I built a very similar box except I split the bed portion into 2 seperate foldout sections. I can remove both seats or just one depending on whether I need a double or single bed. Bravo, very nice job!
Good idea ! With my Berlingo the passenger seats are all independent - I hadn't thought of that! So you're using a multi-piece mattress, and not just one that can be unfolded?
The one thing wrong with a great many of these conversions is they don't have anywhere to sit when the bed is made, a space to put your legs over the side to get dressed/undressed or have a piss in the middle of the night? I did see a very clever micro van conversion in Japan where a section of the bed was removable creating a footwell so the guy could cook wash dress eat etc in relative comfort, not have to do everything on your knees!
There are some that make them were you can sit upright in them, and also lay it flat down. they have a table in the middle. Check out "man on the outside" he made one were you sit in it
Well most time you can sit outside, but I'd put a slide out for the table/seat in case it rains. I'll also make it a single beds to use if there's 2 or one to save space/weight.
Fantastic build my guy! I am looking for inspo to build this summer, and this is the bees knees! Especially liked the lid with the catch on top of the drawer :)
Hey can I ask what the far end of the platform is supported by when it is folded out for the bed? I assume the chairs are down or removed but is there just empty space under where your head rests or does that board/panel sit on something? Thanks.
I like to think of it as having three parts, all with separate support systems. The first part, closest to the rear door, is supported by the box itself. The second part (which in a future build I'd have the joint resting on the box as well), is supported by the seats. I also throw a long rectangular piece under the joint between the 2nd and 3rd part, so that it rests evenly and distributes the weight a bit better on the seating backs. The third part is then held up by very thin climbing cord, you can go with 3 or 4mm thick. Simply thread it through the last slat and go under and around so the cord isn't pulling from underneath your mattress, then you can tie it off either in the seat-belt pillar loop / anchor ring, or directly on the metal posts from the front-seat head rests. If you know your way around knots, you can make a sliding one that then allows you to easily adjust the angle of this piece too. Good luck!
I bought long piano hinges 20mm width, I believe the screws were 3.5cm long. Regarding the hinges, if I'd do it again, I might go for some more heavy duty hinges and inset them. The long & thin piano hinges are quite flimsy and really require all the screws to hold it there.
Good question! The middle lays on top of the folded down seats. The third part closest to the driver seat is supported via some small climbing cord looped through the seatbelt structure.
Mostly 18mm, with 15mm in some spots! If you put the subtiltes on, I actually write all the dimensions of the boards and other little things to watch out for.
Hey! It will work for any car roughly this size. You just have to measure your length and then adjust the length of the pieces in the plans. It should be straightforward :).
I'm fairly certain the 2nd row is just folded down (close to the floor). I have a 2014 Transit Connect and the 2nd row has a second stage after folding the backs down. They move forward and down pretty much touching the floor. The 3rd row seats are taken out with four T35 bolts.
Not at all, it is very comfortable! We put a soft mattress cover/protector type thing on top of the mattress, and then the sheet. Bamboo sheets...also recommended :).
Beautiful project! I have a question: all three panels above are 680, while the one at the bottom is 705? And how does the bed panel in the middle rest on the floor?
Hallo Rainer, herzlichen Dank und ja! Es wären 10 Euro abzüglich der Mitgliedsbeiträge (falls Mitglied meines Kanals). Bei Interesse einfach Bescheid geben oder privat melden. Viel Erfolg beim Bauen!
Amazing work! May I ask what is that piece (min. 6:50) between the first two blocks of the upper part for? Is it to load the weight better? Why don't you join the two big blocks directly? Maybe it's a stupid question but I'm new to these things 😊
If you look at the fold-out (07:13), that small piece allows the sections to stack on top of one another and then fold out into one flat piece. The folding out section 3, we could call it, is sitting on section 1. The added small piece gives the depth so that the pieces are still flat. Hope that makes sense. Just watch the video clip a few times and I think you'll see what I mean. :)
Suuuure, now I got it 😅 I thought it was something to make it more 'functional' but it actually is for the sizes! One more thing, may I ask you if the hinges to join the openable pieces are specific ones? Can I buy them online? Or are they commons? Thanks!!

It should fit! You might have to adjust a bit depending on the height of your folded down seats and the total width of the car, but that should be easy to calculate.
Hey!
@@ericinthewild It would be good if you could come up with a simple modification for a berlingo, for when the rear seats are taken out. Not always needed, but for longer trips away, taking them seats out give a huge mass of extra storage space 👍
Can anyone explain how i can pay for the plans? I see a paypal, however also something about membership, though can't see anything more about how to get a membership
Hey there! Just write your email in the paypal comment, and "camper box plans". Then I can send them to you directly, or even give the link over paypal chat. The membership is just kind of like a Patreon through RUclips, some people choose to support creators this way. You can find that if you subscribe and then click "join" on my profile, you'll see some options with perks etc. For those who are members, they can essentially deduct the membership fee from the price of the plans. Hope that helps!
No, but necessary for the way this is built. If you predrill the holes you will be more successful. Alternatively, use a different hinge mechanism. If I built it again, I would inlay different hinges... Because you're right, this is the weakest part of the build.
Yes, a slight modification of that. The original is credited within the description, and has been since the beginning. You can also find GVM Corner even commenting on this video. ;) ... Not only that, but I also arranged with him to give a percentage from any of the modified plans I sell.

Finally someone sanely using plywood to reduce weight , everyone else is simply dumping weights in their vehicle

Well... That it looked like a bone. The flavor I'll leave to your dog to decide 😂.

Good Job ! Can you share the plan or the dimesions plz?🙏🙏

Great piece of work, considering doing the same thing, what do you guys do for ventilation at night.
We have rear windows which kip open slightly, and if it's really cold I'll usually just unlock them and that leaves a small slot that does the trick.

That's what I thought, sorry not for me, I would not feel comfortable sleeping in an unlocked car.

It's all beech wood! 15mm for the frame and bed, 12mm for the box and face.
Hello, plan you sell, is it for long or short tourneo connect ? What is the year of your car? Thank you !

I want to buy a box plan. How to do it?

Amazing! Can you share your plans with me? I want to make something similar, would be great to see your dimensions! Cheers!
Hey there! Please see the description for info how to get the plans! :)
Otherwise, I've also put the dimensions in the subtitles!
How much space is it between the box and the Seats?
hallo. kannst du mir bitte den plan von campingbox senden. vielen dank 🙏

Beautiful project! I have a question: all three panels above are 680, while the one at the bottom is 705? And how does the bed panel in the middle rest on the floor?
It rests on the folded down middle seats! Length you have to measure for your own car!
🥰👍🥰
What size hole saw did you use and why?
The biggest one I had!... so that I could have somewhere to start in order to cut the slats out for the bed.
Do you think I could make one for my C3 picasso,? Only marginally smaller than a berlingo..I'm not bothered about the headroom as im short.
Hey! Totally! Just make each section a bit more narrow and the concept will certainly transfer over.
Toll gemacht! Super genial! Verkaufst du die Pläne?

What does it weigh without any thing in it?
I haven't weighed it -- but I can carry it by myself if needed, with two people it's very comfortable to move around.
