Once there was an expirement done where a group of monkeys was placed in a room with a pole to climb. When a monkey climbed to the top, the floor became electrified and the monkeys recieved a shock. It didn't take long for the monkeys to beat one another if they climbed the pole. Eventually they turned off the shocks, and would replace one of the original monkeys with a new one who had never experienced the shop. When he tried to climb the pole, he was beaten, and learned to beat other monkeys when they tried. Once the entire original group was replaced, the new monkeys would beat on one another for trying to climb, despite never having experienced the shock

I’ve literally had rounds where I’ve waited hours, and then had to go so I decided on capping so I could get it over with and get the xp I wanted from the match already (I had about 200 points nearly). I do this, and right as I’m at the top of the tower, about to cap, autobalance fucks me over. If this weren’t worse enough, nearly everyone on the server begins to harass me (namely on the team I was just autobalanced onto) and start trash talking me for actually trying to cap. Since I was now on a team that hated my guts because they’re sad basement-dwelling bitches, one of them initiated a vote, and pretty much all of them voted to kick me off. @Cheems It’s a fun challenge to cap on Hightower for the XP, if the nerds that don’t want XP want to play Hightower for hours not pushing the payload they can play on one of the hundreds of thousands of 24/7 Hightower maps.
It's really just how Hightower has changed as a map. Of course I'd imagine when it was introduced people actually tried to play it, but because it is so fucking hard to cap even with multiple people. People started to hate doing the objective for it, but they really liked the map because of the verticality and the fact that if you were to be a friendly you could sit in spots away from the main action and properly mess around. I'd imagine SoundSmith also influenced the culture of the map because him playing Trolldier and him saying how he feels about the map likely made more people go trolldier and mess around instead of playing the objective, and eventually everyone just accepted that. For me I only get annoyed at someone capping if they're doing it to intentionally piss people off or just out of spite. Contracts are whatever but you could've chosen a better map. Quite honestly most people think Hightower is a TDM, so it should be treated as such. If people are not treating it as TDM then that's fine, it isn't. Idk, I think it really is a tradition thing, but really, Hightower is just a really bad Payload map, so many chokepoints that can be camped (AND THE GODDAMN CLIFD) if people wanted to along the track, but really most maps are like that, it's just Hightower is so small that its way too crowded for 12v12 Payload, (but alternate gamemodes are not popular anyways)and just dogpiling on the cart, but for TDM and plain tf2 fun it's really perfect, good height for practise jumping, long memey and stupidly designed sightlines (but the rock is a good way to block it). and plus, its a alternate gamemode, so most of the time there aren't enough players, so people just go friendly, and we don't want to get into the debate about tryhards and friendlies (again, watch Soundsmith's 50/50 rule. ). but to be completely honest, it's just one of those quirks of the TF2 Community, there is no way to take away the toxic, chaotic, funny, undying culture of the community at all, and people have tried, and got absolutely pummeled, and got deaththreats and bullied into the ground, sadly (e.g the march 15 incident). Hightower is just a part of the tf2 culture that probably shouldn't change, personally I had way too many fun memories on Hightower, because it was the only chill place during 2020's bot crisis, and the guarantee of friendlies. It's something I probably want everyone to experience once.
What I hate is that they are spreading from Hightower to 2Fort and I have a worrying feeling they are going colonize in other maps like Upward or Dustbowl. No cappers are as toxic as tryhards that want to win for reactions.
What makes Hightower and 2fort different is the lack of a timer. Upward and dustbowl both have timers, and anyone who thinks that “no cappers” are “infecting” is actually idiotic.
To be honest, unlike most ppl who cap on hightower who just like fucking up the fun for everyone and they don't even like playing hightower you're reasons for liking it are pretty good. I would say that you should go to a tryhard hightower server, but then you would get help from you're teamm8ts.
i dont try to kick or rage in the chat at people who cap hightower, but i do kinda dislike it for one reason: it breaks the flow of the game for the people who dont cap. it sends them back to spawn, and if its the team's second time capping, it scrambles the teams and gets rid of their killstreaks and dominations. but these are relatively minor points, because if both teams played the objective the matches would probably be more interesting
ok so here's my take note: 5 cp has a timer, ctf and plr don't for some reason. i am fine with people capping on hightower, i just don't encourage it because of these: (1) Valve is dumb. so lets compare banana bay and that other 2 to hightower banana bay has a payload cart that wraps around the island one of them has 2 ramps that lead up, what is on those ramps? the payload tracks! i haven't played the other one however so feel free to use that as a point and hightower over here is the definition of "ehhhh let's push it to the side" and they added so much battle space that it's obvious this is meant to be tf2's version of tdm oh and the reason that valve is dumb is because they just made ONE SINGLE map battle-based (2) "Hey so can we get the most gameply out of this or no? this one is simple, it takes about a minute to cap, however if you battle, it takes substantially more time to cap, giving you more time to try out cool strats, which leads into the 3rd point (3) Does the design of the tracks look good? no! of course not! the map is screaming for you to try stupid and dumb strats! you simply have more time to have fun! although it can feel really stupid when you just took 5 minutes to get a match and it's hightower since you happened to turn on alternative modes so the moral that i did not adress is to only cap if doing contracts, or getting xp.
