Remember this bike is from 2008 XD (over 11 years ago), and it wasn't top of the line for 2008 either lol. Its still running solid today. I take it on some gnarly jumps weekly :)
I understand... but you could've upgraded it. It's really worth it, cheap and you don't have to maintain it so often anymore. My Bike is from 2011 and besides from a tapered headtube or boost spacing, it has all the "modern" features. It is just a difference like day and night. My bike did cost only 500 bucks back in the day and now it almost drives and handles like a modern bike and is 6 pounds lighter. I just love to upgrade older bikes and see how far I could go. But anyway, as long as you're having fun, that's the main thing and the only one that matters.
I used a ruler and cross referenced dimensions from official trek logos. For the other decals i just eyeballed it with a ruler and a pencil sketch. I did take a side view pic of the frame and used that to get an idea of how it would look too.
It was outside of my budget at the time. Now im just enjoying the bike with the old brakes till the pads run out then ill upgrade because i cant get new pads for it.
wow vary motivational i really want a new dirt jumper but they are so expensive i have a norco but it has a bunch of gears so now im going to buy parts all i need are bars, grips and I need to do a single speed conversion but im not sure what gearing i should do im not very good at the gearing part of building bikes i know how to build a bike i have built a custom dirt jumper for my friend but he picked out all the parts so all i had to do was put it together so if any one can tell me what gearing i need that will be helpful i just need to know how many teeth i need in the back sprocket and how many teeth in the front.
Do a little research. This bike was designed as a freeride bike. So it has the geometry and strength of a DJ, it may not have been designed as a pure DJ, but it is far from a flimsy xc frame. Cheers!
I know this video is really old but do you know what kind of headset the frame needs? is is a standard 1 1/8 to 34mm? Thanks i'm currently building one of these and have everything but the headset.
Do you mean like the headset caps? The grease is mainly acting as an anti sieze so that the steel and the aluminium dont corrode themselves together in a type of natural weld.
I thought so, but then I was wondering why you don't use actual anti-sieze. But I guess most of you guys don't just have that lying around I guess. Cheers.
@@NipponNostalgicTV yeah man. Its more of a "if it works why change" kinda deal. Ive never used anti sieze in my life even though i work on projects permanently. Never needed to use anything other than good ol grease i guess lol.
I think it is a marzocchi dirt jam comp 100mm as i have the same on my bike, theyre pretty legit forks for the cost, and they can be easily upgraded to 120mm
@@safetyboots2642 you remove the lowers and the top caps, after you pull out the springs and pistons you're supposed to remove the plastic part and cut it down so its just the wide part and return everything in order. sorry for the late reply, I haven't been checking my emails.
These older bikes will go forever
Nice build..... must have been satisfying as hell at the end ! Thanx for sharing.

you don't fucking need hydraulic brake i have tektro aires on my mtb and i can stoppie
I almost got the original bontrager parts on this frame except the Brakes are hydraullics, but tbh this bike is much better than these 1000$ bikes xD
@@Marc28031984 what bike?
Thanks For the Motivation Mate I Bought One Yesterday Now I am Going To Make It Look Hot🔥
Epic man. Its a solid bike. Love mine to bits
How did you scale the decals, very curious for my project.
Cheers

What a great video bro, that inspired me to restore a little bit my bike jeje! Good edit in the end!
Bruh it looks sick!!!!
Good Job brotha!
Hi what is the headset size? I got a jack 1 frame planning to restore it thank you. Nice video
why not a hydraulic brake?

Unreal Snitch 25 in the front 10
Best gear ratio
Hello,I have a cassette with 7 speeds I can change with 1 speed ?...pls answer me...
You can change any cassette with no matter how many gears to single speed with a single speed conversion kit which cost about $20

Where did you got the titanium bolts?
Class vid deserved 1mil views lotta work
Thanks man. Im sure in 100 years time it will have more views XD
I kinda dig that beat 😂
What size MTB frame? I’m looking to do a similar thing myself. Also did you use a chain tensioner for the singlespeed setup?
Sick xc frame
Not a dirt jumper but it does look pretty sweet
I will all same things ! I have a 250$ MTB and i'll transform my bike on a dirtjump bike :) sorry for my english

I honestly wouldn't know hey. Its a straight headtube of course. As for the specifics im not sure. Hope you come right!
Thanks for the reply! I think I got it figured out
What size bottoms bracket crank did you use?
Tbh i have no idea. I just used the stock cranks which are bontrager branded.
I keep seeing this come up and I have to ask why are you all putting grease on non moving parts?
