When audiences walked out of the theater in 1999 after seeing The Matrix, they actually started questioning reality. It made us think. It forced us to question our preconceived ideas of the world. Bravo Hollywood. They are capable of making great films. They just forgot how.

I honestly think Keanu is such a genuine guy that he came back to help out the casting as if you dig into it.. WB wanted a ANOTHER sequel for YEARS. They eventually got ONE of the Wachowski bros/sisters… to finally give in.. and ironically it seems it was INTENTIONALLY messed up on purpose. In the sense that WB said they were making another instalment with or without the original directors and cast, including the fight choreographer (which STILL didn't return - evidently) … so it was like “ ok, if you stfu I’ll make this one more movie, but audiences will hate it and we are going to make it align heavily with our values(woke)” … and that’s exactly what we got. I truly believe this is what happened.

So about the action in "The Matrix Resurrections." The reason why the action was so bad in it compared to the first 3 The Matrix movies is because the first 3 Matrix movies had one man involved that was not involved in "The Matrix Resurrections": Yuen Wo Ping.
Yuen Wo Ping, a renowned action filmmaker from Hong Kong, played the central role in shaping the action sequences of the original trilogy. Contrary to some misconceptions spread by certain RUclips commentators, it was Yuen Wo Ping, not the directors and choreographers of the John Wick series, who orchestrated the action in the original Matrix trilogy. Yuen Wo Ping, known as one of the greatest action filmmakers in film history, was the mastermind behind those iconic action scenes. For whatever reason, he was not brought back for "The Matrix Resurrections" and that is why the action scenes suffered so much.
Yuen Wo Ping's influence extends far beyond The Matrix series. In the late 70s, he made his directorial debut with two martial arts films starring Jackie Chan - "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow" and "Drunken Master" - which were instrumental in launching Chan's movie career into stardom. Additionally, Yuen Wo Ping discovered Donnie Yen in the 80s and mentored him in action filmmaking. Donnie Yen, famous for his role as Ip Man in the Ip Man movies and known by general audiences in the West as Chirrut in Rogue One and Caine in John Wick 4, learned all of his action filmmaking craft under Yuen Wo Ping's guidance.
And that's not all. He also served as the action director and choreographer for Jet Li's "Once Upon A Time In China" movies, which propelled Jet Li to stardom in Asia. Furthermore, he worked on "Fist of Legend," a remake of Bruce Lee's "Fist of Fury," which not only is one of Jet Li's best movies but also caught the attention of the Wachowski siblings when they were seeking an action director for "The Matrix." It is "Fist of Legend" that convinced them to get Yuen Wo Ping. In fact, there's a little easter egg in "The Matrix Resurrections" around the 24-minute mark. In the middle of that montage of Keanu Reeves speaking with the other video game developers, Reeves is seen doing some martial arts in his apartment before falling down. Well, while he's doing that there is a movie playing on his TV in the background. That movie is "Fist of Legend"! It's an obvious tribute to Yuen, considering his work on the first 3 Matrix films. Though it is a bit ironic that they snuck his movie in there, but didn't bring him back to work on this new installment.
As you can see, Yuen Wo Ping's influence on action cinema runs deep, but it's a shame that his name isn't on everyone's lips more often. The people responsible for John Wick learned what they know working under Yuen Woo Ping's guidance while doing on "The Matrix" trilogy, carrying that expertise forward to create their own movies like John Wick.
People should know who he is because Yuen Wo Ping is not only the reason why the action in the first 3 Matrix movies were of high quality, but also the quality of his work throughout the decades launched the careers of action greats like Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Donnie Yen and also greatly influenced and inspired countless action filmmakers from the East to the West. It is essential to recognize and appreciate his contributions to the industry, as countless action directors and stars, from East to West, owe him a big "thank you" for his work and inspiration.
The man's name is Yuen Wo Ping. So please, know his name. He deserves the gratitude and respect.

The Matrix was always about the schizophrenic post-modern condition. You have a boring, pointless daytime life and an exciting, meaningful nighttime life. The fantasy of the the Matrix is, holy shit, the exciting, meaningful fantasy life is actually the real life! Not only that, the boring, pointless daytime life can be taken over and controlled by the fantasy life! None of the sequels grasp why the first movie was so appealing. Especially to post-modern people, with our ennui and malaise and other French words.

It just lacked everything. It lacked action, storytelling, sound design, poor casting, made for a tv feel, zero bullet time, budget driven, poor twists, poor nods, poor script, poor meta analysis (that really made no sense)…
It was too worries about making statements about trans, sexuality and society using subliminal imagery and a story about mirror images. The director is clearly making metaphorical statements about his/her personal journey and experiences since becoming Trans.
This film should of been a film noir detective investigation story ( similar to the Animatrix short), a prequel about an investigation into weird occurrences that start to push a detective into rabbit hole investigation that leads him towards becoming the first AI to discover the matrix but is being hunted by the 1st incarnation of the agents whilst being helped by a mysterious woman.
No Neo, no trinity, no Morpheus… just a new story.