I do not cap on hightower, as it usually has silly playing players and trolldiers/friendlies and because it just ruins the fun for the other who dont want to cap which is mostly the majority. so capping on hightower could lead to people leaving or people trying to votekick you as most players dont want to cap
ok so hear me out this might be a stretch but if you want to play on hightower and not push the cart why dont you exit the match and join a no cart hightower server
5 months late, because you dont see the same silliness and flawless flow of casual gameplay in community servers, plus its more likely for valve to put you in a full lobby with decent ping
Okay, I went and watched his video, these are my thoughts: He says the rematch vote almost never passes, from anecdotal evidence I can say this is no longer the case. "If rematches can consistently happen, then someone capping just means waiting for the victory time to end" - SoundSmith 2016, so I think he'd agree with me that in current TF2 someone capping on hightower does not ruin the fun of everyone messing around. "And if people still complained after that, well... I don't know what to tell you" - SoundSmith 2016. He does make a good point about why people might not want to go to community servers, but overall I do believe he would agree with me.
@@nutsyear but it's true. It's perfectly okay to cap now because in this very video (if you even watched it) you can requeue again in a neat and tidy fashion. There is no need for the hate.
When you cap on Hightower, you have to wait for another game to load up. People don’t like to have to wait to respawn, of course they’re also not going to like to wait to load into a new match.
Last night i capped and a group of people (im pretty sure they were in theyre twenties) were SCREAMING at me (im only 12) and right after the seconds round i was pushing the cart and git kicked because of those guys.
At one point i was really close to capping on highertower which is hightower except really long but for some reason the enemy team killed me anyways like come on it was right there theres not even any footage of anybody capping on highertower i thought the reason why people didnt wanna cap and shit was cause they were bored of winning so they just decided to fuck around but nobody has ever won or lost on highertower
I always assumed it was because TF2 has no real DM mode. So two maps in particular became sort of "unofficial" DM maps, 2fort and Hightower. I had no clue objectiveless versions of the maps existed though Also hey, homophobia is bad! Good to know you've got human decency, honestly.
Capping nowadays is really bad because when you cap always some people leave, sometimes almost the entire enemy/your own team. That's just how it happens, after people leave bots join the game. And it becomes a real pain in the ass to kick these bots. It's really hard to find a hightower server not infested with bots, and when you do finally find one people cap, bots come again. I used to cap too but when i realized it doesnt do anything other than most likely bringing bots to the game and ruining everyone's fun. You might say that i should join a hightower community server with no cap, but i cant since all of them are too high ping for me and a lot of those servers crash my fps for some reason. I do not votekick in anyway people capping though, that's just abusing the voting system. We should try to focus on kicking bots/cheaters. And we shouldnt bring more bots to the game by capping. Because when you cap all you get is some worthless cosmetic XP points, and potentially bringing bots to the game. Even though capping might be fun, i dont think it's worth it to potentially ruin everyone's fun even for 10 mins of pain trying to kick the bots. I dont know why people leave after the game ends, could be rage quit but they always do. If there wasnt so many people quitting the game after the game was over, i dont think this would be a issue. You might say you are on hightower for doing your contracts, but i dont really think it's the best place for it since the games always take forever. I just leave the game when im bored from hightower, i dont try to end the game and bring bots. I realize that this is a somewhat old video, but wasnt the bot crisis still there when this video was published? Not sure.
Because loading screens are too long. I dont want to trade for a buff banner and you can get it from winning 2 payload races and from 2 pass games. I want to get it legitimately from the game just to say I did it.
I think people that act like that on Hightower should really just be aware that capping _is_ the official goal in TF2. Though I do think more players would be ok with capping if there was a time limit like in Regular Payload and it's a stalemate when neither cart makes it. The same could be said with other Payload Race maps.
I mean... I don't cap, but if someone else is capping. I don't give a fuck lol, I just defend my hightower (if enemy team is capping) or help my team cap (if my team is capping).
