@Waltina Woodard Welcome to BTS. Dynamite is a song BTS released during the pandemic to cheer their fans up. It is very pop and what people think KPop is but BTS actually cover multiple genres and started more like a hip hop group. They can really rap. I can recommend watching the video called BTS Festa Room Live 2021 to get a feel for their musical diversity. Exciting to have a new listener 💜

Dynamite was my first meeting with BTS (YT recommended their VMA performance of it) and I thought "Ok, that was kinda fun" and got curious. Then I randomly picked Epiphany live... 🤯‼️
I bawled my eyes out over the lyrics and was immediately hooked! The saying goes that BTS finds you when you need them the most and omg was that ever true in my case. Epiphany completely changed my way of thinking, pulled me out of a very dark place, inspired me to make some difficult but much needed drastic changes to my life and it's become my life mantra. I've never connected with an artist/group of artists like that before. I'm forever grateful to them and the community I've found in ARMY aka my purple family.

His background is contemporary dance as you notice. He has worked super hard to become a singer. In one of the BTS Bon Voyage episodes. Jimin said he really wanted to work harder to become better singer and all the other members were so supportive and said he was already a good singer. These guys are supportive of each other all the time.

Yes. It's a happy song on purpose. They wrote it during the pandemic. They decided not to write any deep or emotional songs during the pandemic. They knew the world needing cheering up. It's the same with "Butter" and "Permission to Dance". They made the decision to perform in English to reach more of the world. Plus the U.S. radio stations were not playing their Korean songs. So they went to English and they exploded in the U.S. All the songs went to #1 on Billboard and stayed for weeks. They broke records. And started getting nominated for Grammy's.

I am a 64 year old ARMY from Canada. I discovered them in Feb/20 before they had ever released any "all english" songs. Honestly, when this first dropped I had mixed feelings. It appealed to my "disco youth" but I hated that it reinforced to some degree the stereotype that always surrounded BTS as just another bubblegum pop boyband. What it did achieve though, was introducing themselves to a whole new group of western fans that then took a deep dive into the rest of their deeper discography. They write the bulk of their Korean songs themselves, but their english songs were written by others. The group has well over 300 songs as a group and as soloists and I have to say about 290 songs are on my playlist. They rarely have a miss. I'm not sure if you noticed the nods to Michael Jackson....some in the choreography and some in the lyrics (Off The Wall was the name of an MJ album). MJ's nephew thanked BTS for paying tribute to his uncle (they have great respect for MJ). Could I suggest a couple of videos to react to? One is Tiny Desk Concert (they sing 3 songs...one being Dynamite). Here is the link with english subs ruclips.net/video/gFYAXsa7pe8/видео.html . The other recommendation is to their Room Live video. It contains a medley of snippets from 7 of their songs in chronological order to give you a taste of some of the diversity of their music Here is the link ruclips.net/video/-J-IM2hLBUc/видео.html . Yes, I'm not young - at all 🙂- and I have never in my lifetime seen a band that has had so much influence on so many people. I'm not talking about the music, but about their lives. You will be amazed how many people say BTS literally saved their lives or that "BTS finds you when you need them the most". They have so many genres of music that most folks probably don't care for every song but they have an insane amount of online content, a lot of it hysterical because they're just funny - whatever you watch you'll never walk away not feeling a little happier or in some cases downright motivated or moved in some way.

Their choreography. They are The Best of any group in the world ever. Here's why. When they started out their company was almost bankrupt. And it was a very small unknown company. Only the popular companies were getting asked to be on music shows. The first time when they debuted..they were a fill in for a group that had cancelled. Their creator and boss, Mr. Bang, told them we have to do something bold so even though we're poor and unknown we need to make an impression on the audience so they will never forget us. He decided they should excel at choreography. He hired a great choreographer. And they practiced and practiced and practiced until they literally were perfect. Practicing for hours was common when they started out. When I found them I watched BTS content Every Day. I never saw a dance mistake until 6 months in. I'm a choreograper so I knew how to look for mistakes even little ones. And still to this day...they dance in perfect unison, dance creative and exciting never seen before choreography, and rehearse until they are perfect. So that is their reputation. THE BEST at choreography.

So this was their first Grammy nomination. They are also the first band to be nominated three years in a row for Best Pop Dro/Group performance (and still no wins). We don't care, they don't care, but the Grammy is the only thing they haven't won, I think. We love them and when they released "Dynamite" my then 13 year old granddaughter went ballistic. Their U.S. fan base exploded. The song wasn't penned by BTS but by David Stewart and Jessica Agombar. Big Hit reached out to them for a catchy tune and the rest is history. Their Grammy performance is super awesome as well as are all of their live performances. They push to make every single performance better than the last and "Dynamite" is no exception.

