Seems like a baller shoe for the winter months and sloppy conditions! Fantastic honest review Steven. Question, not sure if I missed it but is there a place to clip a gaiter on to?
Thanks for great video! I am now looking for Hoka winter shoe but mostly my runs look 80% pavement/asphalt and 20% trail. Now constant rain and soon some snow will hit us so I am wondering which Hoka model would fit the best for these conditions?
I really like the Kahtoola Insta Gaitor. www.avantlink.com/click.php?tt=cl&merchant_id=e6029263-4885-4a1a-9a9e-37ec86461c90&website_id=de1f4fd8-21b1-471d-a9f3-0feb61d94bd0&url=https%3A%2F%2Fkahtoola.com
hi thanks for the review I'm from Switzerland and search a good trail shoe for fall/winter with rain and snow. can you confirm that the shoes are waterproof even in the snow? In the video you are wearing gauntlets. Is that necessary because of the wetness? What brand and type are you wearing? thx in advance
Yes they are waterproof. I was wearing gaiters, as those are to stop snow from getting in the top of the shoe at the heel collar. The gaiters were the Ultimate Direction brand.
Nice review Steven. I got the non-GoreTex version last month and have been really happy with them so far but think they will do best as a summer trail shoe
Great review. Looking for a winter / Gortex perhaps shoe for trail running and hiking. Trail running now with a Hoka Speed Goat and love that shoe Want to add on a winter type shoe for inclimate weather Subbed your channel Thanks again
Thank you! If you love the Goat, check out the Goretex version HOKA Speedgoat 5 GTX / Best winter trail running shoes? ruclips.net/video/S81jpvmRL64/видео.html
@@UltraTrailSteven looked at the review of the Gortex Speed Goat Looks good Especially like the reinforced toe box Looks like great rock protection Would that also work well for a general purpose rocky terrain hiking shoe Like up at Tahoe or something similar as far as rock trails
what do you think between the non gtx HOKA challenger version compared to la sportiva akasha II ? Which is overall better choice and why? Hoka kinda looks much softer but on the other hand akasha looks very durable which would you choose?
Two completely different shoes. You said it, the Hoka Challenger 7 is higher stack and way more cushioned. The Akasha II is definitely more durable and more of a mountain running shoe, whereas the Challenger is a road to trail shoe.
Great review man! I loved the Challenger 5 and 6. Is there a reason you pick the Challenger over the Speedgoat or another GTX shoe for your winterrunning? The SG would be more for that agressive winter/snow you would say. Cheers man!
Except the price, there is no thing better in challenger over the speedgoat. SG is softer, better cushioned, it has vibram outsole. It is just better in all conditions
Great review! I'm wondering, do you think this would be a good shoe for running on gravel trails or should I look elsewhere? That's where I will be running for 90% of the time.
Well if it’s going to be wet or snowy, then yes. However, if you are just looking for a good shoe for running all the time, then the regular Challenger 7’s would be better.
Does anyone know if Hoka sell wide gtx/gore-tex trainers? I tried the standard sizing of these and found them to be pretty tight but my Clifton 9 in wide are delightful
Is that shoes realoy comfortable Smith and delicate to running... Walking and make sport. I need a shoes cosmic shoes that i will feel like im flying.. Are those shoes really Worth IT to buy... Please tell me reallllly honest
I love HOKA and use their shoes a lot, but I do not recommend these shoes. The fit and feel is nice but within the first month of me wearing these shoes the goretex grew holes at the crease lines and the inner back heel material ripped almost instantaneously. I hope Hoka fixes the quality of this shoe as I love how it looks and feels but does not stand the test of time.

Thank you, Sage. There is n gaiter clip, but I have been clipping it on the the first lace at the bottom.
Whenever I hear the word “goretex” I immediately think of George costanza saying “it’s Goretex. You know about goretex?” 😊
LMAO! Man that was the best show ever!
me too!
The triple black goretex is really cool. I just really wish Hoka had a wide version to these.
Yeah they definitely should make them in wide
I purchased these and they are super breathable. I might even sleep in them :)
lol
I got these recently for Mount Fuji and Tough Mudder, keen to try them for both later this year but so far feeling great in them
Glad you are liking them!
Pretty cool you got into Mt. Fuji. How were you able to do that?
@@thegumbychronicles4892 I took the bus and went up, I got back from it yesterday
Little update, they’re absolutely destroyed from Mount Fuji. They have less tread than some Nike shoes now
@@Baemigoso I take it you wouldn’t recommend them. At least for extreme hikes.
Ooo...Jean Reno is testing the shoes 👌

@@UltraTrailSteven how ironic - I have been running with Clifton 9 and didn’t know they have GTX version 😅 awesome, will wait for that one, thank you!

Hi i have clifton runing shoes for rundning. And they are good for that. But they are whey to soft for walking. How are these to walk in?

I personally do not like the Speedgoat 5 very much. It has excellent t grip, but the midsole is too soft, and the upper stretches quite a lot.

Good review but I love my speed goat 4 GTX, and its on good prive now.
Nice!
Bonjour. Je viens de les acheter, mais je trouve la semelle un peu rigide. J’espère qu’elles vont s’adoucir un peu.
Yes they are a little stiff, but they do loosen up
@@UltraTrailSteven merci beaucoup 😊
Any opinion on the challenger 6 vs 7? The 6s are going for $90 now so I’m trying to decide if the 7s are worth the extra money

Yes it sure can
Hi Mate, is this shoe reflective?
Unfortunately, no it is not.

No.

Yeah buddy!
Had to return them, as having pretty standard width of my feet, Hokas are waaay to narrow. My feet hurts after keeping them on for 45 minutes.
Bummer!