This is the reason I dont play PLR (payload race) because every server is on hightower and prevents capping because these people's version of fun is to sit in a corner and feed people sanviches, which is VERY boring i tried it once. Market garden, which is fairly fun. And walk around and just kill people which is kind of fun. These 3 groups in conjunction kick you for capping for no apparent reason. In conclusion just play payload, go into payload settings and turn off maps like badwater and upward if you think those maps are dried out. In conclusion Just play payload if you want to cap, not like anyone there caps anyways from my experiences.
look buddy i know your weakness, a SNIPER, so haha try capping alone Look buddy at least me i have this rules when to cap? After an hour of tedious playing If you see a Sentry If you have contracts If the other team is trying capping too
Luke. am a capper on htower. i can COMPLETELY agree of what you are saying. but i have recieved a different reason. they said "I dont want the game to end" and "Players can change another map that isnt hightower, but we dont want to change at all we want to stay on hightower" And you are saying. just vote for higher tower that i can very agree on. the ending the game isn't going to change anything in my opinion, just vote the map. also ive played tf2 for over a year now so i can COMPLETELY know what you are saying and why they are kicking us is stupid. if they vote for hightower, and not complain and have fun is a Win Win.
Most frustrating thing when it's your first time on hightower and you don't know about this stupid 'rule'. Don't even get a second to think or jump off cap before getting kicked, smh.
this is a quite old video by now but I still hope you read this. since you like online hate, I wont give it to you. YES it might be my own BIAS BUT I don't care, here is my reason to not do the objective- ending a game causes mass leavers and its depressing to get back into the game and have just a fifth of what the server used to be. Funny how you claim that we should respect the votes and such while you also say that you want to do the objective against the majority of the people in the server, hypocritical don't you think. if your way to have fun is actively malicious or downright stops people from having fun then, at that point you should stop being inconsiderate about other peoples fun. Ill give you this, YES its hard to "win". YES its accelerating to fight 12 people while attempting to hold your ground, and i appreciate you saying that you leave alone friendlies (if you aren't lying to give yourself a better light). Due to the Map, and the Difficulty, people go there to train rocket jumping, to meme, to 1v1, to tdm etc... one good video that has a Hightower example would be Soundsmith's 50/50 rule video. On that note, with all due respect, I hope I don't come across you.
the reason people don't like it when someone caps is because it 1.postpones the fun of the match. 2. makes them lose a killstreak or advantage's they might have had 3. it might have stopped them from doing something like killing someone, getting a domination or revenge and 4. since people don't want the match to end, they gang up on you, and when you kick everyone's ass, that is not fun for them, and you said that you do not want to stomp on anyone's fun, and, sure in a regular match of TF2, getting killed is not all that bad, but when your whole team is getting their ass's kicked, you are bound to not have any fun. also, the right way to play is not yet determined until the community decides what IS the original way the game was meant to be played. also, why do you oppose homophobia? nothing wrong with it, though this video IS over a year old, so hopefully your opinions have changed. how about you ask to cap on high tower before you do? still, good video.
Aaaaand why dont these people go in servers that simply modified to not having carts on map? I mean in casual i want my exp and contract, and if i want dm for fun im going in community servers, i just dont get it, why they playin casual and getting salty when someone tryin to play by the rules of game?
I am a noob ftp. I was capping high tower and having fun for once, I won the goddamn game. But when I tried to do it a second time I got vote kicked for SCAMMING. Nobody even told me not to cap, nobody focus fired me, nobody gave an indication that it was wrong to play the fucking game. That was one of my first matches in the game, and I haven't played tf2 since. People like that are what drive new players away from the game.
I can't speak for the current state of the game, because I haven't played it much during the bot crisis, but I can say that in my experience, and the historical context that this video was made in most people did not leave the game when a match ended. Of course I realise that this is only anecdotal evidence, which is really not evidence at all, but it's the best I can give at current time. I'm sorry if people leave your hightower games, that must suck. Thanks for the engagement with the video.
Cuz you are interrupting the flow of the game the others want, and im sorry but if the majority wants to they have to reight to kick you just for the heck of it. Good or bad is irrelevant, they want the map to be something and the majority agrees on that, you, as the minority, should just leave the server and play another map.
At the time of making the video the bot crisis had not started, and if people leave that's because they want to. It would be worse to keep them hostage in a match of hightower.
