BERSERKER Cracks me up when the 450 four stroke riders that think that they’re all that and get on a 250 two stroke and it scares the hell out of them, never gets old. My favorite of all of my two strokes that I’ve had in my life was my 1985 CR 500R, that thing was a monster.
Honda and others come out with a fuel injected 500cc two stroke with computer mapping and lobby the AMA to let it compete against the 450 four stroke bikes. That would bring some excitement back to racing! It would also help them sell more two strokes.
For 1, it is almost impossible for even the greatest of riders to use every ounce of power that even a lightly modded 500 puts out. This one is 10 hp more than a stock unit. For 2, a KX500 engine with just a port & polish job, milling of the head, full exhaust, reeds & cage, and proper carburetion can make 72 hp. This one is completely decked out to the hilt. This engine is not nearly tuned to its maximum potential. That’s why it sounds a bit leisurely at times lol.
THIS is the most satisfying BRAAP I have eber heard. Even better than the CR or KX500's. It is perfect. Every Engine component is perfect. All together it's just a pure beauty
why doesn't one of the manufacturers start making a 500 2 stoke again? there is a massive market out there for it. not to mention the prestige of having the craziest bike on the market
Love how the bikes barely being pushed yet it's lifting the front wheel and making it to the next corner without even changing gear. 500cc two strokes are the one engine that most people are deadset afraid of pushing because, in all honesty, the low-end power is more than enough to kill you. I can't even imagine what it'd be like full throttle. Fuck that.
I still have my 2000 KX500! It's too much bike for the woods where I now live, and I don't care! On the long loamy pulls, it leaves the thumpers behind. You can tell this rider is barely tapping into the throttle. It has power to spare. The coolest thing about riding open-classers? I could do a third gear start and never shift for an entire moto on indoor tracks. Braaaap!!!
I wish they would go back to an open class in motocross. To see this line up next to a factory 450 4 stroke would be awesome. Believe a privateer would really benefit from lighter motor and more Horsepower. Just less power band would make it harder to ride than a thumper. Would be cool to see though.
@@verttisyrjala2897 I think he means more useable power band longer and smoother. I get what you're saying when this thing hits power band it's like holding on to a rocket 🚀.

How competitive would this be under a guy like a Tomac or Barcia against the modern lawn mower powered bikes? And who is the rider in the video??? Fantastic riding! Although I seem to recall, even top factory pros used to short shift 500’s. I remember the time I thought I should race one...1986 I think....pulled a new KX500 out.of my dads Kawasaki shop, all 135lbs of me😂😂😂 That bike terrified the shit out of me! I short shifted it everywhere and it was still scary fast! The rear wheel was always breaking loose and/or the front wheel was in the air. I remember going up the hill at Washougal and the the rear wheel was spinning, the front wheel climbing and the thing would actually accelerate!! Compared to my usual 125, which would struggle to not drop gears up the hill, it was a real eye opener! I thought 250’s were too fast!
It would take a hell of a rider to use that power to an advantage on most tracks. An intermediate/Expert rider could use it to an advantage on a high speed sand track though.
A company called brc racing makes 500 conversion kits for modern ktm / husky 2 strokes and in the future Yamaha kits, in pretty sure they have a snow bike kit for em
Rocket man I remember watching the Stewart brother's James and Mostly Malcom bad mouthing 2-strokes and how slow they are but they were talking about the 250 2-strokes and I thought I wonder if either one of those lazy 450 bike racers ever honestly rode or raced a 500cc. or even a 620 or 700cc. smoker? I doubt it because I'm not so sure James could even kick a 500,620 or 700cc. smoker to life. It just pissed me of two pro-racers putting down the same bikes that made them money as well as famous! They were great racers on the 250 2-strokes and also the 450 lazy man's bike at least when James didn't wreck so much! Malcom took a long time before he broke the top 5. The old saying "pride comes before a fall" is quite true with these brothers.
Didn't bark like a strong running big bore 2 stroke, in fact sounded kinda weak! In my humble opinion.... I suspect they raised the exhaust port a tad too much.
vevohoeyo of course it wouldn’t be as competitive! But long more wide open outdoors and a good experienced 2 stroke rider would have a blast and do alright. Have you watched the gp dude give up a title just to ride a 1998 cr500? He actually finished 3 or 4 against all 450s! Very impressive and just all around fun to watch. The track he raced it was actually a lot tighter then most of the US tracks
On the brakes more than the gas, it looks like. A flywheel weight would help smooth out the power a little. I wonder how that shorter swingarm works on it?
