Hi, Excellent tutorial for setting up the Nikon Z9 for video. I’m sure I’ll have to watch this a few more times. I shoot my Z9 and all my cameras “back button” focus when shooting regular photos. How will that affect auto focusing in the video mode? On the i menu, which auto focus setting should I choose? Let’s say I’m using (mostly) the 24-120 Z lens, hand held which IS mode do I set? I apologize for so many questions. You are very explicit in the way you explain the settings. Not being a normal video shooter (but wanting to shoot some video), I’m trying to get as much understanding of these settings as possible. Thank you and Nikon 13:26 Europe for this wonderful RUclips tutorial. 🎥 🤙 😀
Good video. Looks like Nikon is doing well on the video side. No one really goes over the many capabilities. It still has some ways to go but it is amazing how far their video has come in such a short time.
Thank you very much for this. It should really be made clear that this is only for SDR 10 BIT video. Most of these functions will not work on HLG or NLOG recordings.
thanks for the video. btw as far as I know focus peaking only works in Manual focus mode and not as you explained "while being in AF and as soosn as I touch manual focus ring...." Correct?
Focus peaking is explained on the Nikon Z 9 online help manual and on the PDF manual. It states clearly, "When focus peaking is enabled in Manual focus mode, objects in focus are indicated by coloured outlines in the display". Therefore, we can only advise that Focus peaking is operable in Manual focus mode.
Will there be a firmware update adding desqueeze options for using anamorphic lenses on the z9? Also they forgot to mention in this video if you're shooting in NRAW you do NOT get the option to go into DX mode. Nor can you choose to shoot in the 1:1 square format which would be incredibly useful for anamorphic shooting. Not being able to use the Z9s main features in NRAW honestly makes me question whether I will use this for professional work. I had gotten this camera with the dream of shooting with my lomo anamorphics on such a small body, but needless limitations prevent the user from using anamorphic correctly.
One other feature they need to add or shall I say fix, is that every time one presses record to stop recording, the HDMI loses sync for about 5 seconds and blacks out. If you are using a wireless transmitter, then it take about 10 seconds for it to re acquire signal....after every take. This is so frustrating and no other camera does this. Makes one lose a lot of time on set waiting for the monitor picture to come back up.
What are you using as a video capture card in order to capture the video from the display of your Z9? Most of the cards I have found are not compatible with the Z9.
Need some help please. I can’t seem to turn ON vibration reduction or Electronic VR on my Z9. They are not highlighted. Which settings do I need to change to get these options highlighted
Question: I bought External Monitor (Feelworld Lut6) and I connected to the Z9 it worked well on Photography but when I switch to video mode the external monitor lose the signal. Is there any setting that I can make on the Z9 to keep the signal during videography mode?
Hi there, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. Sadly we are unable to make any further comments on this matter because this is a third-party device you are using with the Nikon Z 9 and we do not test or develop these third-party devices. We would recommend you contact the manufacturer of this external monitor so that they can look into this issue for you.
I am 5'2", I have begun shooting video with my Z9 having been a portrait photographer. I need stabilization, a reasonably priced (not cheap) tripod light weight, the correct gimbal head for it or other option. Do you have time to recommend a good set up for me? Thanks so much!
Hi Edie, unfortunately, we do not manufacture any tripods, so we can only advise you on checking with third-party companies which manufacture them. We do not test with them and as such, we are unable to advise on specific brands or models. You could perhaps check online reviews of the products you are looking to use with your camera and contact the manufacturer of said products to see if they are compatible with your camera.
Thanks for the video, however, I am baffled! At 2:44 in your video you are setting up the "I-menu" with the Frame size/frame rate on your second from the left, top line. On my Z9 which has the most up to date firmware - 2.11, I cannot find that option under the list of items I can assign to a slot on the I-menu!! I have checked over and over again but it is not coming up. I have made sure the ring on the DISP button is set to video, not stills. Why can I not find that option?
It seems like this is firmware 1.x.x since the camera doesn't have N-raw format. Weird that they upload this video with old firmware all this time later. 2.0 has been out for months
Hi Brian, I am sorry for the time it took for us to reply. The frame size/rate should be the third option from the left on the i menu top line as default. If your camera does not show this option, please make sure you are running the latest firmware version and reach out to the support team.
Merci d’avance. Un coucou d’Alsace.
Hi Muriel, we'd recommend taking a look at our series of French tutorials about the Nikon Z 8. They should answer your question: ruclips.net/video/YOATaJ1yyHg/видео.html
How is everyone getting the live video view histogram? Has anyone figured it out? I just got the Z8's after coming from the D500s and have been unable to figure out how to get the histogram to show in the video mode. If anyone could please help here, I would greatly appreciate it!
Why is it not possible to record video on 2 cards at the same time in the camera that is so professional according to what you claim? It sounds a bit strange while this is a camera with 2 memory cards at the highest level available today
Hello Tim, you would need to select "ON (shutter speed fine-tuning" for the “High-Frequency Flicker Reduction” option in the video recording menu. This will allow you to control the shutter speed in smaller increments. For more information, please see the following link - onlinemanual.nikonimglib.com/z9/en/18_added_functions_300_05.html
The commentator speaks much too fast and goes into sub menu settings without saying how to get there - as with Active D for example. Instead of a 14 minute video that is very difficult to follow a 20 minute version with a native English speaker who takes the time to cover navigation would be far more useful.
Excellent presentation, clear and to the point. So glad marketing did not get involved with rhythmic music! Good job Ludovic!
Thank you so much , great explaination on your settings.
Great job! Thanks for the tutorial!
what is the crop factor if I use electronic stabilization? 2. Best settings for zebra.Great video. Thanks
I was getting shaky 4k video with my Z6. Your video helped me fix that, thanks.

Hello, We need a tutorial on how to setup the Nikon Zs with the DJI Ronin RS series. Thanks !
Thank you for the video. Is there any possibility to see the meteringmeasurement (+ or - EV) while you are filming video?

Thanks for the video! Question, I'm setting the camera to 4K but when I upload the footage, the dimensions are reading 1920x1080. Any idea why?
1920x1080 timeline?

So what is the best AF setting for Gun 'n' Run type photography ? Is it AF-F ? Thank you
Please tell about metering when capture video
I would like to connect my iPhone to the Z9 using the USB-C port. Then I would like to use my phone as a monitor and remote control. How do I do that?
Why am I seeing different in my i?
What firmware did you had?

Buy another brand then.
@@w.w.7148 rude and unacceptable from Nikon
@@w.w.7148 This is not an answer to the customer.
The sliding of the camera, with which the video is shot, is quite distracting.
WOW , the guy who did the sharpening on this video should be fired. LOL
Where is the 1/48 shutter speed? The camera will only let me set 1/50 for video!!!! This is not acceptable.

Does having lenses propped up all over the place give this video credibility? Just looks staged and silly.
