I am actually quite fond if the Lewis Chessmen. The stash they were found in actually had enough pieces for 4 sets. There are warring hypotheses as to their origins, but my personal favorite has them being made in Iceland by a woman renowned for her ivory carving named Margaret the Adroit.
The ivory chess pieces are just absolutely beautiful
What about the Japanese Imperial family? I'm curious about the things they have.
With chess pieces that look like these, I would be too distracted to think seriously about my next move.

I think there is a chess set from Scotland that was found on a dig. It was carved out of wood. The passing of the checkmate King was ironic. Goes to show Chess can be stressful. Especially if you don't like to lose. 😆
