When I was younger watching this show for the first time I was SHOCKED they slept together on the first date, now that I'm older I know how long they'd known each other. They were nearly dating for years! Completely understand.
I have to imagine sleeping on the first date is a total "play it by ear" kind of deal. If the connection feels that good, you might as well go all the way on seeing through the first impressions of compatibility. Or something like that. If it's right for the people involved, then they can make that choice that way. Besides, while I know that "sleeping together" is often a euphemism for sex, sometimes can't sleeping together just be, you know, sleeping together? I dunno if it's meant to be implied here that they hit a home run that night as opposed to just staying somewhere on the bases.

Just gonna focus on this because I feel like it... So, at 1:26 in this video, you can see the alarm clock. It's 6:01 in the frame. Now, this episode aired on 10/5/2004, but clearly it cannot be that late in the year when the events of this episode take place; this is is the episode where Rory returns to Yale to begin a new school year, and a school year never begins in October. Now, I can't find a date for when Yale's 2004 fall semester began, but I see that residences for 2022 opened on August 21. We'll use that as a placeholder. Sunrise in CT on August 21 is ~6:05am. So it's kinda close, and obviously there's plenty of light in the sky by the time you reach five minutes prior to sunrise, but we can see out those windows. That's not the twilight of dawn. Just something I noticed that's a little inconsistent, though I'm well aware of why it's not a detail that, in the grand scheme of things, makes any functional difference at all. Something else that kinda clashes though - Luke says on most days that he gets up at 4:45am. He doesn't set his alarm that early for this day, because he already has Caesar opening. He clearly expected that date to go well if he already arranged for one of his employees to open up instead before the date even happened. Eat your hearts out. But that also means he would've actively changed his alarm on this occasion to 6am...yet he's apologizing for not having turned the alarm off. Is he just saying that in the moment because he sees Lorelai got woken up by it? Otherwise, he forgot to turn off an alarm clock that he specifically would've had to change the time on because it wasn't his usual wake up time. Weird.
I don't think Luke assumed that they'd have sex and Loralai would be staying over, although he was probably hopeful. But in general seeing how early Luke goes to bed when he has to open he probably had Caesar open because even if nothing happened just the date itself would put him getting to bed late. Which may explain the whole forgot to turn off the 6 am alarm. Even when he doesn't have to open Luke strikes me as an early riser so 6 am may be the time he was planning to get up even with Caesar opening. But then things did go well and Lorelai did stay over however he forgot to turn off the 6 am alarm he had set for himself.

I understand some people may not like him because of the ways he broke up with Rory, I understand that I thought it was cruel, but don’t make him at all toxic. When Jess came into town he tried not let it ruin his relationship with Rory but when he saw them cosy he was obviously gonna confront her and Jess made it really hard for him to just forget but I think dean was actually really understanding in that situation I think way to understanding. He was also good in the sense of never forcing her to do anything she didn’t want to do like Jess did, and he was so loyal and kind. Ik that he cheated on his wife with her and I guess that can be considered toxic but part from that I liked him he was loyal and sweet. I can’t believe I’m gonna say this but at times I think Luke was a bit more toxic than him but you ain’t ready for that conversation. And I know dean broke up with her in a harsh way but the reasons was fair enough
So the way you tried to move everything around and past the cheater aspect is really weird to me.. Dean was cute when he was a kid in high school, he's exactly what you want your first boyfriend to be but Dean as an adult is a whole other story. He lied, he went behind his spouse's back, he cheated on Lindsay, emotionally, physically and mentally and Lindsay was a nice person and didn't deserve that. Now, we all know Rory is no angel, she's perpetuated terrible outcomes in her relationships through her own thoughtless decisions. She's a creature of habit, if she doesn't get what she wants from one she'll seek it out in another partner. She did it to Dean with Jess, again back to Dean who was married, when she was back with Dean she went to Logan and with Logan kissed Jess (and after he found out she was still with Logan he said to Rory he didn't deserve that). And in the revival she was cheating with Logan who was engaged.. It's wasn't completely Dean's fault as Rory was pushing an intimate friendship on a married man as if nothing ever happened. But Dean made Lindsay feel so bad, like nothing she did was good enough even when she tried so hard and just dragged her around for convenience. And after it happened, acted like a jerk and made it feel like it was her fault and SHE apologized even when she didn't even have to.. THAT's toxicity. Again, he's not a terrible person, he's just completely tied up and enamored with Rory that he gives no thought to anyone else.
I swear that Jess stans are so brainwashed, if a guy in real life really treated them the way Jess treated Rory they would be fucking crying and complaining about it all the time
