    Ty for the video, dealer was going to charge us $692. for diagnosis, parts and labor. Now it will only be $100 for diagnosis. Only wish the video would have come up when I did my google search "2004 Saturn Ion died in intersection" and the multitude of variations on that idea, lol. So now i'm ordering the part and we're doing it ourselves thanks to you and your informative and helpful video. I'll update you on how it goes.

    Thank you so much for this. I replaced my own fan that had cracked. Crack was on the plastic ring linking the fan blades. While spinning, that cracked ring would spread apart and it would grind inside the cowling. Anyhow, your guide was PERFECT and made the install easy. I lifted the front of the car making the job that much easier.

    Hey thanks for the video, saved me a bunch of time and frustration! Just did this in less than an hour last evening (even stopped to refill my beer!). I would point out that my fan was held onto the radiator with some clips that required yanking it upwards first, then away and pull down underneath the car.

    thank you so much for this video. ordering my fan in the next few weeks. I was extremely nervous about the job because of how congested it is up top. I would have never guessed to take it out from the bottom. great job on the video, the details, and basically everything. this is how a DIY video should be. saved me 700$.

    Hey thanks for the "How To Video", my Radiator fan came out just the way you describe. I unbolted the radiator at the bottom & the fan slipped right through the bottom. Also, I was able to slip the new one through the bottom without jacking up my car...Thank you

    Appreciate the video,bud.I hope it's of some help to me when I'm able to work on mine.My uncle in Mo actually built this car from scratch.Used all factory parts and specs.But,I know in some cases,he had to fudge a bit.This isn't even exactly my problem though,either.A few days ago,when I turned on the fan (for the ac/heater) the front end really started rumbling somewhat loudly.Today I opened the hood and it appears that the housing is loose and I think my uncle had put screw in the housing to stop that because they're are like at least 4 screws (One was in when I left work today.But,guess what...it's gone now :( ) In fact,the one that I saw actually looked like an allen type screw.The whole fan hosing and radiator is loose and quite scary when you turn on the fan to the passenger area.I'm actually scared the whole damned mess is gonna fall apart and cause a major problem :(

    for the body clips . There is a easy way to pop those . U pull the center pin up first with a flat surface tip of a screw driver or u can use ur finger anything as long as u get the center pin up then the clips come up easily because all the center pin does is make the outer part spread to lock it to unlock the clip just push center pin up. The clips are two pieces one in in center of these push pins there all over the car to keep things from falling off .

    Thanks for your RUclips Video, I replaced mine, it worked for a few days, now the temp up to 1/2, which a bit over normal - but the fan is not turn on, I replaced the sensor, still not on. When I turn on the A/C the fan is working... I know the Saturn 2003 now a day a bit to late to ask questions.

      If it's at running temp. You should be able to squeeze the radiator hose to the thermostat and see circulation in the overflow tank. If the hose is hard to squeeze then the thermostat is not opening. I know this is late but hope it helps you later on.

    I'm looking to purchase a fan with a 2 prong connector since the one I need to replace has only 2 prongs and not 3 but it seems like wherever I look they only have 3 prongs and some don't even say if they have 2 or 3. Is there a specific part number I need to look for? This is ridiculously complicated.

    Hi thank you for the video. I have the same car and was wondering if you could more videos on it. Maybe the fuel filter and the thermostat? I'm having an idle problem. When I come to a stop sign or red light, it hesitates or stalls when I accelerate. I've replaced spark plugs, coil pack, and ignition module. Thank you!!!

      +Jen Mahoney Looking over comments and missed yours somehow....but I actually sold this little car a few months ago. We racked up a bunch of miles on it and it was time to go. But it sounds like you may have a sensor issue. Make sure your fan is working too. Let me know if your still having issues and maybe I can help.

    Hi
    You make great videos with a clear & stable image with no loud music like too many.
    My daughters 2006 ION Sedan blower motor was not running but wiggling the wires that connect to it makes it go again.
    Is there a way to pull out the motor? or a way to get to the connector and fix it somehow?
    thank's

    • @HandsOnApproachChannel
      @HandsOnApproachChannel  9 лет назад

      +R “ray060” Lap I would unplug the connector and check the terminals. They're most likely corroded or have a loose connection. Could be a loose wire going into the plug as well. Sounds like you won't need to buy any parts!

