Man, when they got to Robert Osborne it felt like a kick in the ribs. He’ll be desperately missed by lovers of film everywhere.
Loved him.
Gut punch.😢
Agree🇺🇸🙏‼️🌹💯💯💯💯💯💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙👍👍👍👍🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
I'm so glad that they gave Robert Osbourne the coveted last spot for this year's tribute list.
The last one wasn't just them saying goodbye to a TCM host, but an old friend.
You're not kidding Osborne was the best host for TCM
@@curtrupp4259Mr. TCM
Wow. Didn't see this before today. Seeing Robert Osbourn at the very end felt like someone clutching on my heart. Loved his enthusiasm for classic cinema and looked forward to his film introductions so much. Greatly missed.
Mr. TCM
This gives the performers so much more respect than the Oscars. I just wish it would have been around back to when so many did not get the send off they deserved.
for those wondering about Carrie Fisher...
she was included in the video last year...she was a last-minute addition to the presentation...her mother Debbie Reynolds, unfortunately, that one day made the difference in whether to try to get her in as well or miss the "end of year" deadline (no pun intended)...plus, you have to look at it from the standpoint of her legacy...people would have been angry if they had just rushed a quick pic of Debbie at the end, given her decades of work...
so, she was guaranteed a spot in this year's presentation...
TCM REMEMBERS is also known for the formula that the last spot in the memoriam is usually reserved for the person TCM sees as the most impactful loss for classic films that year...and, where any other year where people like Debbie Reynolds or Jerry Lewis would have surely been that person...it's very fitting that Robert Osborne got that spot...
plus...I defy anyone who didn't choke up a bit when they showed Debbie giving a kiss to a baby Carrie Fisher...
Terence Heesch Thanks for that wonderful explanation. Answers my question perfectly!
They should be waiting 2 weeks for Jan 1 to get here. Celebrities always die in the last two weeks of the year. It never makes sense.
Wel show Carrie Fisher please
She's toward the end of this one. ruclips.net/video/11Hv8qPsc0s/видео.html
In next year's one they will add Bob Givens, Animation (Bugs Bunny, et al.) and Rose Marie, Actress
These tributes are very well produced...you always see at least one or two people you didn't know had passed that year...producing a quiet gasp " Oh no! He/She died?" And " Noooo not them!!!"
Exactly! So true!!!
Too many losses who can not be replaced. Guess we are all getting older but this one hit me harder for lots and lots of performers who represented many eras of film and no replacement for these great talents. God's rest Mr. Osborne.
Gotta stop cutting onions while I watch TCM Remembers videos 😭
Robert Osborne as the final tribute was so fitting. To me, he WAS TCM; it’s just not the same without him.
RIP Robert Osborne, you are now among the stars where you deserve to be.
he already was !
You all be missed RIP. especially Robert Osborne, thank you TCM, all this great people left us, but we well remember all watch TCM.!
Donatello2030 Yes that was a beautiful ending. TCM will never be the same since Robert died.
Robert Osborne made TCM. Whenever I see this channel or hear someone say TCM his name is the one I know. RIP to all these great artists.
I agree I remember a time when I was going through a very difficult period in my life, I discovered TCM at that time and was drawn to Robert Osborne. Somehow just listening to him cheered me up, there were times when I didn't even tune in for the movies just to hear his intro. Somehow the channel just isn't the same without him.
RIP Adam West. We'll always see you in the same Bat time and the same Bat channel.
Thank you, TCM, for featuring June Foray in this video. I didn't know that the dad from the "Home Alone" movies had died. We'll miss him as well as June, Jerry Lewis, Debbie Reynolds, Adam West and most of all, Robert Osbourne.
Thank you for this. Nice ending with Robert Osborne. You will never be able to please everyone. This was a beautiful tribute and reminded me of some amazing talented people whose works will live forever!
I never choke up at these annual 'remembers' videos, but the last one presented cause me off guard and I just balled up in tears. :(
The Ferbguy , I never make it through
You know Robert would be last
SUGAR XYLER , sad and kinda sweet , it does hurt to see them go and then to see the ones who remembered go - anyway God bless them all ! Merry Christmas 🎄❇🌹🎆
Crying is a natural human function!
I remember when Robert Hardy and Peter Sallis passed away I told my mum .And she said I've never heard of Robert Hardy. I said he was one of your favorites on All Creatures great and small he was Siegfried. And when Peter Sallis passed it was the same thing. I've never seen him before. I looked at her and told her you watch him every night he's Norman Clegg on last of the Summer Wine.