@@lukemoppy You don't keep them hostage, they can leave when they want, it's just that ending the match makes a lot of them leave at once instead of one by one which opens up the server to bots

This is probably the best point ive seen for not capping on hightower, and i agree with it
Hightower sucks as a payload race map so we make it a tdm map. Deal with it.
I think you were very brave for going against the public opinion and giving your ideas, that is an amazing thing to do.
"I just want to have fun by capturing the objective"
CTF Players: NO!
ok so here's my take
note: 5 cp has a timer, ctf and plr don't for some reason. i am fine with people capping on hightower, i just don't encourage it because of these:
(1) Valve is dumb. so lets compare banana bay and that other 2 to hightower
banana bay has a payload cart that wraps around the island
one of them has 2 ramps that lead up, what is on those ramps? the payload tracks!
i haven't played the other one however so feel free to use that as a point
and hightower over here is the definition of "ehhhh let's push it to the side"
and they added so much battle space that it's obvious this is meant to be tf2's version of tdm
oh and the reason that valve is dumb is because they just made ONE SINGLE map battle-based
(2) "Hey so can we get the most gameply out of this or no?
this one is simple, it takes about a minute to cap, however if you battle, it takes substantially more time to cap, giving you more time to try out cool strats, which leads into the 3rd point
(3) Does the design of the tracks look good? no! of course not! the map is screaming for you to try stupid and dumb strats! you simply have more time to have fun! although it can feel really stupid when you just took 5 minutes to get a match and it's hightower since you happened to turn on alternative modes
so the moral that i did not adress is to only cap if doing contracts, or getting xp.
Watch SoundSmith’s video on Capping on Hightower to find out why this exist
I will watch it and get back to you
Okay, I went and watched his video, these are my thoughts: He says the rematch vote almost never passes, from anecdotal evidence I can say this is no longer the case.
@@lukemoppy I can take a clip out of context and make it look like it’s on my side of the argument
Ive capped highertower once, crowning achievement for me
It certainly is an achievement, that's why I love it so
Tbh, the only time i played on a Hightower server was when i 1v1 another Scout and won. Never saw him/her again, tbh
Last night i capped and a group of people (im pretty sure they were in theyre twenties) were SCREAMING at me (im only 12) and right after the seconds round i was pushing the cart and git kicked because of those guys.
I like how u said u dont kill friendlies and u just did
At one point i was really close to capping on highertower which is hightower except really long but for some reason the enemy team killed me anyways like come on it was right there theres not even any footage of anybody capping on highertower i thought the reason why people didnt wanna cap and shit was cause they were bored of winning so they just decided to fuck around but nobody has ever won or lost on highertower
I always assumed it was because TF2 has no real DM mode. So two maps in particular became sort of "unofficial" DM maps, 2fort and Hightower. I had no clue objectiveless versions of the maps existed though
Also hey, homophobia is bad!
Not sure.
If they leave, that’s not my fault.
@@Sydney_Angelyt it kinda is
@@kila3477 I have every right to play the game and do the objective
@@Sydney_Angelyt yes you do, thats why you shouldnt get kicked. I'm just saying its not the optimal thing to do in the bot crisis
@@Sydney_Angelyt and we have every right to kick you out of the server for not obeying server's generally agreed "Do Not Cap" rule
Beatboxes agressively
I don't cap on Hightower, but if you cap, then that's fine.
So whatev
I've seen a few people respond in a similar way, I must say I find that a completely respectable and agreeable standpoint. Thanks for watching!
Just a few hours ago I just finished match of high tower that took 3 goddam hour
congratulations man, you survived
If you want a cap play a map with a time limit.
why? Maybe for us no time limit is fun even if we wanna cap.
Because loading screens are too long. I dont want to trade for a buff banner and you can get it from winning 2 payload races and from 2 pass games. I want to get it legitimately from the game just to say I did it.
cause waiting 60 seconds for a vote for the next map sucks
Hear that people your weak threats wont stop us from playing the game
I think people that act like that on Hightower should really just be aware that capping _is_ the official goal in TF2. Though I do think more players would be ok with capping if there was a time limit like in Regular Payload and it's a stalemate when neither cart makes it. The same could be said with other Payload Race maps.
i dont care about capping. i dont do it but i dont try to kick people who do it thats a bit ridiculous
There's a cart on Hightower?
Average Hightower capper fan vs average highertower capper enjoyer.
