and that ugly Orange came out!
I really do enjoy Santa Fe train videos
I grew up near Midway Airport, always on the lookout for Santa Fe Yellowbonnets.

Sure Nice to see "Santa FE" on the Locomotives!
As a young railfan from Streator I always wanted to get to see 4 stop at our depot. thank you
Love the old locomotives and the graffiti-free cars....
Was one classy railroad...looks like they Simonized their power back then...

Also, I would like a list of the places that this video was filmed.
Santa Fe and CSX were the only paint schemes that looked appealing on dash 8s/9s to me

What a wonderful video! I love the warbonnets!
I really love your videos
Great stuff!

1995 was the best year to watch the santa fe all the rs3ls k3s are bomb
I heard Santa Fe ran s3ks as well.
@@coasternamegenerator5611I could be wrong but believe the rs3ks all came from BN
Carl Zipperman some s3k’s came from many different railroads.

Not me personally, but I acquired their footage when they died.
+WoodsTower Who's they exactly?
Todd Miller.
+WoodsTower Did he by chance work for Clear Block Productions?
He was one of the co-founders along with Paul Geiger, yes. I have both of their collections of films and videotapes from the 1970s through the very early 2000s.
