There must indeed have been something wrong with your steering. The fiesta is actually praised for it's sporty and direct steering and overal feeling. I've heard people say the Fiesta has the best steering of all it's competitors (better than, polo, ibiza, corsa, 208, clio etc)
What car did you own before buying the Fiesta, the steering feel is definietly not right, for example I was driving it around a short bend and the steering wheel was almost at 90 degrees! If you was to drive a car with a mechanical steering rack over an electric one you would get what I mean 👍🏼
@@PocketRockets I currently drive a 2003 Peugeot 307. It's old and crappy, anything I'd buy now would drive and feel better :P My Fiesta arrives in January.
Nice review but I have no idea what you're on about with the lack of steering feel because it's excellent. Don't know what tires yours came with now and what pressure you're running but I have heard no one complaining about the steering feel up till now(quite the opposite actually). I have the feeling something might be of. I have the 5 door ST Line with the same 18 inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tires and it drives great. Only thing I dislike is that it hasn't got the road sign recognition as standard like the Titanium, don't understand why they saved on this as all the parts are basicly on the car so it's probably just a software thing. And I wish the doors would automaticly lock above 15 mp/h but sadly this can't be engaged by the owner. Looks wise I think this MK8 ST Line is the best looking Fiesta yet and esspecialy the interior is very nice compared to the MK7/7,5.
The steering feel is definietly not right, I've driven most generations of the Fiesta and the steering feedback is the worse I've experienced in the Mk8. Tyres and setup has nothing to do with it (although it does handle superbly), I had the same issue with the Mk3 Focus RS when I owned one 👎🏼 Thanks for watching Ronald, all the best Chris!
Side note, the new ST-line (from Nov 2019) is actually now based on the Titanium. It has all the features of the titanium + the ST-line extras. So it actually comes default with traffic sign recognition, cruise control, arm rest, led lighting etc etc. Source: I just bought one :) Groetjes
Interesting! That's new news to me 👍🏼 I got the car from Ford UK at the beginning of November, so probably will be updating their fleet in the 2020, thanks for watching!
@@razje Nice!(netjes, veel plezier met je nieuwe auto) Can't understand why they didn't come like that from the start. Production wise it often makes more sense to use the same parts in all models. I have the armrest, cruise control, lane assist, nav B&O and ambient lights so it isn't to bad but leaving a safety feature out like traffic sign assist to safe a few euro's on the display is just silly.
@@ronaldvangulden7314 i agree, the steering is much lighter than the mk7,5 But i still feel enough. The car is so much better than the mk7,5 titanium (my former car)
Thanks for watching Conor, appreciate you understanding an opinion 👍 I would say it's all based on your previous car ownership, if you driven city cars for example, the Fiesta's steering is always going to be weighed It's all individual preference, the more I drive the newer generation Fiesta's - I am getting used to it but considering I drive a ST180 on a daily basis, I have to comment on difference in steering feel (especially as it has spread across the Ford range), it's all part of being an honest/non biased reviewer All the best!
Glad to finally hear about the steering problem of the new fiesta in a review. I'm learning to drive in my own fiesta, a 2009 1.4 petrol. Very basic but I absolutely love the steering feel. Can have so much fun even at very low speeds so after reading all the reviews I was pretty excited to try the mk8 fiesta and even found an instructor who had one just so I could try it. It was a titanium 1.0 100hp so not the ST line but trying my model and the mk8 back to back I was so so dissapointed regarding the steering feel and even felt a little unsafe at times driving the car almost like I lost one of my senses. But tbh everything else was improved and the mk8 car feels so stable and agile in a safe way at very high speeds unlike my 2009 fiesta. I was looking forward to getting one of these as my next car but a bit dissapointed now. Also goes to show how ameteur even the well known car reviewers are who didn't bother trying fiesta models back to back and giving a detailed comparison which is something that would interest many people including myself. Question: Do you have any car recomendations for sporty frugal hatch that has a good steering feel (Not mk7 fiesta though).
Hey mate! First of all thanks for watching the video seems to have helped you see your not the only person that thinks the steering is too artificial; a problem that plagues most modern cars nowadays As for your question, I think a current generation Swift Sport is a good alternative to the ST Line in all honesty. Good value for money, £2-3k cheaper too (even more savings on the second hand now), handles superb thanks to it being a lightweight and quite a looker Though, the interior design lacks showing itself up against the Fiesta as Ford have upped their game in that department but my argument has been is it worth all that extra money I have done a few things with the Swift Sport on the channel, feel free to have a look Thanks again for watching, great to provide you with some advice and if you need anything else I'm happy to help 👍
@@PocketRockets Hey bro, I guess the lack of steering feel is a sad and accepted reality now but will defo have a good look at the suzuki swift sport as it strikes me as a fun, good looking little car that isn't dangerously overpowered. Perfect for a beginner. Thanks a lot and keep making the great content! Respect!
Yes Matthias good point! Also, going for electric steering rack, it streamlines their manufacturing process and gives them cost saving plus all modern cars these days are going that way Thanks for watching, appreciate the comment 👍
I've been driving a 2011 s-max which I believe has good steering feel with its hydrolic steering. Would you say this fiesta has less steering feel than my old s-max?
I haven't driven the S Max so couldn't comment, but knowing Ford they probably used the same steering components from the Mk7 Fiesta (which I owned) so yes I would say there is a big difference! Maybe see if you can test drive one at your local dealer and let us know what you think ... Thanks for watching and commenting 👍🏼

I thought the bigger engine may be better but your comments on the steering now concern me. As for insurance costs it one of the only benefits I have of being 70 🤣 Stay safe Ted
Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts Ted! I'd recommend you test drive one still, the steering issue doesn't really bother people used to modern cars, some manufacturers just manage to get it better than others I have recently purchased a Mk7.5 ST180 as I missed it so much from owning one many years ago You can pick them up for cheap these days and personally prefer many of its features against the new Mk8 I.e. the highly tunable 4 cylinder over the newer 3 cylinder unit Videos will be coming on the ST but current circumstances have spoiled it for now 👎🏼 All the best, Chris
@@PocketRockets Thanks Chris after this experience I definitely need to take one for a test drive once I can. PocketRockets you can turn the Eco mode off to get the most performance and you can turn off the stop/start function, but that’s about it. I guess it is a drive mode option at the end of the day.
Yeah not really a drive mode (just a way to help your back pocket on fuel) and stop/start is just an annoyance and loophole made to keep environmental nuts happy, I'm trying to say there should be a Comfort, Sport, Eco selection like you see on the Fiesta ST or most of manufacturers like BMW so the steering feel, throttle position etc can have a different feel depending on the type of driving you want to do; considering it's in the Fiesta ST it's not exactly a task for Ford to implement but hey that's how it goes unfortunately
Depends on lots of variables (where you live, your job, going for a black box etc) I'd say use a insurance comparison website, to see where you can get the best deal 👍🏼 Thanks for watching!
All depends on your finances, when I was your age I did it annually although I had money saved aside to help me; I'd say if your parents can assist you it can help you pay less/no interest compared to doing via the insurer