    Would this video be helpful for someone with a 2004 Ion? I wasn't sure if anything was different or not. My radiator fan stopped working a while back, and any stop I come to a stop, the temperature gauge slowly rises and the A/C stops blowing cool air. Everything's fine once I start moving again though. Hoping to buy the part and then have a friend do it for me. Any advice would be great! Thanks.

    • @HandsOnApproachChannel
      @HandsOnApproachChannel  10 лет назад

      it should be the same. sorry for the delay, RUclips doesnt notify you about comments anymore for some reason. But as long as your getting power to the plug, it will be the fan thats bad.

  • @homesickcinci
    @homesickcinci 9 лет назад

    I have a request. 2003 Saturn 2.2 acts like it has a fuel or firing problem. if you do not turn the key long enough it won't start. we are talking seconds, but it matters. when I turn the key on a good car it takes about a second or two less. if the car does not start because you didn't let the engine crank long enough and you try again right away it has trouble as well. just overall cranking to long in my opinion. also very slight hesitation idleing sometimes at take off. high rpms are fine. no tune up done yet. where do you suggest I start? care has been babied but not maintained well.

    • @luvmomma5193
      @luvmomma5193 6 лет назад

      ccampton hi....you should go online and check the recall information because that year of car has a recall on the ignition cylinder and the Saturn dealership will replace it and repair it for free that would be a reason why your car is doing that

    2:00 You hook your volt meter (multimeter?) to both blade contacts and you read 12VDC without the fan plugged into anything?

    • @HandsOnApproachChannel
      @HandsOnApproachChannel  5 лет назад +1

      Yes on the wire end of the plug you should have around 12 volts. Not the fan side.

    How do you remove the upper radiator support?

  • @CMO797
    @CMO797 8 лет назад

    If the fan is working, but the engine still overheats when idled/at a red light and the A/C blows warm, what else could be the problem? I have coolant filled and there are no leaks, so is the next most obvious thing to test and or replace the radiator? IF so, how does one run a do it yourself test on your radiator? Could the issue be a sensor or other electrical issue?

    • @HandsOnApproachChannel
      @HandsOnApproachChannel  8 лет назад +1

      Check your thermostat, thats what it sounds like. It could be sticking closed not allowing coolant to circulate. Either just replace it or remove it and check to see if it cures your problem. You can run it with it removed but put one in afterwards if you know thats the issue.

    • @PackardBelltoll
      @PackardBelltoll 7 лет назад +1

      possibly u got stuck thermostat .The way the car cools the engine is it builds pressure up . If the thermostat is stuck in the open position pressure wont build and the engine will overheat . Also you could have a leaking hose . You can get a pressure checker that u get a autozone and pump 15 ibs psi to find leak look for radiator fluid leaking .If you got bubbles in the overflow. You need to pressure check the radiator . This tool will help u spot the leak. Thermostats are rated for 180 and 220. Its possible you got the wrong thermostat . The saturn thermostat has to be the right one to operate properly . Meaning Id recommend getting the right thermostat open at the right temperature. The ects=ELECTRONIC COOLANT TEMP SENSOR senses temperture . pcm sends a constant 5volts to it positive to it . and another wire comes from the sensor that sends a signal back to pcm . The voltage will change as temperture changes .

    • @PackardBelltoll
      @PackardBelltoll 7 лет назад

      if u need help call me I have seen this issue before . I own a 1995 sl1 . ive worked with this system . before . First thing to do is this . Make sure fan is working this is how. Turn the ac on in the car this mean u turn the fan on and the ac switch on . radiator fan will turn on . If your fan turns on good. let it sit with it setup this way.

    • @PackardBelltoll
      @PackardBelltoll 7 лет назад

      if your ac blows warm u might not have enough ac refrigant in the ac lines to turn the ac on . But if it does come on radiator fan should work. If the radiator fan comes on when u run the ac make sure u have the ac switch and fan motor turns on inside the car blows air through your ac vents . Then your radiator fan will turn on . This works because the ac uses power of the engine to run the air conditioning . . Its done with relay. When your ac is on the relay will switch on the radiator fan .
