Hauntsy Wauntsy Yeah I'm gonna say I pretty much agree but I feel Best Overall and Most Epic should be Awkward because no one knew it was going to get that awesome and epic when Jon comes in
"Just wanted to say something about 'Awkward'. The verses are meant to be sarcastic. The chorus is meant to be from the viewpoint of your oppressors/doubters. Please don't feel the need to ever thank anyone for doubting you unless it fuels you to be yourself and know what you know. There's no honor in making yourself smaller or doubting your abilities. The lyrics to the song are meant as a warning. In life you come across 'friends' who try to put you down or humble you "for your own good". Fuck them. They aren't your friends" -Tilian Pearson
Pop I I personally thought it was more of an angels and demons situation, like the angel on one shoulder demon on the other arguing about a decision but it’s nice to see others viewpoints
I didn’t know people misunderstood the lyrics. I thought the meaning of the lyrics was obvious, but maybe that’s just cause I’ve experienced it before and listened to this album a lot during that time.
I’ve suffered a life of social anxiety, these lyrics made a lot of sense to me when I relayed them to myself. I grew suicidal when overwhelmed with the feeling of a lifetime of just being the “awkward” kid to everyone. “Don’t make this awkward” is something I’ve heard too many times from others and myself, to the point where I grew comfort in this awkwardness. “show me how to doubt myself, who knows where I’ll be without you?” It makes me so happy to hear Tilian say this. Fuck the haters
@@cat_boy2921 Hell yeah, same feeling I had when I first heard this song. Why would you try to make yourself small for people that don't really care for you and make you feel like you have to "earn" their respect to them. Fuck that, you don't need to validate yourself to anyone!
The best part: "Now and then, I get a little bit full of myself And start dreaming, I can't help it But you're a friend You keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds Show me how to doubt myself. "
DGD is always pretty introspective in that they refuse to take themselves too seriously and often make fun of themselves in their lyrics or just screw around injecting nonsense (jon mess AHEM) but this is a whole new level. The emotional complexity and introspection of being a band member is just a breath of fresh air and a punch in the gut at the same time.
I've listened to Acceptance Speech and Instant Gratification both today and both albums are so great Tilian is putting his stamp on this band. Both albums are completely different from one another and that's what I love with this band each song has it's own feel to it. DGD is life people.
I feel these lyrics deep in my abdomen, in a place of more depth than my heart. Somewhere I can’t quite put a finger on. It doesn’t exist anywhere in anyway that can be observed. Not by beings who’s limited experience is subject to a realm of physical expression. Despite a lack of supporting evidence, I believe the feelings provoked by this song exists in a place some call the Soul.♥️🤟🎵🔊
This is surprisingly metalcore/crunkcore for dgd, but I love it cause it's different from what they usually do and Mess's part is sweet and Tilian's voice is so smooth like God Damn
InChellsMind I didn't mean it in a bad way, Enter Shikari is Crunk Core and they're sweet. I'm just referring to Swan's use of pedals which gives a very a electriconic sound
There's something special about this one. My favorite so far. Really digging the breakdown at the end some bands with their breakdowns these days seem generic but they did this one right !!
It's really awesome to hear Will and Zac work together on a song again. This song is amazing! Wish Zac did more on the album, but this certainly has his feel
WeWereTheStorm Been doing it for a while haha you probably just don't notice because they're normally done in a really unique way. At any rate DGD's breakdowns are still always unique. This is hands down the most generic breakdown I can remember them doing, but it's not bad 1) because they hardly do it and 2) Jon's vocals are dope
I'm honestly convinced this might be one of the most purposefully emotional songs they've put out. Those lyrics are just so up front compared to what they've written.
Pearce Hendy I didn't think anything could top instant gratification, then came mothership, I didn't think anything could top mothership, then came artificial selection, I don't think anything will be able to top artificial selection, but we'll have to wait and see now lmao
Tillian now has 4 albums with the band under his belt, more than any other DGD lead vocalist, they have a solidified line up and have done nothing but progressed with each release, they are an unstoppable force of amazing music and I can't wait to hear what these musical geniuses come up with in the years to come. They've already done so much but imo this is only the beginning, these guys basically are on their way to have a legacy that will make them The Beatles of this era, or something even greater than that, they are fucking pioneers haha
Alex K its funny seeing people jump on the wagon so late, considering many of us have been out here since around 05 and knew how amazing they were from the very beginning. I've always called Swan the Hendrix of our generation. May be kinda crazy but his style is so different and funky. Good for DGD they deserve all the respect in the world for what they've created over the years.
@@americanmetalhead7318 1-2. mothership/acceptance speech 3. artificial selection 4. instant gratification. for me at least, I was never the biggest fan of this album, but this song? top 10 easy.
Creepy Wolf Not every band but look at what happened to SWS after they signed to Epitaph. They turned into complete shit with that godawful and horrid album.
holy shit hahahah i neverrr never tought i could listen a breakdown like that in a dgd song fucking amazing how they can do things like that sound amazing.
After Acceptance Speech I thought I was going to lose my love for this band. Then they bounce back with arguably their best album yet. Tillian just sounds like he fits in so much better, than on Acceptance Speech
Every song has different meanings no matter how you see it..aslong as it takes you to that safe place in your head where the outside world dont matter for that amount of time.is the best feeling music can give..music is medicine and I will be my own doctor...
Wow ... Seems like Jon is back to his screaming ways in The Deathstar Album... which will always be my favorite album ... been a fan since the first started... this album will be amazing... my number two favorite for sure . that break down is so sick!!!!
Best Lyrics: Death of a Strawberry
Heaviest: Shark Dad
Most Creative: Eagle vs. Crows
Most Epic: Variation
Best Overall: Awkward
Hauntsy Wauntsy Yeah I'm gonna say I pretty much agree but I feel Best Overall and Most Epic should be Awkward because no one knew it was going to get that awesome and epic when Jon comes in
It is epic for that part, I just chose Variation because of Tillian's highs and the overall triumphant mood that the song creates all throughout.
Hauntsy Wauntsy nooo the best is the Cuddler for sure
Hauntsy Wauntsy Stroke God Millionaire best overall.. that middle section.. Tilian was legit, Matt was boss.
Stroke God is definitely the one I would have liked to add to this list. Best chorus for sure.
"Just wanted to say something about 'Awkward'. The verses are meant to be sarcastic. The chorus is meant to be from the viewpoint of your oppressors/doubters. crazy stockholm syndrome going on.