Thanks for his legacy.
Adam West and Roger Moore.
Legends never die.
No one does memoriams better than you TCM. Thank you for another great remembrance. So many wonderful performers lost this year and many that are from my generation... I knew it was coming but it makes me tear up so much.
They should get TCM to handle the obit reels for the Oscars, Emmys and other awards shows. They are the gold standard for these tributes.
Well done, you could teach the Oscars a thing or two.
The older I get the more depressing this becomes :(
it never gets better
Don’t let it depress you, if it does again just pop an old favorite film in and have a movie night.
Every year, every birthday should be celebrated!
This years TCM Remembers was esp sad , the song is the best fitted for it as well I believe. RIP to them all
Sadly, TCM already has one person to include in TCM Remembers 2018: Oscar-winning film editor Jerry Greenberg died this week at the age of 81. Among the films he edited: 'The French Connection' (for which he won his Oscar), 'Apocalypse Now,' 'Kramer vs. Kramer,' 'They Might Be Giants,' 'The Taking of Pelham One Two Three,' 'Heaven's Gate,' 'National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation,' 'Awakenings,' 'American History X' and Brian De Palma's 'Scarface,' 'Dressed to Kill' and 'The Untouchables.' He was also an assistant editor on 'Bonnie and Clyde' and 'Reds' and music editor on 'A Thousand Clowns.' In addition to his Oscar, he won a BAFTA (also for 'The French Connection') and received a Career Achievement Award from his guild, the American Cinema Editors (ACE), in 2015. He was a giant in his field, a true master of his craft, and an absolute gentleman to boot. I think it's safe to say he has a spot waiting for him in next year's tribute.
Chuck Amuck, Mr. Greenberg was the man! He will be missed!
No matter how many times I have watched The French Connection, I still apply the brakes, fear for the the baby in the pram . . . and all of the players whose performances were as tight and spot-on as Mr. Greenberg's editing.
I always choke up at these no matter the year or the personalities. It's a stark reminder to anyone with two brain cells that our day will come as well and soon. The beautiful part to this is that these are some of the people that make this crummy world we've constructed into something far more beautiful because of their work and effort. With the people in the arts, I'm not sure I could have ever lived this long. We'll spend trillions on killing people and war, but can't seem to find any money to create a bit more love.
Every year, these TCM Remembers never fail to leave a catch in my throat. Some will kvetch that they left some notable names off, and they do (for various reasons) but I still feel these are beautiful sojourns and TCM does an honorable job.
This year, the musical accompaniment is the beautiful Cardigans song, "Lead Me Into The Night."
Wire Dreamer Thank you for letting us know the title " Lead Me into the Night" & artists, the Cardigans, who performed the hauntingly beautiful song played during the 2017 TCM Remembers Montage.
Thanks, TCM. Your tributes are always of the highest class.
May they rest forever in the Arms of Our Lord Jesus Christ!
Jesus who?
SUGAR XYLER our Lord and Savior who died so that we may all have eternal life..
SUGAR XYLER please get to know Jesus.. He is our salvation in this crazy evil sad world
Or whoever they believe in! (But Wm. Peter Blatty definitely, he was a devout Catholic!)
2017 was a tough year for fans of Horror.
Chikara Hashimoto deserves such recognition as he's been in the film industry longer than many here yet he wasn't included in this tribute.
I always look forward to these, each year, and I always tear up at the ones I knew and shock at the ones I didn't realize had passed.BUT...Robert Osborne really choked me up.I always wished I could have had just an hour with him.He was the epitome of "Hollywood" inside information and seemed like a real nice man.R.I.P.,Mr.Osborne.
makes me wanna cry! r.i.p. to all of them!
Most of All I Miss Robert Osbourne !! A Scholar & Gentleman & A Damn Good Guy !! No More Stories of Lucille Ball, Olivia da Havilland, Mickey Rooney, Judy Garland, Maureen O'Hara, and Robert Mitchum !!
As always, another great tribute by TCM....there's always someone I see that I didn't know passed on....Thanks to all at TCM for all the great movies and specials all year long, my absolute favorite channel ! : )))
as each of us ages, we will each recognize more of the people on these lists
It is surprising the actors you remember but suddenly learn of their passing. I didn't even know Powers Booth and Stephen Furst passed away. God rest their souls.
Rest In Peace, Bill.