I hate when they ruin a good set of movies for a cash grab like what they did to the terminator franchise. I mean how bad this part of the franchise is and since they changed the main characters maybe bc they knew it was gonna be trash, the only other thing that would make it worse is if they would've put a different actor as Neo bc Keanu should've seen or prob knew it was gonna be garbage but i guess sometimes ppl will do anything for money.

There is a theory that the movie was INTENTIONALLY made bad so that the Wachowskis would retain the rights longer but at the same time kill the franchise so that they'd never be asked to make more Matrix movies. Sounds odd to me, but it makes more logical sense than the movie itself.

fun fact: a week before the movie was release a bunch of behind the scenes screens came out for publicity stunts on different youtube channels (made for the movie in some cases) where the wachoski director and actors will actually confess to the camera that the movie was bad on purpose - most noticeably the director confessing "she just wanted to tell a story where she could revive neo and trinity because their parents died and she could not revive them on real life" and "now the matrix is inclusive having 2 choosen ones, of both biological genders (and implied that neo and trinity are bi and pansexual checking many boxes) then jada pinkett smith adding that "the only logical option was to have her character (witch was a disposable add on on the sequels) to become the ruler of the new city I/O just because she is black, female and nobody tells her what to do" even the guy that did the merovingian with shame told "its a new spin, now my character is a joke of what a capitalist will be in the future world after inclusivity and socialism takes over in the real world" so all the capitalists in the world will become insane homeless people. just like in the soviet union with the aristocrats. lovely. those videos 2 days after, and most of the channels where deleted. i guess WB pick them up for some lawsuit to the director, since she destroyed the franchise because WB told her they will be making a sequel "with or without her" involved at all.

Unless you guys don't know, the 4th movie was made bad on purpose with 2 goals.
First goal - to make sure it flops and it will be impossible to be turned and milked into sequels. And it delivered quite well on that.
Second was an extensive social commentary on the world we live in where nothing is original anymore and everything is a remake of something else, good or bad. Not only movies and games, but now even ads as well. NPH actually lays it all out in a very subtle, but genius way by mentioning "The Suits". It was actually a very cool way of giving the middle finger to the entire industry. This is the biggest key as to why The Matrix 2.0 is so much lamer, why it doesn't have fancy CGI or complex fighting sequences, which defined the original. You can see that even in the way both The Architect and The Analyst speak - one talks almost with human passion about his desire to achieve equilibrium of a chaotic mathematical equation, solving the anomaly, while the other is there with one purpose only - to generate as high of a profit as possible. Just like in real world, film making and game developing are no longer driven by passion, but obsession over money and profit. They are being made not by directors, but by accountants. We see this everywhere - studios cutting corners, trying everything to reduce costs, not allowing the creators enough time to perfect their products, pushing the latest trendy agenda to ride the hype wave... all of that with the sole purpose of increasing profit. Back in the movie, It's even visible in the art-style of the new Matrix 2.0. While the original was cold toned and had very clinical, very sterile feel to it, the new one is using all kinds of filters with turned on VIVID mode. The color saturation is off the charts, which is again how movies are made now days - plenty of eye-candy, but absolutely nothing of value underneath that. No good story, no goo character development, just cheap effects and colors in a pointless attempt to distract the mind from that fact it's being occupied dealing with absolute garbage.
This movie is beyond meta. If you go back watching it with that in mind, that it's made bad on purpose, almost every single scene and i mean really like 99% of the scenes in this movie have something to comment on the modern state of the industry and start to make sense. Why Agent Smith was recast, why Morpheus acts completely out of character, why Neo doesn't have his powers, why Niobe acted in such cowardly manner, why we were only shown a glimpse of a great content which could've been with the machines fighting one another, replacing the agents with bots, lack of bullet-time, mirrors hacking, social media, human interaction, agendas. Absolutely every single scene is pointing out what's wrong with out modern day content creation and consumption.
That's why when i left the theatre after watching the movie i had my mind blown almost like the first time i watched the original, when it made me question my very existence.

It's truly the best way to recall the greatness of that film, as a seminal work of art and action, that ended with Neo flying up into the sky of the Matrix, heading into the heart of the machine control system to take them down. Make your own headcanon, it's better than what we got.

I lost track of the number of times I watched The Matrix. Did not like the second because it felt like they focused on looong fight choreography and less time on the story. The third was brutally complicated and the ending felt emotionally like the ending for Lost. I was really excited and hyped about the trailer for the 4th but wished I had skipped it. The concept could've worked but the story turned out to be a hot mess with a reboot of almost every beloved character. I'm sure someone will try to milk a 5th movie.
