I remember one of the very first worlds I ever made had sheep, dogs, and nothing else (at least for like say 1-1.5K blocks but I was too scared to venture far from my hut back then). That would have made things sooooo much easier.

Laurin Neff Let me put it this way. For a player in PE in the old days, Netherrack was more valuable than diamonds because I’m pretty sure a Nether reactor core cost 3 or 5 diamonds, and you could only get limited netherrack because the reactor core spawned in a type of ‘mini nether’

I'd also argue that Datapacks we're pretty revolutionary, because they combined functions, structures, loot tables, and a whole lot more in to a single drag-and-drop file
1 year later, we can now make custom world generation in datapacks. This is awesome.
As someone who's been tinkering with datapack modding for my own use with experience making mods for a couple other games, 100% agree. Anything that gives you drag-and-drop modding options, especially that don't require any external mod loaders, is a massive boon. I haven't even gotten into exploring the mechanics of functions, structures, or dimensions and yet I've still found a ton of trivial tweaks I've been able to mess with.
Meanwhile, the aquatic update is crying somewhere in the corner

I was still in my 'only creative mode' phase when loads of these things were introduced :P I remember looking through the block menu and being like 'oh, another new thing' because I was 12 and had no idea how awesome these things were ;D

That was me at 7, I loved making minecart tracks all the time when I first played, then when I got Minecraft on the Xbox I had a world where I just made statues and stuff, and I also play computer with my friends but all we did was mess with commands, and make cool bases. When I finally did get into survival (just a few years ago) I had to watch a lot of videos to know what I was doing, but now I have a main world that I started in January, with big plans

If you account switching to another pick after every block, diamond is faster.
At the time breaking a block was saved between swapping in your hotbar so you could start mining with a gold puck then swap to diamond to have nearly the speed of gold with the durability of diamond

sharpfang, with enchanted books, you can actually sort through the garbage and get the useful enchants. If it still used 30 levels, there’s no way an xp farm would be able to supply enough experience.

Yea. My mind still knows like all the recipes until 1.8 and a lot of the later stuff but i became more interested in other games after 1.8
@@Blockmaster2706 That is exactly me. I stopped playing in 1.8 and now that I've started playing again I still have all those recipes memorized. I'm kinda sad you don't have to memorize them anymore, tho. I know it makes it more accessible to new players and younger players but it was kinda part of being in the community and a point of pride that veteran players could craft anything, no matter how complicated, from memory without needing the wiki anymore. That's how you knew you'd graduated to a full member of the community.

Sure, but those things couldn't be powered yet. You had to rely on weird bugs in minecart collision and make little side loops with minecarts on them along your track to boost you along the rail.

@@fuzzytheduck a villager, that is named then converted into a zombie, and subsequently cured will despawn, currently.
I don't quite remember whether it retains the name throughout the process, regardless.. It despawn upon unloading the chunks.
Mumbo has had a few accidents with his Villager Hall, though some of those could be down to shoddy security and lighting standards. ;)

Bats are actually an amazing feature. They help you detect nearby caves.

And so much fun when you're nearly finished breaking an obsidian block when they fly between your pick and the block
Back when they were introduced I was mostly playing on peaceful. So they made caves feel a lot more alive. Compared to being in a cave with only blocks and yourself but nothing else.
They're also there to screw up you fighting mobs in caves to make it harder. However, I feel they should drop an item, but I'm not sure what it would be used for. Better yet, they should eat bugs and they could introduce bugs like butterflies, moths, flies, and mosquitos.
Unpopular opinion:
I actually like bats. They add life to caves so it doesn't feel so desolate and lonely with all the ambient noise and mob sounds. Bats make me feel like I'm not alone down there.

Literally exactly what I just experienced. I played Minecraft a little bit on my friend's Xbox in 2012 here and there. I had a lot of fun but it was so tedious and monotonous that I never got super into it. I can't believe some of the quality of life improvements they've added
Tbf I hadn’t really played or kept up for a few years and it felt wild to come back to the game with flying machines, elytra (the gliders idk if I got the name right), mobs like bats bees donkeys rabbits plus drowned and some weird orange bird Ive seen?? I’m playing again now for the first time and keep coming across new features I had no idea existed 😭

I think the introduction of Phantoms were a game-changer. It meant that you could now repair an Elytra if you didn’t have mending on it. Also Phantoms are super cool in my opinion. They sound cool, they look cool, and they are very easy to deal with. It’s also a game-changer because of how many people got upset over the implementation of a mob _they voted for._

Agreed. Phantoms are not bad. Terraria players deal with uncalled for flying mobs all the time, you don't see them complaining

Lol building in creative and doing anything around a cave. I constantly feel the need to flood them with lava to stop those buggers from making their damn noises. And sometimes you need the difficulty not at peaceful and then you have to deal with mob noises. And we need more lighting options.

Hey, I remember when beds didn't set your spawn point! Back then, the wisdom was to never set your base too far from spawn, and to mark spawn somehow. I used towers. Good stuff. I'm so glad we have beds now.

in earlier minecraft, when you punch a tnt to ignite it, you can punch it again to get it back.
That's some _really_ early Minecraft though. Before Indev even. And they removed that feature pretty much right away.
My goodness that would be a lifesaver in creative testing. Speaking of which though, here's a little tip. If you want to test TNT devices in creative, place a command block nearby, set it to repeat, with the command: kill @e[type=tnt,nbt={Fuse:1}]

I remember that to get to the nether you had to make a structure 3x3x2 using really expensive blocks. When it was complete it would make a very tall tower made out of nether brick.
That was on mobile and was called the nether reactor core. Lots of memories mate.