It always seems amazing how much time has passed every time I watch one of these! Debbie Reynolds? 2017? She died in December 28, 2016.
Not only is this tribute to our departed stars but downtown Atlanta never looked better.
I miss Robert Osborne so much 💧💖✨
Beautiful TCM! Whomever produces these needs to work on the ones the Award shows do every year. These are so well done!
2017 sucked for a lot of reasons, and this was one of them. So much loss.
Yup! Death is a real gunner for those left behind.
Beautifully done, as always.
Remains of the memory.
Sonny Landham should have been in this tribute. He's more of a film actor than series and he's a stunt performer.
to celebrates passway in May we never forget you rest in peace thanks making good moviez
Thank you, for showing decent pictures of the people. So respectful!
You forgot Miriam Colon! She was a great actress in both movies and television! She's probably more remembered for role as Al Pacino's mother in "Scarface", and as Elizabeth Pena's mother in "Lone Star".
These things always hit me right THERE. You guys do the best.
Wow ! Thank you TCM, So many, that I remember seeing over the years.....many that weren't that old....😞 😔 😟 😕 🙁
Harry Dean Stanton and John Hurt, two of the original cast from Alien.
These are always soooo good. thanks TCM
Glad to see that Don Gordon was remembered. Most other lists did not include him.
John Vernon passed in 2005, Stephen Furst in 2017 and Verna Bloom in 2019. TCM used clips from Animal House for all three.
All missed. RIP
❤️💋👍👏👏👏👏👏👏👏💔😪🎭🎬🎟🏆🎥📺🎞🕯 Thank you. RIP 🙏
The death of Robert Osborne was the death of TCM. Since he left us, the channel has steadily declined in quality. The branding, the messaging, the presentations, all of it is failing the regular viewer. I hope it can survive despite all of the terrible decision and budget cuts. I miss Robert all the time.
I wish they did tributes like this in the UK so beautiful
This reminded me I briefly met June Foray at an event a few years before her passing.
Debbie is holding Carrie as a baby
Ok...this one got me... Debbie and Carrie rest peacefully beautiful ladies.
Seeing Bill Paxton really got me.
bet he didn't expect to be in this
😥😖Aww, #BILLPAXTON ,You sexy charming, loveable, gorgeous, talented, #HUNK of a Man--I miss you more as time flies by....😢💋
The one who is noticeably missing from 2017 was Jay Thomas. He had a major role in Mr Holland’s Opus which also starred Glenne Headley who is the very first actress seen in this video.
Cried when I heard "hi, im Robert Osborne" So much better than Ben. Robert is a true hero
I agree! miss Robert Osborne, too. The best host of TCM. It was never the same after he passed away!
Ben is also a good host. Robert, though, was the best. See my previous posts.
Ben is doing a good job. Thank the stars above we were able to have Robert Osborne as a host for many years.
I'm looking forward to 2019 Remembers! 😥
Epic❤❤❤
Super Sad to See Two of My Favorite Character Actors who both Coincidentally starred in The Greatest & Scariest SCI FI Movie Ever Made IMO "ALIEN" John Hurt & Harry Dean Stanton are No Longer with Us
Wow. So many favorites died this year (2017). None of them can ever be replaced. I agree with DDiva R. Very depressing.
Keely Smith bought the farm on Saturday. Any chance she'll be added? Thunder Road is a classic.
jadzilah , I had no idea - she was great - loved her ! thank you for posting the information !
I saw the comment further down regarding Carrie, Thank you
When I saw Jimmy Stewart’s grave a dimple headstone among the the graves I remember my dad talking about famous people who came to the automotive factory to get cars. John Wayne was in the washroom using a urinal and laughed and told my dad yeah we put our pants on one leg at a time. And then they stood and talked about the car he was coming for.
Damn, a lot of good people left us this year!
I knew Red West. I am so glad they remembered him.
The only one I don't understand missing is Roy Dotrice. C'mon, the guy was in Amadeus for chrissake! And his daughters are all actresses, I'm sure they'll notice this glaring ommission as well.
He was great in Amadeus; I was really surprised that he wasn't included.
I saw Adam west but not David cassidy
David Cassidy wasn't a movie actor
MissLizaMay isint this for all entertainers?
As TCM shows movies, the person likely needed to appear on the silver-screen in at least one well-known movie. When the Oscars does their annual remembrance, they don't include non-movie entertainers either. Why would they?