I wouldn’t really say “design” because while yes they wanted a good song they didn’t “design” the song to get as big as it did. They even tried writing the lyrics in Korean but it didn’t sound as good so they stuck with English. Actually they did talk about how they were very weary about releasing a full English song, but decided to do it anyway. What they were not excepting was how big the song got. They did not except them to get even bigger and even getting popular (especially in the west). I mean no offense though…

@@crazyoldgrandma6935 I still stand by what I said. Just because they didn’t know what direction to go they decided on releasing Dynamite as a way to cope (which they did say) but not a projection of trying to dominating the west. If they didn’t know where to go then how could their projection be their when they didn’t know?? That doesn’t make sense. Now if you argued about Butter I would understand more. However their plans to dominate I will still disagree. Yes for Butter they did see it as a way to try again in Grammys (like we said earlier they didn’t have a projection and they started seeing one so they thought why not and try), but dominate no. As for PTD that wasn’t in their plans either but a gift. As a gift it wasn’t planned because they couldn’t plan it since it had to be given to them…just my opinion and thoughts and things they said…no hate or offense. Have a good day/night.

I feel like I just made a new friend ! Thank you for this video and the other BTS song reactions.

  • @AJP.OT7
    @AJP.OT7 Год назад +1

Thanks for reacting!!! Dynamite is such a good bop and such a great song to lift you up (which is the purpose of the song).
I have seen many people in the comments saying the song was "supposed to dominate the west", "doesn't have a message" etc. I will respectfully agree and disagree.
    1. BTS never try do "dominate the west/world". They got the song, but they did try to change the lyrics to Korean, but it didn't sound as good, so they stuck to English. They have talked about how different languages have different textures, tones, etc. RM recently said he doesn't want to be "blocked" by genre but also language as well, because it is another tool for producing/composing/writing.
    2. The members were surprised how big the song was and didn't expect it.
    3. IDK but so many ARMY (not all) have such a negative thought about the songs because it is in English and not written by them and maybe because it isn't super deep.
-With it being in English, so what, I don't see the problem with it. Even maybe they used English a little to get into the west more why is that a big deal (which I don't think they used English for this purpose but more because the texture/tones of how English sounds). I mean to enter the Japanese market they sang their songs in Japanese; it is hard to get in that market (yes, I understand not as hard as the west but still) it is how BTS entered it (don't get me wrong I wish in the west we were more accepting of other languages but still). Also, I do understand that their original Japanese songs have deep lyrics and a certain emotional feeling to most of them, but BTS did rewrite their songs in Japanese to get in the market (especially in their earlier years)
-About it not being written by them I do understand where people are coming from, but I think a great artist not only knows how to make their own music but can recognize a great song/beat when they hear it. About the song not being deep I have two points for this. ONE: while not every line of the song has a deep meaning and co-exist to make a huge deeper meaning, it does have a couple lines that I think can have actual meaning, "Ladies and gentlemen, I got the medicine | So you should keep ya eyes on the ball, huh | This is getting heavy, can you hear the bass boom? I'm ready (woo-hoo)". These lines I interpret that if are willing to watch/listen to them they can help us aka give us "medicine". The next line says that "this is getting heavy" but what is? I think "it" can be whatever one is dealing with, it could be covid because this was when the song was released, etc. If we will watch/listen to BTS they can help us give hope, comfort, guidance, etc. TWO: music sometimes doesn't need deep lyrics to have a huge impact in the world. Instrumental music for example can have a huge impact on people and it doesn't have lyrics, this can include just a beat can impact people. Personally, as someone who became ARMY between Dynamite and Butter era, I do think Dynamite had a positive change not just the west, but the world. I personally feel it started bringing more joy and motivation to people during the times, which is why it had such a big impact. Also, in a time when things are hard sometimes the best songs don't have deep messages but put you in a certain mood and I think Dynamite, Butter, and PTD do this.
    4. I also think their full English songs unites the fandom even more. I will be honest I only speak English (unfortunately) but sometimes it is just nice to be able to sing every word with confidence. Don't get me wrong I don't have a problem with listening to songs in other languages, but even if it is one song it can be nice every once in a while. Also, English people usually learn even a little around the world (even if you like it or disagree with it)
Anyways this is getting too long but these are some of my thoughts and opinions.

