Yes, the Valley Vet clinic has asked and emailed many times about the dire need for a turn lane or flashing lights. ODOT is obviously not concerned with two people and their dog getting killed on Friday morning because of their lack of caring. There needs to be some changes in the ODOT hierarchy and some new management for starters. 😢

@@codymoe4986 Or a bit of both. ODOT is supposed to at least assess the potential hazard and all indications atm is they didn't. But ya, ppl see a straight stretch of "highway" and decide to gun it, usually while doing something else that takes their attention from the road.

This is a horrible and needless tragedy. The woman from the veterinary clinic added a human connection of genuine feeling, frequently lost by just the facts type reporting. The value of human life takes a back seat over other priorities when people get in their cars these days.

Very well stated. I was hit head-on while stopped at a red! She didn't give a crap about me. The passenger made sure I was okay and said this wasn't her first.
People are just getting so inpatient and feeling entitled of their anger. People are distracted, and people lately have a mindset of pure stupidity. Put them in the drivers seat, and you got a nightmare on wheels.
And the consequences for these people are not tough enough.

Please be careful. Don't let aggressive drivers push you into driving a way you're not comfortable or feel unsafe. Drive with your headlights on, and double, or triple tap your brake lights to wake the driver behind you when you need to slow or stop. Sun angles and bad weather only make things that much worse.

Lived in the area for decades. Hwy 30 has been "death alley" for as long as I can remember. When my kids were inexperienced drivers I forbade them to travel on 30. Lots of drivers going wayyyyy too fast. Head-on collisions are common due to people taking excessive risks while passing slower cars. And left-turn crashes as mentioned in this story. And, often, rain and fog adding to the problems

  • @nancyhamer949
    @nancyhamer949 2 месяца назад +4

All of Hwy 30 is dangerous! People swerve in and out of lanes without signaling every day. There is a lot of road rage with impatient drivers gesturing, yelling while leaning out of windows at other cars. It is especially bad in the Linnton area past the SJ Bridge, where the speed limit is 35 mph for a stretch and then 40 mph, but no one obeys it. If we want to turn into a business and are signalling prior to turning, drivers honk and speed past anyway. We need way more enforcement, better lane change options, more traffic lights.

My plan to prevent accidents is
    1. add traffic lights
    2. add a Divided Highway
    3. add more restrictions on street racing
    4. reduce the amount of people
Who drive cars on the road so that other cars are not crowding the other cars
    5. Make some Encouragements for people to use public transit by expanding Columbia County Ridership.

Add more restrictions on street racing? You state that though street racing is permitted under certain conditions, you need to rethink that one. The existing laws are adequate if people would only adhere to them, and enforce the laws with stiffer fines for those who don't. Reduce the number of people, make sure you are ready to be the first to sign up for that plan.

I understand your analogy, but unlike guns, it falls short in reality. Some roads and highways are poorly designed and definitely contribute to accidents. Yes, it is true that competent driving with situational awareness can overcome many of these shortcomings, but not always. As drivers ourselves we are dependent on other drivers to think clearly and that they have good driving skills By simply paying attention to what you are doing goes a long way. Take care and be safe out there.

I live in Hood River. The weekends are an onslaught of aggressive and entitled drivers making their weekly exodus out the Gorge. The speed limit is posted at 20 mph through town and 25 in outlying areas central to town. People running stop signs, driving 40-50 mph, texting, parking in private lots, without a sign of cops running radar EVER. The Hood River police dept. win awards for their drunk driving patrols at night. If they would only do something about the risk of aggressive drivers and speeding drivers in the Heights and all roads that lead into downtown during the day/nights. Not speeding takes a commitment. Situational awareness. . Use some self restraint and some respect for the posted speed limit , other people, pets, road workers, bicyclists, etc. on the roads and sidewalks around you. It is up to you to drive responsibly. Don't speed!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is a highway, with highway speeds of 55 mph. Don't make a left turn without a turn lane on a busy highway. Go to a safe spot and turn around, enter the business with a right turn! The business needs to put up a sign "No Left Turn." Or move their business. It's dangerous enough in a 35 mph zone to try and turn left without a turn lane and just expect others behind you to stop or go around you if the road is wide enough, but at 55 mph it's insane and asking to get rear ended hard!
