  • Hamilton Accies were promoted to the Scottish Premiership after beating Hibernian 4-3 on penalties in front of 18,031 fans on an incredible Sunday afternoon at Easter Road.
Hibs led 2-0 from the first leg of the play-off final at New Douglas Park in midweek but Jason Scotland fired Accies ahead with a low shot past Ben Williams in 13 minutes.
The Championship runners-up played well throughout and were rewarded in stoppage time when Tony Andreu swept the ball home after good work by Scotland to take the tie into extra time.
The additional period failed to produce a goal and the match went to penalties, with Hamilton keeper Kevin Cuthbert saving the first kick from Kevin Thomson.
Grant Gillespie, Ryan McGivern, Tony Andreu, Liam Craig, Mickael Antoine-Curier, Owain Tudur Jones and Jason Scotland all scored but midweek hero Jason Cummings saw his effort saved and Hibernian will now join city rivals Hearts in the Championship next season.

am I the only one here who thinks the Premiership/Championship playoffs should be just like the other playoffs (i.e. 11th v 4th, 2nd v 3rd)?

Wow, watching this after the start to the season Hamilton have had (and I see it continuing) it really shows how much the wanted it. Amazing. They fully deserve everything they've achieved so far, got a team full of talented youth and a few older experienced continental players with their attacking footy and great manager; I see them becoming a "big club" if they keep it up consistently. The people of Hamilton, I mean the whole town/area needs to start supporting them, they sure as he'll deserve more support at games and on the road. Completing their stadium and building proper training facilities and after a few seasons with all of the above the the established big six teams all in the Prem with them providing quality opposition to each other and I see them growing and growing. And they deserve it.

At the time I genuinely couldn’t believe we went down. We had been so so poor all season but it still felt wrong. However it was actually the best thing that ever happened to Hibs. In the years leading up to 2014 we had been on the decline anyways and consistently it was poor season after poor season with embarrassing defeats. Us getting relegated gave us the chance to have a full scale rebuild with new directors at the helm and only 2 short years after this we win the Scottish Cup 💚

10 years to the day and that rabble from Lochend are still as utterly horseshit. Thanks for being Hibs, the best ‘rivals’ a club could have.