Hi, fun Dynamite facts: JK drinks milk so there is no bad influence, Suga loves basketball and is an excellent player, V honors MJ on his ‘off the wall’ line, and lastly, V is the “ending fairy” on much of their programming. They also name drop in each of the full English songs: Dynamite>Le Bron, Butter>Usher and PTD>Elton John. Elton loves the song and even did the TikTok challenge. Their last full English is ‘Permission to Dance’. It is purposefully a feel good, get up, pandemic is over song. They all have so much fun with it, with ARMYs, because so many of us can sing, AND SIGN, with them. I’m a 61 yo grama who was introduced to BYS by my granddaughter in 2018 with Idol. You know that you have a lot of support to help you navigate.. this track, apart from the main point of cheering Army up during the pandemic was to basically show that a group from Korea, speaking Korean can actually step out of their box to introduce themselves to English speaking nations who maybe weren't gelling with the foreign language... Absolutely loving your journey discovering them. I discovered BTS in May 2021 watching an interview on a BBC England talk show with my best friend who had found them during lockdown. I now have 5 new ARMY friends who I talk to everyday and they support me so much. All because our love of BTS (and now other groups too... plus Kdramas). I have travelled from the UK by myself to see BTS in Vegas this time last year and I also travelled to see Hobi at Lollapooloza in Chicago. Honestly, their lyrics, message and them as people support me in the toughest of times and I love it when people discover this as well. I would love to see you watch some of their TV shows like RunBTS (maybe find a compilation for the moment) or even some chaotic interviews to learn more about them as people (Jimmy Fallon or WIRED interview are good places to start). Thank you. I hope you keep finding tracks that you resonate with. Film out is one of my all time favourites and has absolutely stunning vocals (especially from Jimin ... my bias).

You are right. This was a rally call to ARMY during the pandemic to cheer us all up. It was the definition of "Pop", no deep meaning, just saying to us, cheer up and have some fun 🎉 it is not so cohesive lyrically and won't surprise you to know that they didn't write it. It was written and produced by Dave Stewart from UK. But it is very well performed and BTS did a great job with the video. I prefer the official B side MV though because it shows more of the bloopers from them making the video. Live performances are, of course, incredible and each one is a little different. The MMA 2020 version has a special dance break (won't say more, don't want to spoil the surprise), well worth a look. You can watch each performance and be surprised each time 💜

I wouldn’t say “conquer the west”. They never even tried to do this or thought about doing this. The song were made for certain mood. While yes they made Butter for towards a Grammy but they saw how Dynamite did and decided why not try and take a chance. Also PTD was a gift from Ed Sheeran so it wasn’t like they planned the song until it was given to them. Did it make them more noticeable in the west? Yes. Did they try and “conquer”

Enjoying your reactions, thank you! My personal (and possibly unpopular opinion) is that, while the official music videos are great, the audio is sometimes a bit... overproduced? To me, it's so much more satisfying to hear their stripped down live vocals--these boys definitely don't need autotune.
The NPR Tiny Desk concert is one of my favorites because it's just them jamming with a live backing band (Dynamite is one of three songs they do there). The 2021 Festa "BTS Live Room" that others have mentioned is also a good one... it's a live medley of some lesser-heard B-sides--one song from each album.
I also saw someone else mention their cover of Coldplay's "Fix You" that they did on MTV Unplugged, which is BEAUTIFUL and does a lovely job showcasing their raw vocals--it'll really help you begin to tell them apart because the differences are so stark there. The "Butter" performance at the Grammys is also iconic. And then of course, there are all the MAMA and MMA (korean award show) performances that they have done over the years... just to name a few!
Not saying you need to change your reaction style at all... but something I've seen some other reactors do that I REALLY enjoyed is to watch a music video (or a lyric video if no MV is available), and then follow it directly (in the same reaction) with a live performance of the same song. Basically a two-fer so that you can compare/contrast the studio version and live vocals. If it's a song with dance choreography, then watching the dance practice videos the release is also a lot of fun!

@@nickforell1 Vmin! A great duo for two reasons! First of all, as the singers with the lowest and highest voices, they sound incredible together, especially when they harmonize.
Second, V and Jimin are kind of a special pair within BTS. They are same-age friends (meaning they were both born in the same year), which if you aren't aware, is a really big deal in Korea. They have such a rigid age-based hierarchy built into their culture, it's even baked into the Korean language. Like, the way you might speak to people older or younger than you is very different. So when you meet someone new, it's common to ask their age so that you can make sure to address each other properly. In BTS, you will see the members observe this hierarchy as the younger ones call their elders "hyung," which is a word males can use to address an older brother. It's respectful, but also affectionate.
Anyway, V and Jimin were both born in 95. The only member younger than them is Jungkook, born in 97--so he is BTS's true "maknae" (youngest). However, you'll commonly see Jungkook, V, and Jimin referred to collectively as maknaes, or as the "maknae line," as they are very much the three little brothers of the group. They were the only members young enough that they were still in school when BTS got together. V and Jimin, being the same age, were in the same grade, and went to school together after moving to Seoul to train with Big Hit. So the two of them have that shared experience/forced proximity that none of the other members had together.
As a result, V and Jimin became best friends. They've got a ton of inside jokes, and stories, and they talk so fondly about one another. They've had some epic fights too, which is sort of inevitable when you're basically spending 24 hours a day with someone, but they always made up and ended up closer than ever. They refer to one another as their soulmate. It's just so disgustingly sweet. 😭
Anyway, you said you were interested in knowing more about the members personally, so just thought I'd throw in that little tidbit.

