    This is a really good breakdown, Kicks. Really important to stress the impact of not skipping out on the books in your file.
    Also, the number 5 would disagree with your comment that 25 is a Prime Number.

    • @comicsaredope
      @comicsaredope  Год назад +1

      Lol 25 is absolutely not a prime number. I wanted to say Even, then Round, then settled on Prime in my head before thinking “that’s not right either. Oh well. Moving on” lol

      @D00M3R_MAVS Год назад

      @@comicsaredope you guys talking about actual prime numbers, or is this some collector lingo? TBH I just buy books with covers I like (I mainly just collect variant covers) it;s nice to have a lot of 1st's, but I'll totally buy an issue deep into a story/set I have nothing else for, just because I like the variant cover art.
      Granted, I never really got into hardcore collecting. I don't really know the etiquette. I was really into comics as a young kid, but only for the Art, I rarely ever even read the stories. I got into reading more when I was older, but I'd mainly buy omnibus stories (these are called "trades" right, when they have the full story in one book?) for reading. I don't read the variants buy., I don't even touch them with a bare hand. they go straight into a bag and then I only look at the cover.
      If I want the story I'll read it digitally these days (although I do miss getting the fat books, I used to love ,my spider man volumes, had tons of them when I wad young (Lol, I actually liked the clone epic saga as well. It reminded me of a convoluted video game story. Love a good twist, LoL) but I sold them off at some point when I got back into Warhammer.
      I think now I will just invest in a Tablet and read digitally though. Comic collecting will strictly be to collect them for the cover art.
      PS:
      Also I noticed some really sick, base art on covers these days. I guess they do this so people buy the standard cover as well? I guess I'm probably part of a niche within comic collecting, but I'm sure variant cover collecting is going to be pretty standard by now?

    You should also mention the other option of buying comics. I buy my comics online from a large retailer. I do occasionally go into a LCS and buy issues that I may have missed or want later but my local LCS gives NO discounts on a pull list...none, so I went online, 35% off pre-orders, they come shipped and packaged very well and you can have them shipped as often as you want and all are bagged/boarded. The site has a dedicated pre-order web site that you can read the solicitation and even see most covers. I unfortunately don't have a great selection of LCS's in my area. Great info!

      @the4deadlyvenoms could you share what retailer you use? I don’t have many LCS options either and the one I’m currently using hasn’t been very transparent on what they’re charging.

    Really good video with great information. I am really close with my LCS owner and I hate to see people take advantage and him for granted. Communication will go a long way. Are you doing a series called Comic Book 101? Plus I hate it when people buy multiple copies off the shelf, and like you said if you know you're going to buy multiple copies then order then in advance.

    I go on FP and order absolutely everything new (the pre orders for what's coming up) You don't pay for anything until it's in stock, and you only pay shipping on the first thing they send out.
    I currently have an order for nearly 2k, and only paying 5 pounds (UK) shipping. I'll get this stuff over the next 4 months or something as it comes in stock.
    They aren't the quickest at shipping stuff though. I ordered around 200 pounds worth of Variants at the start of the week (I just got back into it) and they have only processed half my order, despite it all being in stock. They're really slow, but not having to pay on pre order is amazing. I mean if you are ordering low volume then you probably want to pay up front, but I'm making sure I get everything I want, and only have to pay for it as it comes in stock.
    Also dude, what's with variant covers that end up being worth a lot. Do they initially sell them for the standard price, then when something becomes "hot!" they bump the price, or do they sell these Virgin covers and stuff for the mark up to start with? I know signed comics go for a lot out of the gate, but that's signed stuff.
    Also Marvel can thanks 2nd Diner for bringing in lots of new collectors, and reigniting the hobby for guys like me. "Marvel Snap" got a lot more people buying comics.

    Great Video! Does the pre-order list say which comics are keys?

    • @comicsaredope
      @comicsaredope  6 месяцев назад +1

      Not necessarily. Often, the solicit text will hint at deaths or debuts of major characters. So you can make educated guesses, but it’s not always certain.

      the best way I've seen to find FOC is to visit the websites of each distributor. For DC, that's Lunar Distribution. FOC is every Sunday, so I'd probably check every monday for the upcoming week.