I love that Tillian's lyrics sorta make sense and then there's Jon.
Casey Lester Because It's always been DGD's lyrical style for a long time, in a yin yang sort of way that stands out from other bands.
DGD's lyrics have always been kinda strange. Especially Blue Dream. That song used to confuse the ever-living shit out of me.
Nice pfp my dood
“I sniffed the dragons brow” 😂😂😂
“I think the tree is a theif” 😂😂😂
"I think this might be my favorite song on the album"
-Me after every song on the album
Same, to this day in 2019
factsss
SAMMMMEEEEE EVERY SONG I HEAR I FALL MADLY IN LOVE THEY JUST DON'T MISS 🤣😭
This song really speaks to me as someone who has always had to make myself smaller for others and is finally starting to learn how to take up space
"You're too fucking old, Don't make this awkward" lol hilarious. Love it!
The best part:
"Now and then, I get a little bit full of myself
And start dreaming, I can't help it
But you're a friend
You keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds
Show me how to doubt myself. "
i agreeeee i love that part

That opening riff was created using Will Swan's armpit hair as strings. That's how good it is.
This band is like a breath of fresh air. So unique and innovative; arguably the best band Rise has.
BEST BAND EVER
Each song has their own feel which I love from this album.
My new personal anthem c:
That opening riff. I die
Eddy Lazo ^
Eddy Lazo same here lol
kymea10 lovely anthem then ^^
this and shark dad are my favorite songs on this album
+sonicsix569 I agree
Also We Own the Night.
shark dave
sonicsix569 AYEEE
I love the whole album¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I love listening to this at work, while working hard, and also having fun.
I've only been listening to them for a little while but omg that voice! ❤❤❤
the whole album is DOPEEEEEE
New Fan over here.... I can't fucking get enough
check out tides of man, tilians first band :)
Four months after this comment, and I can say the same thing. Discovered these guys three days ago, which means I've been binging on DGD for 72 hours.
I'd give anything to be able to listen to this album or acceptance speech for the first time again.
wait who took your picture ?
Johnny brought the soul, Kurt brought the funk, Tillian brought the pop. And Jon Mess brought the........ Well Jon is in his own world.
Jacob Pollan The most accurate post I've ever read on the internet ever
lmao, gonna post this on every song?
Derek Chandler It's true though hahaha
Jacob Pollan fuck the pop
i swear to god you posted this before
That breakdown is eargasmic.
I've listened to Acceptance Speech and Instant Gratification both today and both albums are so great Tilian is putting his stamp on this band. Both albums are completely different from one
another and that's what I love with this band each song has it's own feel to it. DGD is life people.
Holy crap that breakdown was unexpectedly amazing. Not common for DGD, and they pulled it off perfectly
what?!!?!?!?
Damnnnn, that breakdown was sick af.. ;-;
One of the best songs. Mingus's drumming is killer
jon brings the kick that the song needs thats for sure but damn i like the structure
Me : *starts having some self-esteem*
Tillian : your life is a joke
It’s sarcastic look up lyrics
the intro is my heartbeat.
What an incredible feeling that this music makes me feel 🔥

