... and after a bit more play, I realized that in order to attack with a normal weapon you just move towards an enemy WITH the rhythm. I thought I had to hold a button down like you do with throwing an object (because in that instance you have to hold B and the direction you want to throw). Now that I figured that out, I am doing much better. Still, the tutorial didn't mention how to attack normally when I went through.
It's easier to understand on PC where you tap Up and Down on the beat before you throw- no holding the B button down to throw I'd guess makes it clearer that you don't need to hold down to attack.
I’m glad you did this first impressions! If you keep playing it you should definitely do a review. This reminds of a game I played at Pax West that was a 1-4 player shootemup where you can only shoot and run on the beat. I was terrible at it 😂 So it might take a me a bit to get use to it. Hopefully with Cadence of Hyrule it does a good job at teaching the mechanic.
Yeah the combat mechanic was the biggest point of confusion for me. I cut the tutorial out of the video (so that the video wouldn't be 30 minutes long), but the first attack they teach you is how to throw a dagger. They never teach you how to attack enemies next to you which is probably your main source of attack. After a couple of runs, I was able to use trial and error to figure it out. I'm addicted now and will probably do a review after I get better (I'm actually thinking about posting another video tomorrow now that I have a better handle over the controls). I'm still pretty terrible at it though. Ive always been bad at dungeon crawlers. :)
@@SwitchMania you'll get much better as you unlock stuff, and don't forget to use bard to practice! (Hope your teeth feel better soon, it's always a rough heal with molar removals)
Staying on beat gets a lot more important when you face off against enemies that move faster or have more dangerous patterns, but strictly speaking the only character where beat-keeping is CRITICAL is the third unlocked story character (and the secret challenge character, Coda) who die on a missed beat.
This game can suck if you're playing with pro controller cause d-pad out there sucks ass, like BIG BIG ASS. So, joycon buttons are better, much precisely. Or hori d-pad definetly-not-joycon. Or fixed d-pad on pro controller. Also, I bought it about 2-3 months ago for like $2 on sale. I'm sorry. And don't skip tutorial please :< Some advices: Playing on the beat is more connected to the beat down there on the screen than actual music beat. It's important because once you miss the beat you miss the action and can take damage. Try to train in the lobby to learn patterns. It's really fun game once you figure it out. And play bard if you're not feeling the beat just to learn the game, he doesn't care about beats. Love ya, see ya.
I completed the tutorial but I edited it out of the video (quite smoothly I might add). The original length of the video was like 35 minutes. I was trying to cut some parts out so the video wouldn't be as long. I'll probably do an update video tonight or tomorrow. I'm really enjoying this game! Also, I totally agree. It's way easier with joycons than the pro controller for sending reason. Thanks for the advice! I'm typically not great at dungeon crawlers to begin with and this one seems extra challenging due to the rhythm aspect.

and now I am hooked. This game is addicting! Getting better but still haven't cleared zone 1 yet.
tutorial? Didn't you skip it? Lol
@@funashimi nope. Edited it out. One of my smoothest edits I've ever done.
@@SwitchMania yeah, didn't notice it at all lol

You didn't seem too close to the camera, you looked good.
