How has everyone's May been?💐 This month I was finishing up high school, so I was busy with finals, AP tests and senior events. I'll be graduating this week!🎓 What's been happening with you?😊
Aah thank you so much Makayla for choosing my monologue! Your feedback was so helpful--I definitely agree that my "moment before" was missing, it would have pulled in the audience/casting director much faster (which is super important for self-tapes). I really appreciate this, I always looks forward to your videos!
"this isn't about you this is about what i did" I loved that part personally. it pulled my attention and had realistic emotion in it:) also the prediction of walking away didn't work so I think that made the performance less predictable!
It has been my dream to become an actor since I was 5. Nobody ever believed in me and they said it not a "real" job. you encouraged me to keep trying my best, and thanks to you I got my first audition! Thank you so much.
I've been really shy to act or do something on stage due to the fear of messing up, but ever since I've been watching your videos I think I might actually give it a try
@@ENFPSIS a tip is maybe if its not on stage but like a thing you gotta audition for, maybe send a video ? it'll be just you In your room but still get the audition done
Hello Miss Makayla. I successfully passed my preliminary audition on Zoom and I'm really motivated. I'm 44 but I feel like I have no limits and I want to further enhance my life not just get by. Well done pretty lady. Great video on acting and presence.
My thoughts on Hannah's submission: She did an amazing job especially with body language but I feel like she was lacking facial expressions. Apart from this she did amazingly 👏🏼.
Tip #3 is pure genius, and it's something to keep in mind that is so often ignored in filmmaking. I love "The Social Network," but I've always had a problem with the opening scene but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Watching your breakdown, I realized the problem. The two characters are just spitting out lines with no internal monologue, no time to breath or digest what the other has just said and contemplate their reaction. That's why the scene comes off as so inauthentic.
I had my first self tape because of youuu!! You have taught me that although I might be starting a bit late in the industry I can still become the actor I’ve always wanted to be! 🥰🥰🥰✨✨
And reactions are the most important part!! Anyone can act when they are talking, that’s easy, but if you act when you don’t talk, then you know you’re getting good!
hannah's submission was amazing, I love the fact that she chose a fiona scene, but i would have liked to see a little more anger, sadness and emotion but she still did it very well!!
I think a great way to explain internal monologue with dramatic scenes is that certain things should make you react from the inside more that others. You shouldn’t have the same level of emotion talking ab how ur dog died than what u said leading up to it. Everything is like a ocean the wave needs to go up before it can go down
I got into drama school almost a year ago, we have been doing screen acting for a couple weeks ( probably about 12) and this was something we learned and I agree with this, it totally works. Always improving the art
Okay, this is my very first time hearing a person's monologue because I have somewhat a great desire for acting. I just hope through this I will learn acting through this great acting. Thank you so much for taking your time.
You are the best. I have had a dream of being an actor for years now. I thought I was amazing and couldn’t get better. You proved me wrong. You have made me even better and your amazing for that. I didn’t think I would get a job as a ten year old and you gave me hope again. Keep helping people. Thank you is the least I can say.
Does anyone else not want to be an actor but just loves watching Makayla’s videos anyway 😆 p.s. I actually randomly consider dropping out of college and becoming an actor because my classes are so hard even though I’d be terrible at acting 🙃
I'm actually in Casting Call, had my first three Zoom Meetings some days back, and I got in! I won't be having my next one until the Fourth of February, kinda excited.
I really loved Hannah's monologue self tape if I am honest I enjoyed it and she executed it very well and it shows emotions of the person in that situation loved it
Thank you makayla you’ve been a big help for me I’m part of acting agency I did my first self tape thanks to you hopefully one day we work together on something and again thank you so much
The internal monologue bit was really great advice! I’ve been really getting interested in becoming an actress but wasn’t sure what I can do to be more realistic. Usually when I try my mind goes blank while I’m saying the lines so it makes it harder to have more feel and emotion in what I’m saying and I’ll just sound flat. But the internal monologue can help it feel more realistic.
I feel an important thing to incorporate into someone's acting is the emotion. Showing emotion that connects with your words, and connects with the moment really pulls in the viewers and their empathy will connect them to the emotions as well. Idk what I'm talking about xD just a thought. The only acting I've done was a small musical at my church with my gramma
Another great video and I agree with the main comment about the moment before! Would you please make a video on choices? We as actors often hear CD’s talk about making strong choices. How do you approach that and do you sometimes submit a take opposite of the directions just to add something different. 😃
I was thinking the same, her acting was absolutely great, I just felt like It needed more emotion, I wasn't very convinced, idk maybe bc I know what scene she's acting out and I was probably expecting a bit more anger and emotion, but again, she did a great job still!!
Another great tip for learning to act-you should work customer service, and also watch cops, or other wacky reality shows(esp if you want to learn regional accents)- birthing videos to learn how to emote extreme pain if you’ve never experienced that, interview people with lives you don’t understand, and talk to many types of people and live around them. you will learn what emotion looks like from all sides and you will get to know her as a person. And get to know yourself as realistically as possible. Know your flaws, your strengths, your weaknesses, what you can and cannot do-know your boundaries. Accept all of yourself as a person and learn to use it for acting. You will see life differently if you are unashamed of your flaws -I have used the issues I struggled with to make character motivations deeper-I relived that moment and fixed what could have been, or perhaps the scene doesn’t go happily and some raw emotion is really brought up there. It’s incredibly cathartic, and doing that can actually help you overcome many obstacles. And don’t worry too much about looking pretty while you act-it will just make you look uncomfortable. Acting is emotion and storytelling-and emotions should be allowed to get messy, when the occasion calls for it.
Hi Makayla! I love your videos and how educating they are, but I have a question if you could do a video about it: How do you make good choices in your performance? Or like, how do you keep yourself from overthinking?
Makayla thank you so much for making these videos I’ve done my research from you about the acting business.