Debbie Reynolds and Carrie Fisher both died in late December 2016. This is the problem every year with a lot of these "year in reviews" in general, especially in print. They usually end in mid-late November. So if some major event happened in December, or if some famous person passed away, then...that's it! I got my TIME Year In Review book for this year. Folks like Fisher, Reynolds, or George Michael died too early to be in this year's In Memoriam, and died too late to be in last year's! Much like when Paul Walker and Nelson Mandela in late 2013. My point with all this? Perhaps we should wait 'til January...
TCM releases their tributes in mid-December and they often include those who died in early-to-mid December. If anyone significant dies within the first week or so of the video's release, TCM will add them in and re-release the video. Any major movie contributors who who die after that first week will be added to the following year's video. Unfortunately, last year TCM decided to edit their video well beyond the cut-off date and squeeze Carrie Fisher into the end of the video. They re-released the Carrie version of the video just hours before Debbie Reynolds passed away. As a result, Fisher is in the little-seen revision of the 2016 tribute while Reynolds is in this year's video. Had they just kept to their usual deadlines, Debbie and Carrie would both be in the 2017 memorial.
John Hurt and Harry Dean Stanton next to each other. Alien :(
Well lost batman in 2017😢
Goddamn this was a hard year, so many talents gone.
Never thought I would complain about a tcm remembers, but leaving out Sonny Landham made it feel very incomplete, imho.
No Jim Nabors, eh? He appeared in a few movies with Burt Reynolds.
The rule is the celebrity has to be PRIMARILY known for movies and Nabors was known for television.
Mary Tyler Moore was in the Oscar Memoriam last year but made the TCM this year because of when she died. I think the same with Carrie Fisher and Debbie Reynolds.
Mary Tyler Moore was up for an Oscar versus Sissy Spacek in Coal Miner's Daughter. I would have voted for MTM but what a contrast in roles the upper middle class mother from Lake Forest versus, well, a coal miner's daughter. Would have been a great year for a tie!
Rip paxton😢😢
What film is that bit with John hurt?
These talented beautiful people don’t really die do they??
They always miss so many important people. I wonder if it a time issue ?
Who sings this song I kind of like it
Music: THE CARDIGANS / LEAD ME INTO THE NIGHT ( 4:30 ).
the Cardigans Band
Barbra Hale from Perry Mason
2017 was a year of heavy loses.
I wish that Peter Sallis' part was longer than an eye blink !! Otherwise , this is another great video !!
I know, right? Cleggy! :-(
The only singer/actor who was left out was David Cassidy. Why? I know I won't get an answer, and I've asked this before. It just upset me. Still does.
David was a TV star, albeit one of the biggest. I cannot think of any theatrical film he was in, although that makes NO sense as fans would have flocked to see one he starred in.
too sad
Bold😊
Well, I'm crying again! May God rest their souls!
And quick dumb question, did I miss Carrie Fisher? I saw her mom Debbie Reynolds, but I didn't see Carrie.
Themanwhocameback2 thanks!
I thought carrie fisher died a day before her mother? Yet i did not see that they mentioned her. Am i correct?
WHERE'S CARRIE FISHER???
Clifton James was so funny in Superman 2, I remember my dad laughing when he said "did I hear right, sonofabitch giving me an order!".
Robert Osborne was such a comforting presence in our lives. Many have said this, and it is true: it was as though a dear old friend entered our living rooms, sat in a chair reserved just for him, and with his gentle manner and words, took us away from our troubles and to a world of make-believe.
Very true and well said. I had the pleasure of meeting him (see my previous post). He was a real gentleman, very down to earth, and really cared about his fans.🙂❤
Robert Osborne you will be sorely missed! My family started watching TCM when I was in junior high, and I’d always tune out the older guy introducing the films, just waiting for the film to start impatiently and turning the channel when it ended. Never paying any attention to him, bored by the delay of the film. Later, something changed. I think he was talking about my favorite film, Marty (1955), and I hung on his every word. When dvr came about, I loved that I could rewind and listen to his intros and outros. Robert Osborne had a wealth of knowledge and experience in Hollywood and film. Watching a film now on TCM without his introductions and the way he connected with us, the audience, is just not the same. We bought all his books and I especially loved his huge books on the oscars. Robert Osborne was the _best_ !
I used to yell "Come on, Osborne, what did you do with Bob Dorian?"
Genevieve So true!!
Yes I was the same way once, but came to appreciate him later on thankfully.
Me too :)
Every year I watch these and every year someone nearby is cutting onions.
R.I.P. Robert Osborne (1932-2017) :'(