I mean... I don't cap, but if someone else is capping. I don't give a fuck lol, I just defend my hightower (if enemy team is capping) or help my team cap (if my team is capping).
i hate the fact that there is a hightower contract, it's so FUCKING ANNOYING, why did they make a contract about HIGHTOWER.
this guy is the main villain
Mwuhahahhahahahah
This is the reason I dont play PLR (payload race) because every server is on hightower and prevents capping because these people's version of fun is to sit in a corner and feed people sanviches, which is VERY boring i tried it once. Market garden, which is fairly fun. And walk around and just kill people which is kind of fun. These 3 groups in conjunction kick you for capping for no apparent reason. In conclusion just play payload, go into payload settings and turn off maps like badwater and upward if you think those maps are dried out.
In conclusion Just play payload if you want to cap, not like anyone there caps anyways from my experiences.
3:41 ah i love tf2 ragdolls
Is this a joke?
look buddy i know your weakness, a SNIPER, so haha try capping alone
Look buddy at least me i have this rules
when to cap?
After an hour of tedious playing
If you see a Sentry
If you have contracts
If the other team is trying capping too
you dont really play hightower to cap well most people anyway so you trying to cap just comes off guard
People no want u cap people angery
I hate hightower and I hate that hightower contract, it's awful
its a shame because hightower is such a dynamic and interesting map that the community has killed.
Luke. am a capper on htower. i can COMPLETELY agree of what you are saying. but i have recieved a different reason. they said "I dont want the game to end" and "Players can change another map that isnt hightower, but we dont want to change at all we want to stay on hightower"
And you are saying. just vote for higher tower that i can very agree on. the ending the game isn't going to change anything in my opinion, just vote the map. also ive played tf2 for over a year now so i can COMPLETELY know what you are saying and why they are kicking us is stupid. if they vote for hightower, and not complain and have fun is a Win Win.
trolldiers and mini sentry engineers in the comments be sweatin

Unpopular opinions and rambling
@@nutsyear I see you everywhere trying to start a hate train on this guy.
the reason people don't like it when someone caps is because it 1.postpones the fun of the match. 2. makes them lose a killstreak or advantage's they might have had 3. it might have stopped them from doing something like killing someone, getting a domination or revenge and 4. since people don't want the match to end, they gang up on you, and when you kick everyone's ass, that is not fun for them, and you said that you do not want to stomp on anyone's fun, and, sure in a regular match of TF2, getting killed is not all that bad, but when your whole team is getting their ass's kicked, you are bound to not have any fun. also, the right way to play is not yet determined until the community decides what IS the original way the game was meant to be played. also, why do you oppose homophobia? nothing wrong with it, though this video IS over a year old, so hopefully your opinions have changed.
how about you ask to cap on high tower before you do?
still, good video.
Hahahaha your most popular videos are you complaining about stuff. I would tap that well my friend
I can't force myself to be mad about things, but if I am, I will definitely consider making a video on it
Its against the law
Aaaaand why dont these people go in servers that simply modified to not having carts on map? I mean in casual i want my exp and contract, and if i want dm for fun im going in community servers, i just dont get it, why they playin casual and getting salty when someone tryin to play by the rules of game?
underrated video
Nobody stays after the round ends
They stay most of the times I have capped
lolo yeah
I am a noob ftp. I was capping high tower and having fun for once, I won the goddamn game. But when I tried to do it a second time I got vote kicked for SCAMMING. Nobody even told me not to cap, nobody focus fired me, nobody gave an indication that it was wrong to play the fucking game. That was one of my first matches in the game, and I haven't played tf2 since. People like that are what drive new players away from the game.
And why don’t you use the pholg? It’s a great weapon and makes no one mad! If I use it then we have fun because I do and-
WE HAVE FUN!
Yeah! I can play natasha heavy and farm points of of you.
Edit: off*
guy
sounds like the words of a european a socialist european
Gay capper! At least I’m a straight capper!😂
Yes, we will both have fun when everyone that was in the sever leaves when the game done
Hello there I see you trying to form arguments for not capping
Simple, trolls and grifers do not allow you to do so. The trolldiers and sniper with god like aim will target you like you off their family members.
lame
Cuz you are interrupting the flow of the game the others want, and im sorry but if the majority wants to they have to reight to kick you just for the heck of it. Good or bad is irrelevant, they want the map to be something and the majority agrees on that, you, as the minority, should just leave the server and play another map.
Just hypothetically, if the majority of players on a server are unapologetically racist, do they have the right to kick all racial minorities?
@@lukemoppy That example is too extreme and has, honestly, nothing to do with what this video is abaout. We are talking about gameplay.
This right here is a prime example of an idiot. If you want to play deathmatch, go do it on a dedicated community server where the carts don't exist.
called payload race for a reason
So you like ending the round so a bunch of people leave and then the bots overtake the server, what a great guy