It wasn't available to me when I started, but I think it would have helped me learn to identify them. Find "Fix You". The MTV performance. They do a cover of a Coldplay song. As much as I love dynamite, but I think you would enjoy meaningful songs such as 'spring day MV' which is a really deep and sad song that you need to watch an explaination video by an Italian Army because they had hidden many clues that might had them blacklisted by the government if they weren't careful.
'Fake love' and 'blood sweat and tears' are also very good. Tip: they might seem like love song superficially but they're not
Lol the angelic voice you pointed out at 9:03 I'm not sure if you recognized him he was the one you reacted to 'set me free' solo. The video before this. Most of them have duality when it comes to their solo, that's why I encouraged you to explore BTS first before their solo, because currently all of them had proved that they can be successful as solo artists that's how good each one of them is. Which is a news to those who think they can't stand by themselves and think that they needed to be in the band to be successful. Each one of them has different genre and styles.
Very big tip: it's not the most popular songs that made the fans stay but the underrated and deep ones.

Hi 64 year old ARMY here.....this is a song that is simply for fun that we need to cheer us up during the pandemic. Even bad singers and dancers can attempt the moves and easy lyrics to this. 'Butter' and 'Permission to Dance' are two more all English songs that they made for the same reason. Oh and the angelic voice belongs to Jimin. Be warned there's a saying 'once you Jim-in, you can never Jim-out'. Its a fact that even straight guys fall for him. He's a siren that lures you in with his voice, shy smile and pretty eyes. 😉 I look forward to watching with you as you learn who is who. I found it hard at first especially as they kept changing their hair colour and styles almost every day. In the end I went by body shapes and gave them a character each and it worked. RM is the dad, Jin is the older and fun uncle, Suga is the older serious brother, J-Hope is the clown of the family, Jimin is an angel, V is a magical fairy and Jungkook is the naughty baby brother. It took me only a few days to sort them after that. Now I can recognise them pretty well. I did a quiz the other day and knew the one was just a picture of feet but I knew they were Jimins straight away...I surprised myself that day.

If you want to see a bit more of MJ, Jimin & Jungkook did a quick dance to MJ's "Black or White" at one of their Festa's several years ago. IIRC, DYNAMITE was submitted to BTS by 2 British writers and to me, most of the lyrics are pretty poor and make less sense than most of the translated ones.
I think they liked the upbeat mood, and were looking for content, when all their meticulously laid out and OTT practiced plans for a world tour were all cancelled. (My daughter had struggled for very good tickets to the Toronto concert and travel plans for there and on to Iceland. 😫 )
The MV, however, was fun and uplifting, during the Chinese plague lockdowns, which was it's purpose after the more melancholy LIFE GOES ON (that more typically was a BTS member production).
These were followed by BUTTER, with it's HOTTER and COOLER variations, and PERMISSIN TO DANCE, which is fun, also.

i hate that when they go to award shows and whatever and have interviews, no interviewers actually know anything about them and they mostly only like them for their english songs and don't even know that they sing korean. I hate that most people want them to sing in english, korean is their language and i love them singing in korean. I want them to continue. I don't want them to have to sing in english only because interviewers want them too and can't be asked to do their research or anything and only want to interview them because they're famous. I strongly dislike those types of interviewers. Honestly it's probably the fact that they're american because out of all the interviewers ive seen, the british ones seem to be the most polite and have the most knowledge on the group.

Just so you know it took us all awhile to get to know who is who. For several reason...they change their hairstyles, they change their haircuts, they change their hair color, and they sometimes change their eye color with contacts. So just look at their faces. It took me weeks. There are videos out there that are just the song. It has 7 pictures on the page. And when the guy is singing their face lights up. However, for each song like that...they use different photos each time. So, we understand. There is no rush. Pretty soon you will be able to identify them by just their voice. You will finally know who is who if you continue on this journey. And I think you will. This is funny....I was like..why doesn't he have the subtitles on? Duh! It's in English.

Haha yes, it was jarring not to have subtitles on. That's good to hear, I am definitely recognizing their faces, just working on the names