Ian Aberbach Enter Shikari isn't "crunkcore." BrokeNCYDE or some shit like that is crunkcore
theBOSpaladin101 omfg I didn't mean crunkcore I meant electronicore fuck. Did not mean that
Ian Aberbach lmao
What I love about DGD is that no one album is the same as another
There's something special about this one. My favorite so far. Really digging the breakdown at the end some bands with their breakdowns these days seem generic but they did this one right !!
They never fail to impress me
I literally cannot stop playing this song over and over! This band! This fucking band!
Mess' Part is soooo good. Goddamn.
first time I heard it my eyes opened wide hahahaha, I loved Johns part!
borp12 the lead up is mixed a bit too low imo, but definitely hit me like a truck
Boris Solman I fucking love when DGD does little breakdowns. its not often but it goes hard af
This and Variation are for sure my favorite DGD tracks! Love these guys :)
It's really awesome to hear Will and Zac work together on a song again. This song is amazing! Wish Zac did more on the album, but this certainly has his feel
Arguably the best.
This song reminds me a lot of Anberlin at some stage in there music career. Either way I'm loving it.
When did DGD start doing breakdowns? lol
Burning Down the Nicotine Armoire pt 1 and 2 haha
Also, they have been touring with other bands. Influence is very possible. But DGD will always have THEIR sound. Not the same as others. :P
WeWereTheStorm Been doing it for a while haha you probably just don't notice because they're normally done in a really unique way. At any rate DGD's breakdowns are still always unique. Swan soup has one of the best ones imo
TheCynicalTurtle Hands down. The 2 instrumental breaks in that song are amazing. That's probably one of my top 5 DGD songs
I'm honestly convinced this might be one of the most purposefully emotional songs they've put out. Those lyrics are just so up front compared to what they've written.
This song is pure fucking gold.
I didn't think anything could top Acceptance Speech. I was dreadfully wrong.
Pearce Hendy I didn't think anything could top instant gratification, then came mothership, I didn't think anything could top mothership, then came artificial selection, I don't think anything will be able to top artificial selection, but we'll have to wait and see now lmao

LinkinPark Fanatic Mothership is definitely a lot better than Artificial Selection lmao
@@americanmetalhead7318 1-2. mothership/acceptance speech

all hail dgd
Two bands that I love releasing their albums today. I am so happy
Definitely my favorite so far. Tilian is a god.
Three songs I listened, three songs I love. Excellent band, great song.
Anyone ever catch that meme of how to find your favorite DGD vocalist? We can end the war with this meme. lol
There is no war. If you respect talent above all else, JC is the goat, period.
+Lucas Higgins hell yeah
preach
(talking to lucas)
+Lucas Higgins most naturally talented, yes goat, yes my favorite, no.
I love DGD so much. And I love how literally everyband signed with RiseRecords is amazing.
Creepy Wolf Not every band but look at what happened to SWS after they signed to Epitaph. They turned into complete shit with that godawful and horrid album.
The Guitars are PERFECT!!!
holy shit hahahah i neverrr never tought i could listen a breakdown like that in a dgd song fucking amazing how they can do things like that sound amazing.
Probably my favorite song on the album. So good can't stop listening!

Beautifully written as always
Wow~ this song, just perfect... I need this kind of lyric now... Thanks guys!!

The breakdown kinda reminded me of Backwards Pumpkin Song
I was thinking the same thing!
What if awkward is actually the backward pumpkin song part II o.o lol
Christopher Troncoso The Forwards Pumpkin Song!!
Moses Freih This song has the most Downtown Battle Mountain I vibes so I totally agree with you.
the Backwards Pumpkin Song has been my fav DGD song for YEARS
EVERYONE GO VOTE WILL FOR BEST GUITARIST ON AP!!!!!!
I did and as much as I'd like him to win, Tony Perry will probably win it since it's most likely a popularity contest.
Franco Magofna that or jacky vincent :/
ExplodedConnor Yeah Jacky will probably end up winning, eventhough Will Swan is a fucking savage and is most deserving of the award
I did ^~^ but jacky Vincent can't sweep or finger tap like will he would leave him lost lol
Christopher Troncoso It really should be a physical contest with Judges, over an internet voting contest
this has to be my favorite track
why aren't they more famous yet xD they're amazing.
